The incident involving Ricki Herbert (Wellington Phoenix) in or around the 92nd minute of the Wellington Phoenix vs. Adelaide United match on Sunday afternoon. The MRP has the authority to consider the incident as the official was expelled from the match by the Referee. The MRP found that Ricki Herbert had committed an offence, namely "Use of offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures against a match official" - and has proposed a sanction of three (3) matches. The minimum for this offence under the Hyundai A-League Disciplinary Regulations is one (1) match. The Wellington team official has until 12.00pm (AEDT) tomorrow, 7 December, 2010, to accept the proposed sanction or refer the matter to a hearing by the FFA Disciplinary Committee.

The incident involving Travis Dodd (Adelaide United) in or around the 84th minute of Adelaide Uniteds match against Wellington Phoenix on Sunday afternoon. The MRP has the authority to consider the incident as the player was issued with a direct red card. The MRP firstly considered an Obvious Error (Red Card) Application by the player. The Obvious Error Application was upheld and, accordingly, the Red Card is expunged from the record of the player and he is not required to serve a sanction.

Three matches!! that seams way over the top to me.

Good they overturned Dodds red but what does that mean for Peter O'Leary? He clearly had a bad game - Including the Herbert call IMO. In saying that I don't know what Ricki said.

Fuck this stupid game

"O'Leary you f#*kin' twat, you don't know what you're doing!!"
...or words to that effect might have done it. Truth hurts, I guess.
 3 seems excessive.1 max surely.
Perhaps is signs of a sneaky backlash against Ricki for his media comments re refs needing to be held accountable for their appalling decisions, post Sydney game, the vindictive pricks.

Surely they will appeal it. O'Leary was off his head and the FFA know it.

I don't think any of us know what was said so impossible to comment on the appropriateness of the suspension.

I, for one, however am sick and tired of players berating the refs during the game and all but gang tackling him for free kick and penalty decisions - even when the fouls are blatant. It is an ugly side to the game that needs to be dealt to.

I don't think officials should have to put up with abuse from anyone, including coaches who should be setting behaviour standards.

I'm pissed off Herbert won't be on the sidelines for the next few games but I have no issue with him being suspended for abusing an official - if the sentence is considered unreasonable there is an appeal process.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Glad Dodds red has been expunged. If Ricki does get 3 weeks I hope they are consistent in applying a 3 match ban on abusing a ref (depending on what exactly was said obviously). He really must have said something nasty to get 3 weeks though.

(With my tin foil hat firmly on head)
As soon as the Nix leap back into the play off zone, the anti-Nix establishment look to put a spanner in the works by banning the coach for THREE Matches!! Its a conspiracy!

This. If Ricki has called the ref a f**king cheating c**t that f**ks kids (apologies, just trying to conceptualise) then he fully deserves 3 weeks. I doubt he did say this but it would have had to have been serious to get 3 weeks when the minimum is 1..

Grumpy old bastard alert

LOL at 3 weeks for pointing out to the ref that he missed a number of times Adelaide had advanced the ball from where they were meant to have it.

And what did K Musc**t get for his push on the Brisbane coaching staff? Or any of the Victory players who were going rather ballistic at the officials after the final whistle?

Sweet f**k all by the look of it.

Dodd's red was pretty clueless by the Ref, glad it was repealed, woulda of been sh*t if not. Am curious to see if we will find out the reasoning behind Ricki's band if it is for 3 matches.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Think its pretty rediculous when you consider what he was arguing about, and that greeny got a yellow for arguing about galekovich's kick...

Perhaps you should be pointing the finger at the 'kiwi', as the FFA are only backing up the ref.
The truth is that O'Leary has been and is one of the worst refs in the league.
I said to the missus as the teams walked out onto the pitch yesterday 'Oh no, this guy will ruin the game'
When Breeze is on, the same.

The issue here is that FFA is going all wrong about the problem. They bury their head in the sand when refs continue to make utter sh*te calls, then try to make examples of people to pretend like they are in control of it all.

Robbie Fowler's comments about getting international refs into the A-League is spot on. They may be part-time, but they need to see what a good level of refereeing is like, so they know where they need to get to

If 'Erbit should come into the stadium where I am in charge, applaud gentlemenly play, and sit calmly on the sideline, then fair enough. BUT, should 'ERBIT stand there, HANDS ON HIPS, and say annoyingly condesending things to MOI, then I should have to say to 'erbit > "NO! I do NOT appreciate your no longer dulcet tones, YOU ARE OFF YOU KIWI SCUM!!!"

Pathetic. Not apathetic.

Piney - anything about K.Muscat's punch?

Way over the top ban, I don't think Riki had long enough to say enough nasty things to deserve a 3 week ban. O'leary had a bit of a RESPECT ME! complex going toward the end there.
It all seems a bit unbalanced to me, what would a player have to do to earn a 3 match ban? Something fairly outrageous I imagine, but a coach can pick one up for some verbal the referee doesn't like.
Bollocks I say, and don't give me a 3 match ban for saying so!

Mediocrity runs rife through all levels of the A-league -why should the ref standards be any different?

Perspective folks.

i had been wondering about o'leary the whole game. he was just getting it wrong throughout, and seemed edgy or distracted. i guess it just went from bad to worse for him.  still, i dont know what he could possibly have seen in the travis dodd incident. and there was no response from the phoenix players suggesting he had done anything ugly.
still, i think he has been a pretty good a-league ref, and as with players, the consequences of getting decisions wrong can be significant.

I'm sure Ricki just said "excuse me Mr O'Leary, I fear the throw in should be taken from a point closer to the west".

I know it is easy to bag the ref, but I reckon that for every good game O'Leary has had, he has had three poor ones. This goes back a season or two.
He is for me juat a crap ref, and he is not alone.
There are too many of them that think that the game is for them. not the players/fans.

Ricki was showing his emotion and got ejected. Only 3 matches for him to reflect on his behaviour towards the ref? Our Phoenix will cope fine without Ricki on the sideline. Relax, guys.

I think we need to come up with some chants against Mr O'Leary and the MRP. 3 weeks is way over the top, one week seems fair. Heck, it was all over a where a throw in should be taken.

The A League should spend the money and make the refs full time [ or at least a fair few of them]. The best ones get the top games and they get dropped if they don't perform.
