I can't help but keep thinking this looks to be the Warriors all over again.
We let go of some very average players - Old etc etc YET were bringing players who have got a great reputation or atleast some quality, theres a salary cap involved in all of this, sure last year was our first year and we didnt have alot of time to prepare and buy players. And correct me if im wrong but wern't some of the players we released on 2 year salarys - that part of that pay off fee to them has to be included in this years salary.
How the heck are we affording all these players??? Would not surprise me if terry is offering them houses and cars etc etc on the side.
But then again i could be wrong?
your thoughts>?

Well I think we have seen an increase in quality yes but keep in mind we let go Aloisi who had a big chunk of our wage cap and felipe who probably wasn't on peanuts either.

Clubs have already been busted for it in the A-League. Queensland and Sydney.

Terry's a smart man he'll have it worked out that we wont breach the cap! you'll probably find that the buyouts of Old's contract wasn't high cos he wanted to go, and Felipe would have been given some sort of sweetner.
Queenslander 3x a year.

Well, there are couple of spots that don't count towards the salary cap - u23 marquee and the marquee slot. so if we are getting close and we don't intend to use the marquee spot to get an El**ch or jardel we could use them for our highest paid squad members in those categories and free up some of the salary cap, which may have happened already. and then there is the grey area of third party payments for services.
we may even be able to use the difference in exchange rate as bargaining tool to get players signed for a little bit cheaper than they would in oz?

I know that happens, but is that breaking the laws?
On a side note, as an Under-23 marquee we should get Chris James.

He may only be playing for Tampere, but the play in Europe and that gives him more exposure at this stage than playing in NZ.
That been said i would love for him to come.

Think about it lads...
For starters we only have 21 players, and I am lead to believe a lot of the two year releases and things were squeezed in to last seasons cap before this seasons came in to effect.
Houses and cars would come in the cap, and from talking to players it is DEFINITELY not the case.
Simon, try not to make outlansidh and unfounded accusations, we could get in trouble if someone took offense legally...not to mention the impact on the club if these sort of aspersions are made.
The FFA police the cap tightly, the Phoenix are the last side likely to risk getting busted knowing the joy some Australians would have at the club being in trouble.

what the heck i wasn't making any accusations or outlandish comments, ive simply been reading other clubs forums and wondering how the heck we are affording all these players under the salary cap.
i was never accusing anyone of going over it - i am not a mathutician (spelling), simply asking do players get paid off with cars, houses, wifes etc etc and does this come under salary cap??
no accusations intented.

As many issues as there are with the salary cap I still think that the a league is much better off with it than without it. Although it would seriously improve football manager if they got rid of it

Yeah, it's a fair enough question. Don't worry about it. I struggle to see accusations in it.

Melbourne V2? No-one asked any questions then...
There is also an extra 450k that isn't ofetn talked about in 3rd party sponsorship payments that can be made directly to players to prop up their fees. That's how some of the higher paid players get paid enough to keep them here.
Plus the cap is in Aussie $$, we pay NZD. Remember, the cost of living is pretty good in Wellington compared to say Sydney or Perth, where property is a nightmare. We can compete on that
