Come on Ross, do the honarable thing, hang up your boots and make
way for a better younger man.
You have had your 15 minutes of fame, with The Super
Phoenix.

Would it not be better to wait to see if one of them better younger
men will sign for us.The rumors are fine but i would prefer to see
some one put pen to paper.

And if he did hang up his boots I'd like to see him as an assistant
to Ricki.

There is only one Aloisi!
I say tackle him in the face.

Which is probably exactly what the club are working through with
Ross now.

The one thing we didn't see this year is Jezza alongside an
experienced central defender. He was solid, but not spectacular.
How would he have faired playing out of position as he did, with
someone alongside him to keep in his ear?
When I look as Aloisi and the players he played alongside of, I don't think that Brown or Johnson played better (and those are the players that play that defensive midfield role he plays) so unless there is a better man coming in, I can't see a reason to dump him just cause he is 34. Do we ditch Covs to at 36 because we got Brownlee/Costa on the bench??
I think we should keep him with the club in any capacity.

I thought Ross was superb in the game against Sydney just before he
got injured, the 1 - 1 game when he scored the goal. If he could
play like that every week I'd be well happy if he stays on for
another season.
Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I think Ross still, has a heap to offer on the field next season,
its got to be up to him ultimately. If he feels fit to play next
season then I say the Phoenix do what they can to accomodate him.
Queenslander 3x a year.

I argee with that but ross should get more support by everyone.

The only thing that concerns me here is his ongoing lower back
injury. Its the kind of injury that will put him out for 5 or 6
games at a time.
Maybe a pay as you play deal?
I would definitely like to see him stay at the club, but I'm unsure about what capacity that should be.

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

photo of the family and a great occasion for them to play against

great picture. id love to see him stay on with the club in some
capacity, to me hes a figure in a similar capacity to reuben wiki,
may not be playing at his best anymore but having him in the
squad is invaluable for the young guys and good for the club

Super picture, 2 great families. I think Ross will be with the
Phoenix next season, but not as a player.
My prediction, he will let his spot go to one of the great buys that Ricki and Terry do over the next 2 months, and will step into coaching, there is room for him there with Ricki and his assistant's extra committments

As Jag mentioned the only game in which I thought he was
outstanding was that Sydney game. Other than that I have to say I
was hoping for more from this very experienced player. Probably his
injury prevented him from giving his best.
However, a player's value to a club is measured by his
influence both on and off the field. Elsewhere I've suggested that
Coveny is a bit too old to seriously threaten opposition defences
these days, yet I have no doubt that both these players have
strengthened the Phoenix this year with their experience and
determination to lead by example. Both have showed great club
spirit at a time when it was really needed.

i like ross as a player his injury did play a big part of this
season,he brought experience and leadership to the club and i would
like to see him stay.he also takes the time to talk to fans in the
streets of wellington

If we can keep him on for another year there would have to be some
really good reason not to.
He'll be great cover, and if our midfield is getting out
muscled in a game, could be useful in his own right.

Great Bloke that he is, I'm with Skaman on this one. The trouble is
he needs regular games for fitness, which I don't think his body
can sustain. He then seems to be playing catch up with fitness. Did
he not look 5-10 kgs above his fighting weight whenever he played
in the latter part of the season?

i dont think aloisii should hang up his boots, i reckon if he is
fit enough for next season then he should play at least 1 more
season before retiring as i believe he can play another brilliant
season, he has been unlucky with injuries but 1 more season may be
the answer then hang up the boots.
hes been a fantastic ambassador for the phoenix.

Aloisi still has plenty to offer in kitty O'sheas at 4 am on a
Sunday morning. Hed be sorely missed there.

We did sign him at the tail end of his career. If injury is making
it hard for him to get fit, we can't expect to get anything like
the best of him. Same goes for any player.

Quite. And little sentiment exists in football team selection as
far as past achievements goes (although that may not have been true
for the English team over the past few years).

I personally would like to see Ross play another season if only to
get that cheating Korean from the Queersland Bore with a proper
elbow!!!

it's interesting to read on here, for example, how pleasant Ahmad Elrich is on a plane and what cool guys the players are and those statements are true
for me sentiment for a player comes down to what they do on the pitch, for instance I'd find it hard to farewell Mossy or Lochhead (among others)
so I guess there is room for sentiment in football, but for me it's more about memories of great performances rather than good conversations
and yet, in Ross's case I'd factor in his achievements as a club ambassador in the media and his passion for the
club and football
and for any player as you say HH, it should be about performance

Maybe the answer would be to keep him on in a back room
capacity. What he has achieved for us off the park is great,
but I agree with Tigers, it's on the park that counts.
Is a bad player? Of course not.
Could we sign someone less injury prone to play more games and
add more to the team? Probably.
Ross has been great in the first season and I'm sure he'd have
a lot to offer from a coaching and mentoring point of view.
Season two is about results and the right signing in Ross's boots
would improve our chances for success.
Winning teams aren't built on sentiment, it's nothing personal
and I'm sure Ross has been in the game long enough to
understand.

If we get rid og him (and I'm probably in the camp that he hasn't
quite been up to it, plus the injuries have been piling up) but we
definitely need a dominant centre midfielder to replace him. We
were a bit lightweight in the centre of the park and lack the
incisiveness to really pose an attacking threat. Brownie has the
potential but definitely didn't show it, for me that's also a
priority signing.
Off the field he's set a class foundation, maybe that role won't be as important in season's 2 & 3?

I agree, we need someone in the middle of the park that can
mix it up a bit and get stuck in, it's great that we play
attractive attacking football but every team needs a Roy Keane type
player.
