I think the biggest problem there is that people think Kruse has the intelligence to considers 'best player' or 'substitutes', I get the impression that he is just epically dim and it's a miracle that he can stand and run let alone think of implications.

Fair enough.

The Roar did appear to target him though, I think.  He got hit more than any of the other players.  They did the same against Felipe in season one, kicking him off the park.  I think that tackle was the type that was definitely a red card and could easily have resulted in long-term injury.  Bertos was quite lucky, not to mention Kruse.

Yes, it was a deliberate ploy to restrict Leo at all costs. He was fouled constantly throughout the match, and even though the ref called them it did seem to throw him off his stride. So it's possible that Kruse was sticking to the instructions Farina had given, ie, stop him, legally or otherwise.

Personally I don't think so though. Looking at the replay I reckon it was intentional GBH. Beath didn't have quite enough balls to send him packing too.

To those who didn't see it and are commenting i'd repeat that was AT BEST reckless, dangerous and unnecessary

And while we can't know what was in the kids head when he was flying through the air at full pace studs up in a situation where bertos posed little immediate threat ...

if he did have any malicious intent in mind then he deserves AT LEAST a jolly good spanking

I think that if Kruse took his stupid rubberband off his head, he would release all that blood and stop playing like a twat. what a dick.

Kruse cannot be compared to Keane because Keane was a world class player.

amazing stuff. Keane played for a team I support, therefore even if I can witness his criminality it is acceptable because it is my team.

I hope  the Phoenix go clean style for the rest of the season. Because the outpouring of indignation here is fairly strong it would be no good to be in a Pot Kettle Black situation.

Either we want to remove all violent thuggery from the game or we don't. We can't have two standards that factor in hairstyles, diving and what club they play for.

People seem to forget there is history with Kruse and the Phoenix and assume this is going to happen if something similar happens again (I find it unlikely that it will as no one else in this league is that geuinely thick - apart from Tiatto).

This reaction has plenty of previous history to the indignation.

90% of tackles on a football field put fellow professionals at risk.  There are as many players getting injured like Fabregas did last season in a block tackle with Alonso than there are from tackles like those on Eduardo - probably more.

A player went off the field at Preston yesterday with what looks like a broken leg after he fouled another player in a pretty harmless looking way.  It was quite funny though when the ref held up the yellow card over him when he was being stretchered off with an oxygen tank.

Perhaps you watch a replay of the tackle.

Agree...  Frankie you have to see it first. Its a shocker... brain explosion, clear and simple.
Kruse probably lost it, with his young mate Oar being red-carded on debut, then the gaffer gets his marchings...yellows flying everywhere..

I would be surprised if Kruse gets a contract with the Brisbane Pussys now,I am so pleased now that he didn't sign for the Phoenix now . what a dirty little FU#$%R.
Yes towards the end of the game the Pussys were getting a great football lesson from the Men in Black and Yellow. GO THE NIX

What? Name one time when a Phoenix player made a ridiculous and malicious challenge like that?

The fact is that he lunged, Bertos tapped the ball away, and only THEN did Kruse lash out with his left leg - it was a blatant kick at Bertos. He might've still caught him late, but it was following through with the other leg that merited the red card.

From memory, it was worse than that - Kruse was just getting there and in the process of raising his right foot for a block when Bertos passed the ball. From my recollection, he dived in on Bertos about 12 minutes after Leo had passed the ball.

Absolute rubbish.

If someone on my team makes an idiotic tackle and gets sent off, then I will call them an idiot because their stupidity has handicapped the team for the remainder of the game!

If the player in question didn't get sent off, then I'd say he was lucky not to get sent off - simple as that.

Of course if it was a Hibs player nailing a Hearts player and they managed to escape with a booking I'd laugh about it at the time, but I wouldn't be above admitting it was a shocker later on!

I think he was already entering the lunge when Bertos still had it, however he only swung his left leg WELL after Bertos had played the ball away, therefore a deliberate attempt to injure.

