I see it's official now that all the All Whites players  + Smeltz will be available to play in Christchurch:

Good news! Will boost ticket sales, whereas without them, would have had many fewer going....

Also, Smeltz especially needs a run out to gain match fitness and sharpness, me thinks...

Draw for me at best. Defensive system not sorted yet. First 30 was rough as. Was probably the first time they played together that back 4. Certainly started. Not expecting a thing except more improvement hopefully. Perth are a good side and always travel well.

I use to think that the Jets were the poorest side but have to say I think Perth are at the moment. The way we have knocked the ball around I would be very surprised if we did not get the 3 points.

A WIN FOR THE PHOENIX AGAINST PERTH THIS SATURDAY!!!

The reasons why:

- We've always got results in Christchurch

- Perth has to travel a long distance

- Our All Whites are playing

- We've had far tougher opposition in the first 4 rounds (Brisbane, Wanderers, Victory) than Perth had (Adelaide, Jets, Heart, Sydney FC)

- They've only scored twice in 270 minutes against average opposition (as mentioned above)

- We've scored more goals than them

- And finally... cuz I'll be in the stands to cheer them on!

Cool. I wonder how many of their fans will be over for this game? There was a fair few in Auckland last season and bloody nice people too.

I hop we do win, but given the travel and disrupted training schedule I'm wondering how much time Ernie and the lads have had to "tinker" with the mid field. Perth aren't going to dominate the midfield but Siggy and Dura are goung to have to lock down smeltz if we are to keep them scoreless.

Spoke to a mate in Perth who would love to come but the fares are prohibitive (close to a grand) - the cheaper ones require almost 24 hrs travel one way.  And we complain about bussing to Napier....

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

I think we play our ugliest football against Perth. I'm struggling to remember an encounter which was actually entertaining.

So there was 1

The semi-final where we got knocked out (in extra time from memory) a couple of years ago was a really good game despite the result.

Not to mention the semi-final in which we won on penalties - "Piney I need to lie down!" - Although have to confess I can't really remember the game up until the penalties!

We also beat them 4-0 at the Ring of Fire in 11/12, the game the Vukovic hit the crossbar.

Absolutely pissing down on that game in the 11/12 season. Velaphi had a howler of a match. Pretty sure even Vinny scored, a sweet volley for memory.

I remember the finals match, although mainly what I remember is that I had to go to a meeting just after McKain got sent off, and I went off muttering "well, we're boned", then checking my phone and finding out it had gone to penalties, texting my mate and asking her to tell me the result, switching off my phone, then switching it on after the meeting to see the message: omg we won!!!

He's got one against Victory at Etihad in a 1-1 draw. First or second season, I can't quite remember now.

Ha, didn't book when the specials were on. I've paid about $650 AUD return to this game. Only me of the crew who went to Auckland last year, but many of them will return next season where there is no world cup (beauty of being a club before national team supporter).

Last day of work today
