They forget. I'm not going into the stadium when Omicron spreads through the community in a few weeks. And the Nix already got my money anyway.

I'd not in NZ.

But I'm triple vaccinated, had Covid (2020) and in pretty good health.

I'd definitely go wearing a mask, sitting with mate (who I'd see reguarly enough anyway) but otherwise practicing some sensible social distancing.

Omicron ain't suddenly going to disappear after the 'wave' has finished. So not sure risk is going to be much higher during the 'wave', than a few months later when the virus is still very much in the community.

But again they are my individual circumstances, which will be alot different for anyone say older, in poor health, unvaccinated or living with someone in that situation.

season pack arrived for me and junior today, cute little pack with a very heartfelt letter from Domey. 15 year badge, cool calendar with women and mens teams pics plus a nix facemask.
Happy to be contributing - even if it took an age to get here.

Imagine if we got a home playoff game. And were able to bring that to Wellington. It would be huge.
Long way to go though obviously.

Given the team is established in its routines think it would be a big call to change all that and bring a game back here. As much i would love it think they would be better to do what seems to be working for them.

Its just total wild speculation, But season end is still months away. If they could surely they would fly in for a few days, play, then fly out. Just like last season. All while still based in Aus.

Given the financial bleeding if they could somehow bring a finals game back to Welly and play in front of 20,000 plus, they would do it at the drop of a hat

The Phoenix have three fixtures still to be rescheduled in the 10 weeks between now and the end of April, which remains the deadline to complete the regular season.

But one of those weeks already contains a midweek fixture – on April 6 against the Roar – and three of them fall during the Oceania World Cup qualifying tournament, where Talay is set to lose several players to All Whites duty, even if only for part of it.

The start of that tournament falls outside the Fifa international window where players have to be released by their clubs, but the Phoenix are committed to supporting the All Whites as much as possible, and have asked that they not be given extra fixtures in the period from March 13-31.

The FFA tended to blunder on through international windows, and imo affected the integrity of the competition by so doing.
I would hope that now the clubs themselves make the decisions that this will be consigned to the rubbish bin.

Isn't the rule something like: if any team loses 3 players in an international window the game is delayed, except for the Phoenix who have to lose 5?

I feel the the official rule is whatever is going to be most detrimental to the Nix.

Uffie's building himself a side
 for the long term!

Would love to know what potential contracts are being looked at for Gael. He's got to be a top priority for us as the ship may have already sailed on signing Reno up beyond the end of the season.

Also great to have Payne with us for the long term too. Is he still his own agent?

Gael is here on a loan, but as everyone can hopefully attest, Phoenix is the champion of signing Mexican players as they were previously absent from the A-League radar.   So even if Gael does not sign with us next year, others might be lured based on Davila's and his experience over here.
Like some of us on this forum, I consider cultural & family barriers for Latin American players wanting to come to live and play Wellington as significant, much more so than for UK or Continental European players. But there will be those happy to commit for a year even if we end up as a springboard for them to move somewhere else afterwards.

I keep hearing stuff like this about Wellington not supplying this or that for overseas footballers. These guys are professionals who are happy to play wherever for a wage packet. They aren’t looking long term and know they will be returning home some time soon.

It also sucks with a season like this one where we can't launch massive cheers when he comes in, can't chant his name or anything.

No idea how much of an impact it has but surely if you are far from home, a bunch of fans showing their love for you have to make you feel less like a loan player for a job, and more a member of a loved team has to help.

Hopefully we are working on making the deals permanent for Wotton and Gael, although I don't know if he would require a fee?

I don't think we would pay a fee for Gael unless we knew it was a 3+ deal with the hopes of him getting picked up elsewhere down the track.

It would appear so, which is great news. The no self isolation change is pretty clear cut, re TT travel. But can vaccinated Australian tourists (and sportspeople) currently enter NZ?

New no-isolation rules only apply to Kiwi's.
But surely next step will be to add Aussies to that. But then not sure how that relates to A league foreign import players.
Need crowd restrictions gone as well to make it worth while.

"New no-isolation rules only apply to Kiwi's(sic).) Not true. Not just Kiwis.

Crowd restrictions will not go until omicron peak has passed - which might be before the end of March.
However - "Ardern said from 11.59pm, Wednesday, March 2, travellers entering from Australia will no longer need to self-isolate for seven days." So games here are possible but not until April probably.

Happy to be proven wrong here. This is what I read on Stuff.

What you need to know / Kia mōhio mai koe:
* Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has announced that from Wednesday at 11.59pm, vaccinated Kiwis travelling from Australia will no longer need to self-isolate for a week
* The border will fully reopen for Kiwis returning from anywhere from Friday.
* RAT tests will be required. Positive results will be treated the same as cases in the community, with isolation required. Whole genome sequencing will be done on recent overseas cases to check for new variants.
* Unvaccinated travellers will continue to need to spend time in MIQ.

* Further openings of the border could be on the way, but not until after Omicron peaks in NZ, Ardern says

So self isolation for vaccinated folks entering NZ is gone, period.

It’s just a case now as to whether date Australian citizens can enter NZ has been brought forward.

It may have been????

“Ardern says mid-March peak of Omicron is likely:

"Once we have come down the peak, we've seen our hospital system is on an even footing, that will be when we can consider things like further reopening of the border."

She says she's moved very quickly to allow Australian travellers to enter without self isolation.”

As someone else pointed out would be a pointless exercise bringing them home until crowd restrictions are loosened up. That may happen sometime April as a guess.

But big incentive for the squad now to try and crack top 4, and a home playoff game.

Even 1-3 late regular season home games must now be a chance, like May 2021. Out of interest those 2 games were played 21st May (WU at the ROF) and 29th May (Glory at Eden Park) last year, in front of those 20,000 plus crowds.

Don't know how accurate Soccerway A League draw is. But at this stage Nix are due to have 'home' games against CCM on 14th April & WSW on 22nd April. Final game against VUC away 28th April.

Will be an interesting decision for NZ Govt.

In Melbourne AFL season will kick off March 16th in front of uncapped crowds. And 70,000-90,000 at the MCG is pretty common for big derby games.
https://www.codesports.com.au/afl/the-2022-afl-season-will-have-100-per-cent-capacity-crowds-at-victorian-grounds/news-story/23620002ff3d2679845184870146affb

Appreciate they have already gone past their Omicron 'peak' whilst NZ won't hit theirs until late March apparently. But NZ is also in a better position re this Omicron wave with high 3rd dose/booster numbers.

I'd hope for an easing of crowd restrictions by April sometime, but I guess we will have to wait and see. Imagine the next few weeks, re hospitalisations, deaths etc will influence decision making.

You can bet, Super Rugby, Breakers, Warriors and Phoenix will all be chatting to Govt/Sport NZ.

they've been doing that for the men's test matches. Crowds were allowed but each section could only have 100 people in it.
It's still not going to make any difference for the nix.
