Sofascore ratings of Nix players

Some player ratings from Sofascore. All are A league 2017/18 season, unless marked otherwise.

  • Nix players (current squad, last year's squad, or last rated game was for the Nix) in black.
  • Non-Nix players in red (highly regarded players as reference points, former Nix players, or Nix transfer speculation).
  • Nix imports in bold.

Method - "Human operators manually record data, to gather information on things such as possession, passes, duels, tackles, runs, interceptions, shots and others. Our idea was to derive a useful information from these stats that would in a self-explanatory way summarize player’s performance."

A couple of surprises in there for me.

Problem will still be not comparing apples with apples. Likely imports like Kopa who are low here might find it easier to have possession and complete passes in A-league cause it's an easier league.

I haven't checked, does it weight or take into consideration number of games played?

I'm an optimistic pessimist.
I'm positive things will go wrong.

Dead right, and no it doesn't. Rogerson was based on 128 minutes play, for example. Not perfect, but it does put Singh and Krishna near the top.

Would be interesting to compare ratings of players who've played in a top league (EPL, Serie A, La Liga, BL) and the A league.

That's why it is worrisome to see Kopczynski ranking rather low, unless it is based on Euro cup games with Legia only and not on all his Legia games including Ekstraklasa rounds.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

I read the graph as saying that Kop's figure comes from Champions League games, but who knows.

Check Kopa's rating, or anyone else's, here https://www.sofascore.com/player/michal-kopczynski...

Sofascore doesn't rate the Ekstraklasa, so Kopa only has seven rated games, 5 in the UEFA champion's league of 16/17 season (6.58), and two in the UEFA Europa league, same season (rating 6.95). Can't hang him on so little evidence.

re comparing leagues - IIRC Huysegems said he thought second tier Euro leagues, like Belgium's, were roughly comparable to the A league. Bonevacia rated the A league above the Eredivisie, and on a par with the English second tier (Championship).

He said Eredivisie (where Nix rejects go. Well one anyway.)

Adding some more points:

6.55 Rossi
6.85 Moss
6.54 Italiano
6.6 Velaphi
6.67 McGlinchey

Also black font now = Nix player (current squad, last year's squad or last rated game was for the Nix).

Red for other teams' players - highly regarded, former Nix or Nix transfer speculation.

Bold = Nix import.

Hah. Eredivisie has been on a slide for a while, but it's still a very generous assessment of A-league's quality.

Ajax has looked very impressive in Europe so far this season, they'd wipe the floor with anyone from around these parts.

Players usually say in terms of physicality, speed, and fitness but not overall.

Ifill said that it had players which were as good as top championship players, mixed with players who were vastly worse.  Hesky said a league teams were suicidal in playing out from the back.

Yes, looks like it. Based on ratings of players who played in an overseas league and the A league in consecutive years, it seems the Eredivisie and English Champ leagues might be higher level, and Norway 1 and La Liga 2 comparable. Which supports what Huysegems was saying; Bonevacia might've been a bit optimistic.
