Worked all weekend and finally had a chance to watch this. Missed last week too as was overseas.

I think the secret is for me to not watch games live.

Good win.

The thing I like about Watson is he seems really determined to make his mark. He puts himself around and doesn't die wondering, he is a bit of a throwback player but he has made an impression and he has scored goals as well. I am still not sure he is the real deal, but he seems to improve on each showing

He's basically a kiwi Chris Wood.

I reckon Chris Wood is the kiwi Chris Wood

He does remind me of a B-Grade version

Are they both not the same age or thereabouts?

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Remember Smetz's career was a slow starter too. Watson could be too.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Watson is about a year and a half  younger (23).  Am I right in thinking he matched Wood's goalscoring record for the Napier U19 tournament?

The Matt Simon comparison is a fair one, although I personally think Watson has slight better ball control than him, especially when dribbling at pace.

 dribbling *snigger*

I like tautologies because I like them.

Think people on here are a bit harsh on Simon. Yeah he's a cod and a half but he's got a pretty decent goal scoring record in the A league and was a pretty key part of the Mariners in their hey day.

Have a look at the last game... he ran with the ball on a few occassions and looked to cut on the inside and take his player on the outside to shoot.

The Mariners just set a record for most games in a row without a clean sheet in the Aussie top flight(A League/NSL) - 35.

Speaking of stats, Roy's goal last night took him to 20 goals for the Phoenix to overtake Chris Greenacre on the all time scorers list. Only Shane Smeltz 21, Tim Brown 23, Jeremy Brockie 23 and Paul Ifill 33 have scored more.

Interesting list that, two of the top three are actually midfielders.

The way Roy is playing right now, it would not surprise me one bit if he were to replace Ifill at the seasons end.

I expect he'll grab a few for Fiji next year too.  Pity we cant do an All Blacks and make him an All White!

he'd have to score 18 goals in a season which in a non Fornoroli world would be a golden boot in the bag.

He actually didn't mind having a shot from outside the box, probably running extra laps this week because of it.

Im a Watson fan, he isn't the most skillful player or will ever be a top A-League striker but he provides a different option in our attack. When our attack isn't working, he is a great way to mix things up. Against Sydney I thought Ernie waited too long to put him on & switch to plan B, when he did come on Krishna had a couple good chances including one incorrectly ruled offside.
