Myself and a few others are looking to make the trip down the road. Unsure if we'll come a day early for the Tauranga nightlife or if we'll just be doing a round trip on the Sunday at this stage.

Fairly sensible with Tauranga being the only major centre not hosting RWC matches (apart from Christchurch, for obvious reasons).
Looking at the state of the pitch they lucky they not hosting a RWC CUP....has looked crap most of the NPC season

Fortunately helped the boys get the win of Canterbury last night... off topic I know.

No you are right, I thought the grass last night especially looked pretty yuck. Wonder what the issue with it is.

I highly suggest Imbibe next to Bayfair. Closest pub to Baypark (it's walking distance), decent place, fantastic stonegrill. They've did a promotion for the All Whites match vs. the Socceroos and have links with local coalface footy so chances are they'll be keen to get behind it. http://www.imbibebar.co.nz

Just Imbibe Bar?

sorry, I don't get what you mean?

The name of this thread when liverpoolfan1 started it was "Your Turn Tauranga".  I changed it to "Tauranga Pre Season".  The "(was Your Turn)" part of the name references the original name of the thread when it was started.

Standard forum practice when we rename threads, which we do sometimes for clarity, so that people realise it isn't a completely new thread about the same topic.

edit: this might be the most boring post ever on forum.

Fever Party bus to the game?

Probably not as it's a 7 hour trip each way.

More likely a designated Fever motel and pub combo.  Convoy up Saturday, warm up Saturday night, game Sunday night, drive back Monday.

Enthusiasts please put yourself forwards.

YES i'm hell keen for this

It's been a while since I've been to Baypark - most Steamers matches I've attended since moving to Wellington have been in Rotorua - but I remember the seats behind the goals being terrible. May be best to go for corner seats as with Westpac, such as sections 1G/1H or 1S. Best to get in touch with the stadium events staff and have something set aside and clearly marked. Last thing we want is a Honduras-esque debacle.

presume we just have to designate our own fever zone - any ideas from the locals?

New signing/All White? "The Phoenix will be bringing a full strength squad including a number of the current All Whites, Teri Brown, Ben Sigmund, Leo Bertos, Mark Paston and Te Puna local Tony Lochhead."

I am so very keen for this, haven't been to Tauranga in a very long time, lovely place from what I recall.Azevo2011-08-26 14:08:07

I see word coal and realise it is English term for material to assist in making electricity. I hate this common English word. I work here for other reason, I hate coal.

I once visit France, northern region, I see coal. I hate.

I must ask user, why does he consider himself best second? I try to understand name, once should be proud of themselves, to say "I'm best second" means to me "I have esteem low or I am not good enough.

I think you must improve problem, I recommend you furnish yourself with hat of comical nature, and place hat on cabeza and wear to match of significance. International match.

Hmm, I belatedly getting into this.

Not convinced about road tripping it as Petone Awards night on the Fri, so was thinking fly to and from Akl - but the Saturday flight either to late or v expensive.

- and no chance making it in Fever-mobile!!!

But fly to Roto-Vegas - much shorter drive and there's one flight at $117 (at 7.20pm). (Then prob fly home from Akl.)

But if there really are road-tripping options from Welly - please post or PM me, otherwise I might book the flights tomoz. (And any advice on flights welcome!)

Haven't read through the whole thread but are many going?  I'm car pooling from Palmy (after getting the bus up there) and then flying back to Wellington after the game.  Wasn't a cheap flight so don't recommend it.

I'm looking forward to the game, can't wait to see them in action.

I don't think there's been any suggestions other than Imbibe.

I'm happy with Imbibe (as I've booked my accommodation based on location of ground AND this bar!)

Unfortunately there's a clash on for the local rep players (Western Bay, Eastern Bay, Rotorua, Waikato etc etc). The Federation have a rep game day in Taupo on the 25th. They have decided to shorten it, to finish at 12.30 so people could try and get to the Nix game. It would be a mission though.
Changing the venue to Tauranga or changing the date would seem to be a better bet for all these kids to have the opportunity to watch pro football plus get in a decent game day.
We in EBOP have urged the Federation to do this.

Hey Nix fans, is anyone based in Tauranga/BoP and going to the game on Sunday? I'm writing a story for the Bay of Plenty Times on the game and trying to drum up local support.

If any locals are going (maybe a group of people?) it'd be good if I could have a chat with you. Or if you know of any local footy clubs with a supporters group organised?

Best contacts: sam.boyer@apn.co.nz or 027 2977 568.
Cheers, Sam.
