Umm, think you might mean mettle there, Boss.

Unless of course there's some sort of Judas Priest thing going on...

Good season. Jag2009-01-24 00:54:49

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

And a huge Huge HUGE thank you to Smeltz, Convey, Moss and all the others who are leaving us this season. You all helped contribute to this team most of us on this forum now refer to as our own.

Thank you.

No metal - they play like robots.

We were never good enough for top four.  Now we've signed an attacking midfielder who has scored one goal in 28 starts for the Reds.  Give me strength.

Thanks free english lessons on the website.  Excluding Smeltz I thought the team showed a lot of Mettle (courage, strength of character).  Sad to see Moss leaving

Attacking midfielders do not have to be mega goal scorers to be effective. Fred scoresbugger all goals.....would we take him. Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hernandez in Melbourne does not score much.......would we take him? he was their best player before being subbed.
A good creative mid can be the key to the whole side. The link between defense and attack...which is exactly what the Phoenix need.

Thats just A-league. He scored 4 in the ACL.

However I was hoping we'd sign Fred and this might show that chances of that are unlikely.

Call me a f**kwit if you like because I have an opinion that might be different to yours.  But as someone who has watched every game this season I am frustrated that a) we've relied too heavily on one player to score goals and b) as last night showed we have no one who can unlock a defence and really hurt another team when we have lots of possession.  I hope Diego proves his worth but we need creative midfielders who can weigh in with four or five a season.

And no, I won't stop supporting the club but neither will I stop giving my opinion whether you like it or not.

The problem was our final pass, not our finishing. We dominate possesion without ever looking like threatening the goal often. Diego will help us in this area significantly. He is a class player, you cannot judge a midfielder purely on their goalscoring abilities...but nice try

Allegedly

Quite true. There was no flair or creativity at all against Melbourne and no one capable of executing the killer pass.

Great season. 9 wins and I've tasted every single one of them. And they all tasted delicious. Thank you Phoenix for playing with all your heart every game (excluding a couple of games vs Perth and one vs Adelaide ahah)! It's been a rollercoaster but heck did I enjoy it!

Of course I would've liked to see us in the finals, but to be honest I am VERY happy we showed these dirty Oz's that we can be a real threat.
Last year I was stoked with all the new signings: these lads really made the difference in our stepping up this seaon. At the moment our transfer situation doesn't look good, so I hope the club will work in that direction - and I take Diego's signing as a good sign.

Off season? Well, study/work, play our regional footy, get laid once or twice every 3/4 months. I think that's a bit everbody's plan, innit? Am open to suggestions, however.

Good season. A few shockers along the way (6-1) but also some brillant games as well. We didn't really play well enough on a consistant basis to make the top 4. But we came close so credit to the team.
those missed chances against perth really cost us tho.

some frustarting games this season when we havent seemed to have an attacking option and chose to be defensive but otherwise a great comeback second half of the season....very disapointed last night I thought we we played as well as if not better than melbourne...so onward and upward and lok forward to reading about some great close season signings to improve on what has the makings of a decent squad. Good on yer phoenix
ps  may not be a universally popular choice but I think that we would be foolish to let dodd go he's had a solid season at CB... and nearly scored the odd goal...against us..lol

I'm sorry but I don't think that this season has been that inspiring.  Sure the team has ground out some results, which is great, but a lot of the time we played very poor football.

Negatives:  The general sloppiness of many of the players technical skills in games (bad passing, poor first touches).  The teams slow ball speed/movement.  Lack of cohesion/creativity in the middle and attacking 1/3rd.  A number of the squad aren't a-league qualitity.  The crowd numbers.

Positives:  The defence has been better.  We are a hard working team.  Some players have performed really well consistently --- which gives us a good base to build on.  There have been glimpses of what we are capable of as a team.

I'm sure what I'm saying won't be popular  but I have high standards for the nix.  I really really want to see team succeed and I don't think that seeing this season through rose tinted glasses will help make that happen. We need to raise our game.

Just being honest.

Don't see too many rose-tinted specs around. I think most people are saying much the same thing. Reasonably happy considering the obvious deficiencies in the squad but will be a lot less tolerant if we don't build on this and take it up several notches next season.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I've just posted this on the chants section but it seems appropriate to post it here aswell.  My salute to the Phoenix.  The Phoenix football club is the best thing thats happened in Wellington since I arrived here from Sunderland 30 odd years ago.