I reckon the Ref was sick of dishing out cards and was worried about the hostile environment he was in so settled for a Yellow.

"There was no malice in that tackle. He was a little bit late but you should not send him off for that," Vidosic said.

"There were some heavier tackles so I think it was a little bit harsh."

There sure were heavier tackes, you're f'n spot on there!

If Farina thinks that tackle from Oar wasn't worth a yellow card then he needs to have a word with himself.

NO attempt to play the ball, looked more like some sort of karate kick, and was outrageously reckless 90 seconds after you've just been booked.

It's his own player he should be having a word with, not the referee.

It was actually Vidosic (Farina's assistant) calling it soft.  Perhaps someone needs to explain to him that the tackle didn't get him 'sent off', it got him booked. Maybe someone can then let Vidosic know what happens when you get two yellows in a game, so he won't make foolish comments.

I'd suggest Farina explain it to his assistant, but I'm not so sure he's the guy to do it.

Intent is irrelevant; if you are so irresponsible in your actions it doesn't matter what your intent was, the outcome is just the same and so you are just as much as a c**khead as if you did it with intent.

[QUOTE=Frankie Mac] I think all this talk that he set out to properly hurt Bertos and finish his season, and he targeted him becuase he is our best player and he knew we had used our 3 subs comes from people who have never really played the game.

I also doubt if all of those thoughts went through his head before doing what he did. Struggle to see how that equates to those people who said it having never really played the game. What is that exactly?

I don't think Kruse targeted  Bertos, but thats got to be a red card in my eyes. You could tell he was frustrated and I hope he gets whats coming to him so he can get his head in the right place

Kruse has been frustrated ever since his dream debut game. He hasn't been able to do it again and is now taking it out on more skilled players like Leo. That tackle was so late he could have used it in our next encounter with the Roar.

I agree...the ref was to scared to send another player off. that would've been a coach and another player. He would've then got a bashing from birsbane fans even though they were fair calls. So he played the safe option. Should be looked into though by FFA. at least give him a one match ban

I doubt Kruse intented to hurt Leo, but the fact is he was careless and late with his attempted tackle - which deserves a yellow, in addition the tackle was dangerous and could have caused serious injury - that deserved a red - I expect that due to the number of cards being issued at the time and the heated vocals from Farina effected the decision to deliver a yellow.

I said earlier that I hadn't seen this tackle, but if someone can get it on youtube or bebo or twitter or whatever you kids use, then I am keen to have a look.

The thing that annoys is that the phrase "that was a real leg breaker" gets used a lot in football, when they have not broken any legs or even injured the opposition player at all.  I have seen more broken legs (Cisse for Marseille, Larsen for Celtic) and long term injuries (Owen at WC) from accidents than I have from bad tackles.

There are a number of players here who can testify that I have put in some pretty bad challenges over the years, and yet I can honestly say I cannot ever remember trying to properly hurt anyone (although my memory is not so good).  I think all this talk that he set out to properly hurt Bertos and finish his season, and he targeted him becuase he is our best player and he knew we had used our 3 subs comes from people who have never really played the game.

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Had a good look at that clip... in a sober state this time.

Leo and he had some action happening before the tackle. Kruse was trying to mark him at the throw in, Leo did a nudge off him and Kruse slipped over.

The throw in then went to Leo, he took it forward, someone from his team yelled at Kruse to get stuck in, Leo passed the ball and Kruse carried on late with his run, charging in and deliberately hitting Leo's legs. Full of intention, no mistake.

Might have been rattled by the previous stuff, but that was over the top, totally nutterly vindictive. He knew he had done it wrong also, no protest or anything.

That was worth a red. Would have been given at another part of the match I think, but the ref  got gunshy at that stage. With all the drama that had proceeded it, I think he just wanted the match to end.

I have defended Kruses ability on here before, but wont give him any ups again. It was an immature prattish action and wouldnt ever want someone like that in my team.

What more to be said than F**k Off
