Why?

I'm sorry buit you and Frankie sit on the other side of the world and comment that it's paranoia and Marius who has never condemned a media organisation in his life lambasts people for it.

It's not the same as the first few years.  Sure it's sweetness and light since Terry got the archer but for the last 8 months there has been little to no sports coverage of the Phoenix but the club has been in the papers every second day, on more than a few occassions in articles that have little or nothing to do with Terry the club and Terry were dragged into it.

I try and keep out of this but comments suggesting the DomPost have been unconditional supporters of the club through the whole existance as suggested there are a joke.

I am not sure what side of the world we live on has any relevance - it is simple to get newspapers, etc so we see the same coverage that you do.

I would suggest that there has been very little sports coverage in the last 8 months as there has been very few sports stories - we have played no games, signed very few players, etc.  The big news has been Terry, and that is what they have reported about.  There might be a debate about the quality of that reporting, but again, that has been done to death.  Overall, I think that there coverage of the the Wellington Phoenix football team has been pretty good, and for them to get ridiculed for suggesting that is a bit over the top.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

Tards are still goalless (4 games now according to the commentators). Lets's aim for 5 and they leave wellington with no points.

Hurry up next week. Quite looking forward to hosting the Tards.

Apparently they are quite "disappointing".

Their last goal was in the 65th minute of their last round robin game last year v Adelaide.

That's nearly six and a half hours without an A-League goal.

This. So so much this.

I almost spat out my coffee when I read:

Dominion Post Marketing Manager Paul Williams says that the paper was keen to show its support in a very real way.

We have been right behind the Phoenix since day one and with the recent changes and what we believe is a new future for the Phoenix, we really wanted to get in behind the club and the fans at the beginning of this new season. We are really pleased we could work with the Phoenix to bring the children of Wellington this special offer.

As far as I can tell this is just them saying (again): we wanted Terry gone, and now that he has we'll support the club.

Cawks.

If ever we need a right back too, it's this one.  Marco could tear us a new one.

What are we going to do next week? Back 3? Griffiths in CD Siggy to RB? Tsatt/Smtih/Downey to RB? Can Downey even play(injured?)?
We don't even have a proper defensive mid left... Brown?
If Melbourne don't manage to score against us they really will be in trouble.

You'd imagine Downey will come in if fit.

Otherwise perhaps Lindsay can do a job there?

Or, considering Victree can't score to save their lives, maybe we just run with a back three and take the game to them!Smithy2011-10-24 08:21:17

Could Leo play right back? Ward move out to the right, and Brown into the mids

Could be a goer, Leo could do with a refreshed brief. Really need an idea of where Ricki reckons Tsat, Griffiths and Lindsay can play. I think if there's no one particularly well equipped to play fullback, Downey's pace could be the deciding factor if he's fit. Praying Ifill is ready to go in time, if so Bertos to the bench I think.

Downey                         Lochhead

The loss of Manny is huge for us....he's easily been our best player. I don't think Rickie has any confidence in Downey at right back. The way he defended in preseseaon games makes you think he would only get a gig there if we have only 11 fit players. Dumb recruitment IMO. All the aussie blogs said he couldn't defend to save himself and we went ahead and signed him. So here we are once again...year five and still we have have not signed a proper right back!

Glad to hear the Doom post are 100% behind the Nix.....I will watch my back now.

Perhaps we could ask them to get Sam Worthlesston to be a bit more positive in his articles....every week he has to put in a negative dig. Recently its been..." real disapointing for the club to only get 7000 at the first home game, they should have had 10,000" Well Sam, you don't seem to have noticed there were two other huge games on thet day.

He also said that after being unbeaten after the first two games that we " were overly flattered because in reality the Jets and the GC were also ran teams"  Well Sam, is that the same Jets who are now a clear third on the table.

The day the Doom post get a decent football writer like Piney or Freddie and fire that two bit hack Worthington, might be the day that I decide to start buying the paper again.

Hamish Bidwell seems to be a nice chap:

But they flogged the top-of-the-table Glory everywhere, except on the scoreboard. And shut a few folk up. Not least on the press benches, where there had been complaints that half the Phoenix team were such last-minute ring-ins that they didn't even feature in the league media guide. Those players that were listed weren't given much credit either.

So who is going to be at right back against victory?

They will probably play Kewell wide on the left and Rojas wide right and interchange during the match. We will need to be on top of our game defensively.
If ifill is fit then we have a good shot at winning this....provided we can defend. Victory have been shiite so far this season. 270 minutes without a goal....who would have thought!

IIRC Kewell has not started any of their games out wide so far. He might because they need to try something different but I wouldn't say probably. He is also coming accross to Wellington early ahead of their team, which makes changing things up a bit difficult for them. Ifill should only play if fit. The team should be backing themselves to win this regardless. I'm guessing Downey has to start at RB, there is no other realistic choice.rjmiller2011-10-25 18:47:27
