Actually we do have footballing tradition!

We once hosted the Kingz at Jade. They lost 4-2 to Wollongong, but I won a ball!

Based on my one visit to English Park, it's a similar size to Newtown Park. I would estimate 1500-ish capacity. Could be 2000. Nowhere near 12000 though.

What you have seen happen with the Nix is the same thing that has happened with the 7s - Wellingtonians have siezed an opportunity and made it their own.
Wellington is a geographically compact and clearly defined city - it has a distinct physical identity. It has the best stadium in the country both as a facility and its location close to the city centre, night life and transport links. It has a decent sized population that is passionate about sport, art and entertainment.
We have been blessed to have had Terry S with the vision, courage and financial where with all to get the Nix off the ground.
All the above has come together to make the Nix what it is. Wellington is the Nix and the Nix are Wellington.
We love having out of towners join us to shout, scream and yell for the Nix at the RoF.
But understand that what has made the Nix so special can't be moved.
We're not here to spread the love we're here to win the A-league.
Here endeth the sermon so, FFS, stop bleating on about the Nix playing out of Wellington - save up, come down and join the party.

The Wellington Phoenix do not 'owe' anyone else in New Zealand any favours, there is no obligation to take the team to any other part of the country and, to be honest, I can't see any reason why they'd want to.
If you want to watch the 'Nix, get your arse down/up to the ROF.

Selfish my arse. This been done to death already.
It's a Wellington team, not some lovey-dovey-lets-be-friends-with-everyone-and-share team. If you want to be part of the fun (and trust me, it's more fun than you can poke a stick at) take the time to wander down to Wellies and catch a game. It's an experience you'll want to repeat and, once you see a game at the RoF, you'll understand why people are so passionate about keeping the games there.
Home fixtures should be exactly that, at home, at the RoF.

I could! It would have to be a different treble, but to be fair I'd happily trade the Scottish cup final with the Jags for the Uefa cup the week after, is it a deal? In all seriousness though, I am over in Glasgow with work (only 3 days, bah!) on the the weekend of the semis (21st April) and have booked tickets for Hampden, so I will be gutted if I don't get a chance to see the Gers!

With that sorted I would like to see a couple of pre-season games elsewhere in the Wellington region - in cities that represent an opportunity to grow the travelling fan base e.g. New Plymouth or Palmerston North or Napier.

If we're talking about taking pre-season games to venues the size of Newtown Park, we need to distinguish between pre-season games and the A-League Pre-season Cup. I would suggest that grounds like Newtown could cope with the former, but not the latter.

I'm a passionate Phoenix supporter, and like 95% of posts on this thread I agree that all competitive home games should be played in the RoF.
Like most fans on this forum, I am ok with Pre-season games being played at other grounds, I especially like the comments earlier about these games being played in local area's that often come to support the Phoenix (Palmy etc)

The game was moved from both the Basin and Newtown Park before going to the Stadium. I think it was all to do with crowd size (though the Basin could have been due to the playing surface)
