TCA reckons Watto is gonna be released soon. Any Handy Prem teams need a striker?

If Watto is going to be released (so down one striker), and if Rossi goes, would the coach replace Watto with an international striker for the rest of the seasonand replace Rossi with a kiwi or Aussi centre back.

AK is a good player, but a striker who is better at one on ones with goal keeper etc might be critical for the rest of this season.

Its what id do-but then maybe thats why im not the manager!

Personally, I'd try and use the visa spot on a CB - I feel with Burns and Ljujic clicking in our front third, there wouldn't be much room for another face, nor a need for one.

However, Rossi's departure would leave a massive hole in the defense, especially with other defenders injured/potentially released soon

we need another contender for a starting CB, import or not they need to be challenging Rossi or Dura for a start.

Burns and Krishna already are in that category.  And AK9 has the headers covered, and Ljulic is the new Lia with excellent shots from long range. I would not worry too much about recruiting more strikers, especially if we also nurture young Singh.

Central defence is, as others said, more of a worry.  We might use Mullen as a CB at a pinch, and Fox is a shoo-in for Darije by now, if he's fit. But Lowry is injured and probably on the way out, anyway.  Abbas is out of favour and would be out of position as CB (unless playing as LB and swapping places with Doyle filling in to CB)

If rumours of Buijs leaving Syd FC are true (?) then I am sure Darije would be the first one to know, due to their previous contact in the Netherlands.

Would take that with a grain of salt though. The poster says its a rumour "from off the training pitch" and says that he's eyeing up a move back to CCM, but theres no way he would get regular game time there, plus he's said recently he and his family are really settled in Wellington and he'd like to stay. At the Mariners the two Dutchmen in midfield are class, and De Silva at attacking mid is one of the young stars of the league so an ageing and not-as-good Mikey would struggle to be a regular. In saying that though Ridenton is getting better every week and Paracki and Ljujic are guaranteed  starters, so is he any better off here?

He's said a few things which are reliable, but he's based in Australia so whatever rumors he hears aren't going to be direct.

Speculation alert:

If Mikey gets limited time with us, due to better players on the pitch, he might prefer it to limited time at another club and uprooting his family to move. The costs of moving country, alone, are enough to make up for any deficiency in pay here. Money would need to be better, to move.

If he were to move I would expect him to go to an Asian league where his skills, and extra money, would overcome any speed deficiency. But that would still require a consideration on the logistics of moving family; although the extra pay would help.

He didn't get his Aussie citizenship before leaving CCM, so that means very limited opportunities in Asia normally.

"Lugic the new Lia with excellent shots from long range"  Lugic has scored two already Lia scored what 4 in 10 years!

I suppose the crowd will be there in droves on Saturday to see their hero Lia bility.

Also, the clubs can pay reasonable moving fees outside of the cap.

With Weenix releasing a number of players, looks like no weenixers are about to be offered a pro contract. Singh and Smith aside, does that mean we are likely to keep Rogerson and McGarry to fulfill U21 quota, unless they see someone else out there? We only offer U21 spots to Kiwis right?

Do you think Mikey is now considered a starter when everyone is fit and available? If he's not [and I don't think he is anymore] and he sees that, he might want to move somewhere else.

We need a new keeper. Have we ever made a play at Stefan Marinovic, Jake Gleeson or Max Crocombe?

Contracted, contracted & contracted. We are not going to pay a transfer fee for a player, so its unlikely their teams will just let them walk for free.

Missed the chance to get Stefan Marinovic and he could be the starter at Vancouver for many years to come now.

Jake Gleeson is not on big money, and if he's second choice again this season then I think he could be lured back to New Zealand if the Phoenix throw some decent money at him.

Nik Tzanev and Michael Would also contracted but could realistic options if they fail to break into the first team at their respective clubs.

Loan would be great for Woud, similar to Glover going to CCM from Spurs

Shouldn't all the keeper speculation be about getting a more established man between the sticks? It's all well and good supporting young Kiwis, but we need someone with serious gametime behind them - not a third/fourth young 'could-be' kid.

disappointing though, I thought we would be making a few other signings and releasing more than just Watto. There's still time I guess, but it doesn't seem likely. Now that Watto is gone I'd like to see another striker option brought in. Whats our plan if AK gets injured/continues to play a bit shark?

Darje was asked that at the press conference, the Phoenix streamed it on their twitter feed. Pretty much seemed to be that they have no one lined up.
