Don't think it's as simple as sit back, relax and wait for Uffie to make up his mind. The Nix have a number of players off contract at the end of the season and it seems to be significantly more difficult to tie players down when the future of the coach is unknown. The last thing the club needs is yet another rebuild. As much as I like what he's done with the team in terms of coaching (particularly the team mentality), his continued non-commital is hurting the team's future.

this article could be seen as confirmation that talay is staying or a suggestion he is going...... but as Talay himself says he's focusing on the team finishing as high as possible and then will sort out his own job prospects.
https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/a-league/124877649/phoenix-coach-ufuk-talay-responds-to-latest-report-linking-him-to-victory-job
Maybe, we (the fans), should just relax a bit, he's not spoke to the Victory and is in talks with the Nix. Anyway Melbourne are gonna bring Popovich back for his third sting in the league.
I would certainly prefer he committed sooner rather than later, but he's allowed to negotiate and no doubt the club have given him a time frame to respond to their offer. I'd like to see some noise about player signings for next season as well but I'm willing to accept that while we remain in Aussie it might be difficult to make any guarantees to players etc.

First asked about at 2:22, as soon as the question begins look at Uffies face, he literally rolls his eyes and shakes his head. He's clearly sick of being linked with Victory.
Things are going well, he clearly wants to be here and is negotiating to get the best for him and the club.
and again when the question is fronted by if he watched the derby at 5:14. He knows the question is coming and just rolls his eyes again. He dismisses the suggestion that he is leaving as he has always.
No discussions with Melbourne, not saying he's not interested, or if he wants the job though. His focus is the Nix.

I think this comment from Talay, looks promising.
“Things can change very quickly. It can change in 24 hours but things are going well with Rob so I’ll let you know as soon as things are sorted.”

If VUC do dangle an offer, it appears will only be because Poppa turned them down. Whilst Nix plainly want Uffie to stay.

Morrison just needs to meet Talay's likely demands re player budget. Signing likes of Hooper & Hemed has shown some intent by Welnix, the last few years. Covid has just right royally fudgeed everything up a bit. I reckon Uffie will sign a 1-2 year deal, as long as Rob meets most of his requirements. Then it's case of a full season back at the ROF, next time out and seeing what can be achieved.

In Rob we trust.

If you watch the interview of Talay after the Glory game he was asked if he had seen the Melb derby which he answered " Yes because umm errrr yeah i seen it"
Why would he say "BECAUSE"?. As good as gone - thanks for coming.

really??? you read that into it?
he said yes, rolled his eyes cos he knew where the question was going.
he probably watches all the games because he's a manager of a team in the league. its called preparation.

Remember players may be signed or committed, but not announced.
The club may wish to announce the coach and then drip feed re-signings to get press.
And Taylor is keen right?
Thinking hopefully here

Does anyone here have any questions for Ufuk?

He's doing his pre-match press conference ahead of the Western United match tomorrow morning... no promises, but happy to consider what the denizens of the Yellow Fever forums have on their minds.

Has he changed his strategy to use the width down the left by playing Sutton over McGarry? He said Sutton has great touch and will get better in this regard, but it puzzles me when McGarry was bringing so much go forward there. I would expect all his players to have great touch.

It appears that Sutton is less offensive than McGarry but looking at passmaps that @rovingrob creates and shows average position I think for player touches, McGarry does not seem that much more offensive, while Fenton is generally the more attacking of the FBs.

Injuries update.
Are we likely to see Reno anytime soon? How did Stevie T pull up after the Perth game? and is Tomer likely to feature on Thursday?
Can we expect some rotation over the next 2 games to give some guys a rest.

Pretty much every other A League club has their coach locked in for next season don't they?  Failing some form implosion at whatever club between now & then.

I hear tell there are other professional competitions than the A-League on Earth, though that may be an ugly rumour.

