Steve, Ballane, had money on 3 - 1 and was giddy when the Jest scored. Less giddy when Durra robbed him.

Yes very strange being in the zone and letting out a loud NOOOOOOOOO when Dura scored.Still happy as had them head to head as well.Thats more money for next years challenge and the more wins the less money i have to save.

And last night (Monday) I turned on to watch TV3 News sports segment with Michelle Pickles, and waited in vain to hear of the Phoenix win.

All EPL teams that I would never watch featured prominently, as did car rallies, cricket, Taranaki vs tasman game, also an interview with the netball deputy coach on what she would like the girls to aim for next season, and the Air NZ jet leaving for the USA with the All Blacks on board.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Won't be long before the ol bandwagon gets rolling.

Playing well against the tards should do the trick

Someone said that the news was on the sunday which is weird because it would have been during the game.

Reguardles they had a peice mid week on the buildup but nothing on the results, I noticed that to and thought it was crazy.

I thought the Banner at the kickoff, delivered a good honest message. It was commented on the radio too. That Leach Veitch  was stirring it up just after lunch on the radio about our poor crowds and how he wants a "New Zealand Phoenix", not a "Wellington Phoenix" and that we should play half our games in Auckland because they get better crowds up there.

Then he interviewed Piney and Chotey and as Jason pointed out, they get a decent crowd for the novelty factor and a rarity of a game.

I reckon it is like when the Warriors play a game down here. Novelty factor and a big crowd.

Veitch is an opinionated clown at best and I reckon he was stirring it up to actually get some Wellington fans to ring up and have a go, but no one could be fucked which in a way was a good thing. It left just his Auckland listeners to keep him company.

Veitch? Does anyone listen to him?

We shouldn't have to, he should be in jail.

There's no way anyone in NZ gets 8 plus years for assault, let alone someone without prior convictions, let alone actually serving all that time.

I can't make people like Veitch but if you want a host who gives football a fair go then look no further than him.

Didn't realise it had been 8 years. But the man beat his girlfriend so that she was in a wheel chair and off work for several months. He also should have been charged for fraud for forging character refference letters in his trial.

And I thought wifebeater was just a beer

Yeah, a little bit.

But I could see he was doing a job, there were times when his speed was invaluable in defence and helped out Durante an Sigmund.

Gourdie has addressed this before.  The timing isn't great for them because Sunday they don't have any footage and by Monday the result isn't really news.  Maybe the Phoenix need to schedule a Monday presser with Ernie and one of the players after Sunday games to give some reaction to the result

Some hilarious comments from Jets coach on fourfourtwo:

You’d probably think that coming to Wellington off the back of playing Melbourne City and Central Coast Mariners at home, it would be a game where you might be able to get some points, with all respect. But the Phoenix set themselves up in a very strong manner and we found it difficult to break them down.

http://www.fourfourtwo.com/au/news/phoenix-surpris...

Translation: we thought they would be shit. It's just the whole "with all respect" thing. It's a bit like when someone says "I'm not being critical/mean/disrespectful, but... (next words guaranteed to be critical/mean/disrespectful).

Mildly disrespectful if it was before the game. Fuckin hilarious after your team has just been schooled.

I completely disagree that by Monday night the Phoenix result is not news.

MOST of what is on the evening television news I have read or viewed online either earlier that day or very very often either one or even TWO days earlier.

A result, especially a significant result, of the only professional football team in the country that is 23 hours old is ABSOLUTELY f@#%ing news.

Super 12 teams that play overnight make the news the following evening.

Cricket teams that play over night make the news the following evening.

What is different about football, except that the NZ Media do like covering it, unless it is English Premiership football.

Yeah, especially as they had the build up to the game in the sports news.

I think James Dean is right, a press conference or at least invite the media to attend training and have a few sound bites with Ernie Burns and Roly or something like that.

The AB's get a double wammy, they are consistantly in both the regular news / headline news and the sports news. I wouldn't be surprised if 10-20% of the entire news coverage is All Blacks.

Ernie should have got Phoenix in the news by after the match calling a press conference to give his views on what he thought of the All Blacks getting on the plane to America.

Nix won't make headline/regular news unless

1. Lorde latches onto Tyler Boyd

2. Morgan goes bust

3. An arsonist blows up Cake Tin

4. Ernie signs a marquee from Sierra Leone/Guinea/that other place.

Frankly on a global scale, no one gives a fuck about the ABs in USA. It is sold out because Americans like to support American sports teams, otherwise no one in Chicargo gives a shit. NFL, NHL, NBA, they are what count, even the Chicargo Fire are more well known.

The media here are just claustrophobic about the ABs, none of them can take a crap without TV3's Hamish McKay having a wankfest over it. Sorry Hamish but not everyone is in to them as much as you.

I like sports news to be about a lot of sports not just Thugby, sadly there is still a misconception in the NZ media that if the ABs lose 4 million New Zealanders want to comit suicide. We dont and some of us really dont care.

The main new story despite everything else going on in the world. How friggen small minded are TV3?

I enjoy both sports - just sayin

probably so do the other 2+k that you want turning up to get decent crowds  .... and I'd guess another 2k or so of those that already do turn up

sure the ABs get over done, but so does the also ran English football team in England

and they are making some sort of history playing to a sell out US crowd

meh, it'll change as soon as the 'Nix are on a roll

With the attitude some of you have I really dont see how you can expect some casuals to turn up to games, especially if god forbid their first love is rugby or rugby league.

Living in a rugby league stronghold i have managed over the years to convince some to come to a game, and they have mostly thoroughly enjoyed themselves and many have made return visits.Tho not many have bothered in the last couple of seasons.

Some of the attitudes here are just as bad as as those of some of one eyed media.

Fair enough.  I had been a Hurricanes/Lions season ticket holder for about 4 seasons until I realised the only reason I was going was for the atmosphere and not the game itself.

After that it was the attitude of rugby heads towards football that made me hate their piece of sh*t game.  Not very mature of me I know, but I don't really care anymore.

The peripheral coverage of ABs on free-to-air tv is a reflection of Sky's control of broadcasting rights. Prime will have more access to ABs news, delayed of course. God forbid that a non-Sky channel could stump up chump change ($200,000)  and be a broadcaster who developed a 'minority' sport in NZ. It may be the biggest global game but that sort of behaviour, in NZ, is just not rugby!
