"But Wellington Phoenix skipper Ross Aloisi wasn't so fortunate.

He has been cited for violent conduct for allegedly elbowing Queensland defender Hyuk Su-Seo early in his side's 2-1 loss last week.

Aloisi's hearing will be held in Sydney on Friday afternoon."

Griffiths gets away with punching an official but we get a farking disciplinary hearing!

I know it's a different sport, but in rugby league, the warriors fullback Wade McKinnon got three weeks after he pushed the referee aside (because he ran into him) so he could make a tackle.
I'm sure if it was a kiwi team the A-League wouldnt be so understanding.

i agree its bad,if you strike an official it should be a red card,if the ref does not give the card it should be cited after game

More bullocks from the FFA, we shouldn't be playing this week due to world cup qualifiers anyway. In Europe teams don't play during WCQ's.

I say tackle him in the face.

Basically football are trying to move into a more accountable and 'cleaner' age/image.

Much like in League or Rugby, if the referee deals with incident on the park then that is viewed as the matter resolved. You have to allow the match officials ultimate control in the first instance in that he has to be able to react on what he sees, rightly or wrongly. In the cases of violent conduct which relates to incidents not of a footballing nature, then big brother has to be able to step in and deal with these otherwise you might get a situation where players and looking to clown the other fella on the head the minute the 3 officials aren't looking.

Its sucks but the Griffiths matter is closed and Aloisi is going to get 2 weeks even though it was not even with excessive force and that prick milked it.

But the officials obviously did not see what Griffiths did - weren't both watching the ongoing play. The linesman reacted to being touched, hence the yellow card, but the television cameras showed a fist being swung at the linesman.

Ross clearly elbowed the Roar player, so this could end in a ban. We can't really complain, even though Griffiths' clean getaway rankles in comparison

That's the biggest load of sh!te i've heard in a long time. Joel Griffiths hit a Match Official!!!

Let's tell all the juniors who play football that if they don't like a decesion that they can just punch a ref or a linesman and all will be OK!

And while we're at it why dont we just abolish referees and linesmen altogether and have the Fourth Official (who would be promoted to the First Official) not even attend the match and hand out cards and supensions on monday morning after reviewing the video evidence???

F!cking disgrace!

I wonder what FIFA would think about no punishment for a player who strikes a match official. In other sports that would result in a long ban (depending on how severe it could even be a life ban) , it shows that the FFA are more interested in protecting their players than officials. I guess it sets a prescedent, punch a ref get booked no problems

as stated above, rules is rules - if the ref catches and punishes the offence, then it is considered over and done with.
If the ref misses it, it can be dealt with later.
That way, the offence does not get double punishment.

I think the Aloisi incident was the turning point of the match - Aloisi knew he had gone too far and backed off his commitment to the game and it may have encouraged QLD to go in hard on Felipe in response.

A statement on the Uefa website said it had opened an investigation on the basis of article five, paragraph one of the disciplinary regulations, which state:

  • Member associations, clubs, as well as their players, officials and members, shall conduct themselves according to the principles of loyalty, integrity and sportsmanship.

===========================================================

This was taken from a statement in relation to the Dida incident in last weeks Champions League Match between Celtic and AC Milan...

Joel Griffiths = Yellow for hitting linesman
Ross Aloisi = Possible Suspension for elbowing an opponant
Dida = Probable large fine but no suspension (because UEFA go soft on AC Milan due to corruption in Italian Football!)

See any problems with this???

Sorry, I see there is a thread ("Team for Next Week") already discussing team selection for Newcastle - should have raised my comments there.

Qld were out to clog Felipe from the start, regardless of any mind reading about Aloisi's 'mood' after their player charged recklessly into Aloisi's elbow

How the ref only gave a ' YELLOW " is a joke. Love to know what he wrote on his report - The ref has acted on the linesmens advice, which could be " he only attempted to hit me " which is a yellow card "yeah right".
The ref in the Phoenix game let Felipe get two bucket loads of sh*t kick out of him before carding the fourth player in a pre-arrange attack to stop him playing. After watching  most of games this season ,clearly a few of these  " OFFICALS " are not up to the required level.

The most unfair thing about it is the fact that Ross can be suspended and he still keeps his excisting 3 Yellows next to his name!!!

Maybe the judiciary should use their common sense and give Ross a Yellow for the incident so that he doesn't have the threat of another suspension hanging over him!!!

Cheers Tigers. Just viewed.

Inexcusable that a) Griffiths stayed on the pitch and b) he isn't facing a lengthy ban from the game

Paolo di Canio got an 11-match ban for pushing Paul Alcock and Griffiths punches a linesman and gets a yellow.

Joke.

Hopefully the fans from all the other clubs (and us next season) will remind him about every time he goes near a linesman.

He's obviously got a bit of a problem, so maybe he'll lash out again and get what he deserves.

Hope so, or Hard News will have to increase his blood pressure medication.

"Paolo di Canio got an 11-match ban for pushing Paul Alcock and Griffiths punches a linesman and gets a yellow."

So by that rational Griffiths should get at least the same for punching Acock?

I don't follow you. Unless something else happened contrary to what was on that youtube clip, Griffiths hit/touched the AR, he called over the referee, a yellow card was issued. The AR certainly saw/felt it and hence why he called him over. The card issued would have been based on what the AR felt and then said to the referee. You can't question the referee, only what the AR told him.

We have discussed this at length today and this is a red card in any language you care to say it in.

I mean striking an official is a red card. Only a yellow was given. Therefore the official did not realise he had been struck. He must have merely thought Griffiths touched him. So the actual offence committed has not been penalised and the FFA could have done more.

If you are referring to my post then I'm not going to deny that. Thats just the reality of the situation

Now if that was me who he hit, I would have taken my shirt off, yelled out "I am now retired" and kicked the sh*t out of him.

Depend on what was written on the match report. Hence why the case is closed.

, there's a few on here who'd pay good money to see that

and the whole shirts off thing is so Phoenix!!

I take the point of view is that yeah, I'm a ref, I'm going to get sh*t and I don't mind one bit. In the end, I'm a regular jo like everyone else and its not me they hate, but the my shirt and what it means. Still doesn't mean you get the right to disrespect me by assaulting me. You wanna play that then its open season.

Looking at the FFA regulations shouldn't  they now charge Griffiths under their code of bringing the game into disrepute as it is a seperate matter from the laws of the game?