Seriously, Talay will stay if he wants to, which will be a combination of his salary; his conditions of work; whether he wants to move back to Wellington; whether he thinks he can achieve his goals with WPFC; and who else is offering. My gut feeling is that he will probably go if he gets a decent offer, because (a) no Aussie wants to stay in NZ longer than they have to; (b) there's not much more he can accomplish with WPFC, given our club resources and situation.

Most of the answers to the questions I was able to ask (fairly dodgy internet line to Tasmania as it turned out) made the cut in here.

Re: academy players going over, I can't recall the detail as to why, but they decided against that a while back.

Re: Piscipo, as of that presser yesterday he was still on track to be involved next Saturday.

Only Aussie coaches I can think of who have managed to move from the A League to overseas are - Ange Pot, Muscat or Poppa. All coached in the A League (and Ange Pot the Socceroos) before scoring a gig overseas. All 3 had success as well - winning A League championship/premiership and/or ACL - before they headed off.

Talay doesn't have that quality of CV. If he leaves the Nix it will be to another A League club. And because of Covid fudgeing things up this season & last - he hasn't as yet at all had a fair crack at things with WPFC. Next season if he stays he will.

There isn’t much of a track record for Australian coaches doing well overseas, Postecoglou seems to be the exception rather than the rule. Muscat carried the Victory (look at them since he left) yet he lasted only several months in Belgium, Popovic took Wanderers to the ACL and Grand Final yet was sacked from Greek second tier in a couple months also. If Talay looked overseas (no indication at all that he is) I think he would struggle to find takers as his A League performances would hardly turn eyes in Europe and language barriers would limit his effectiveness in Asia.

Lets be smart here people, he's not gonna get a gig anywhere in the current environment, he knows this but he also know the club dont have a line of coaches to replace him if he chose to leave. He'll be asking for more coin and will probably get it. He aint going anywhere

Good Australian (or New Zealand) coaches would have to be extra good (better and cheaper than locals) to crack it in Europe, since our neck of woods is not exactly famous for a high level of football achievement.  Call it "glass ceiling" of sorts.  There is of course Asia, Oceania and Middle East, but something tells me it would be harder to persuade Mrs Talay to relocate their family to places where COVID is currently rampant, vaccinations or not.   Looks like Taylor made the right decision to come "home" at the right time.
I think Talay is the right coach for us at the moment, and that moment has been extended thanks to Covid.  He would need to have a good success with another A-League club before heading offshore, if this is what he wanted to do at all after say next year.

If a complete loser like Kalezić could get a gig in Indonesia, I'm sure Talay could command tasty coin in an East Asian league, depending on the city

pretty sure he could too, but I doubt he wants to take his family any where near Asia right now. They are settled in NZ, and with him in aus (I think). If, as he has said, he wants to build a legacy, then he needs to stay at a club linger than seasons.

Encouraging comments by Uffie. Can't help but feeling that he will be pivotal in any success that we may have over the last season or two, as players will be more likely to stay (Ball, Davila, some of the up and coming youngsters) if they know he's at the helm.
With a bit of targeted recruitment and a slower start to the campaign, this team could go places.

I think what happened last night shifts the odds further towards Talay going. If the players aren't good enough and he can't motivate them to be good enough, he might as well try again in a city with better weather

Players are actually good enough. Might need to work on conditioning if we have to play midweek games with an uneven squad (i.e. not enough depth to comfortably command a game against WU after playing three days before).
What happens last night shifts the odds to Talay signing on for another year. It is a bit hard to predict what happens after that both in A-League and in Covid world.

Lets be honest here.  Talay is not going anywhere. He's just angling for improved T&Cs, why not, you would too if you worked in an industry like that.

Like others I'm disappointed that we have dominated so many games since March 2020 yet come away with nothing but Covid has screwed things up for the Nix more then any other sports team on Earth I'd say.  The A League does not normally play midweek games, that's down to Covid and I am sure has affected in some way all teams in the comp.

Hopefully next season this Covid crap will all be over, we have a settled, injury free squad at home (NZ) and Uffie really can show us how good he is/is not without the virus stuffing things up.
