Fenton was out of position because he was forced to push up on Jamieson as no one else was marking him. Terrible defending by Sigmund. Sciola was going nowhere if Sigmund had just held his ground rather than pushing up.

You seem to be missing my point. Sure Sigmund shouldn't be defending in that part of the field, but he was forced to defend out there because Fenton was forced to push forward to mark Jamieson as no one had picked him up. Once Sigmund was pulled wide there was no need for him to press as high as he did. Sciola had his back to goal and would not have been able to flick the ball in behind if Sigmund had kept some distance between himself and Sciola. Given that Sigmund is also not noted for his speed, as you pointed out, that's even less reason for Sigmund to press as high as he did.
