We started poorly but settled well after our first goal and played some great stuff.

Burns got 3, but how many one on ones did he miss again tonight? He really needs to sort that part of his game out. Krishna showed him how to do it.

Is it just me, or was the ref unusually even-handed today?

In other words, trying to tell Ernie: "see, we do not favour your opposition at all". :-0

Krishna has his share of misses now too, but at least I am prepared to give him some learning time. Burns is a veteran and was recruited on his reputation. Krishna was recruited because he showed promise.

Did anyone else remark how erect Kiwihatter's santa hat was for the whole game?

I was at the game. Completely agree that we looked hesitant and prone to giving the ball away until the first goal. The rest was a celebration.

What happened with our first goal? The offside flag went up but the referee ignored it. We weren't sure if it was a goal at first.

It was a back pass from a City player

Buns certainly did slice the opportunity Roy presented, on a plate no less.

Hatters hat looked like a condom! The YF songs about That thing mascot were spot on. None of them were complimentary but they were honest. Who the fudge came up with that idea?

The YF were great today, was great to be back home. Might stick around, was a lot of fun. Congrats to Burns as our first ever Hattrick recipient.

Had to go out at half time but Roly is a stunner and Roy is clicking. Please link to the most hilarious angst and that this thread no doubt contained before 1st goal :)

Well done Burns, but it should have been Ifill.

Woot woot.....how good was that. We were decidedly nervous for the first 25 minutes and then after that tore them up.

I had never seen Krishna play at ASB level but lots of people on this Forum said he was crap....LOL

IMO Ernies game plan was just not working with Brock's....he's an OK player but just not suited to our game plan. Krishna looks like he might be the piece that makes the whole thing work on attack. THe guy has heaps of speed but is also a smart footballer....and has a good level of football skill. His running really destabilised the City defense.....and they left more space for Burns. I have a feeling that Krishna could become quite a prolific goalscorer at A-league level. His goal was all class.

A-Rod had a very nervous start but then got down to business....he just seems to do a few things but does them well.....5 metre passes to Riera, drifting wide to cover the flanks when the FB's bomb forward and breaking up attacks and winning ball in midfield.. Its an understated role but is a very important part of the team...he does seem to be a bit down on confidence though....he needs to cut out the simple errors

Ernie is not that demonstrative a guy but he had a huge grin when he left the pitch.....he knows his plan is taking shape nicely. This could be a very interesting season for the Nix .........and we have two very winable games coming up......

So the mascot is meant to be a black sheep?

As per Wikipedia

In the English language, black sheep is an idiom used to describe an odd or disreputable member of a group, especially within a family. The term stems from the genetic effect in sheep whereby a recessive gene occasionally manifests in the birth of a sheep with black rather than white coloring; these sheep stand out in the flock.

The term has typically been given negative implications, implying waywardness.[1] It derived from the atypical and unwanted presence of other black individuals in flocks of white sheep.

Just the sort of joke we needed....

The game today was very strange. I  can't remember another match where we played so badly, yet won so emphatically.
Jam Tards City played us of the park in the first half, but we went in two up. Then five minutes into the second half we're 4 up. Bizarre but great! Looking forward to more 'poor' performances

In my humble opinion Melb City were a good team, but after the first goal they said "oh, here we go again" and let another few in as a result.

Remember that Burns missed a sitter just before Roly put one in shortly later. Clearly something went broke in MC minds after the first goal, which was scored completely against the run of play. A tougher opposition would have immediately come back at us with vengeance.

Melbourne City had enough skillful people to hurt us after they were 0:1, but they fell apart instead.

A salutary lesson to us for our next game or later, i.e.when we are playing someone else than the Jets (which of course can be a banana skin if we're careless).

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

The whole thing was embarrassing. The entrance, the firework/smoke, the dancing not to mention what the bloody thing looks like.

So anyway, what's the good oil on a supposed Brockie move to Jaapie-land? I was looking forward to giving him a barracking at Eden Park.

We looked very shaky to start with which was concerning but i do believe the current line up can work well. Think once the first one went in we picked up.

I'd have subbed Burns off in the second half though, he was looking increasingly tired, but seemed to pick up again a little at the end.

Think we should keep Rodriguez in over Lia though, make the best use of the imports. Boyd in for Brockie on the Bench as well i reckon. (If he's not starting - Krishna playing well)
