What we gonna do this weekend?
With our left and right back goneski it's gonna be interesting. Can we play a back four? Do we need to intro Lia, Elrich or Brownlie for the first time?

put felipe in as an attacking midfield and rock brownlie out to sub at half time for felipe if his injury doesn't heal as quickly as they hope

I thought he was gonna be out injured so thats why he isn't there other wise Brownlie would drop to the bench.

No George?
Lia a left back?

I thought Lia and Old should be the fullbacks and I couldn't see Old playing very well at left back. While Lia is the only other player to play in a fullback role that I can remember. George and Elrich was  a bit of a toss up but if Elrich is fit he gets the start.

Paper today reckons Felipe's a good chance to be available in some form.

Also, I wouldn't rule out Daniel at Left back, he's played there in Brazil which is more than I suspect Lia has done.

Daniels a bit wasted at left back though..

Indeed, but I am terrified of the O'Dor to right back experiment...

...personally I'd call Chris Jackson back and get him to kick that prick Joel Griffiths in to next week, then sub him off.

maybe play 5 at the back and use Daniel and Lia as wing backs with 3 central midfield players and 2 strikers.

I'd say Daniel as left back, because we can't afford to have a weakened defence. Putting a replacement left winger in is not as bad as putting a replacement left back in. Daniel can easily slip back and he'd be a good runner of the ball, like Lochead does. Right back will probably be given to Old, he'll suffer, but won't be too bad. If pushed, Ricki could always move O'Dor out right and put Cleberson in the centre with Dodd, but depends whether he wants to break that partnership. And even then there is Lia who could fill this spot. Brown should be replacable, seeing he hasn't started yet this year due to injury, so just Coveny's strike partner is the big question. I personally would like to see Brownlie get a start or even Costa! I don't think George is fit enough yet to start. shabba1212007-10-08 19:22:51

Think we'll start with two up front away ?  We haven't yet.

5 at the back, pack the midfield ?  Ferrante as a Right Wing back option as well ?

yeah i reckon changing the formation is less risky than into'ing two new backs who wont be in their primary position. Have three - either Old or Clebo with Daniel and Lia as wingbacks. Then can play Felipe in the hole if fit.

Felipe has performed well as a '3rd striker' option so far, and plays all over the park, but I'm still worried that Newcastle will just target him and injure him further.

-------------- Moss
--- Old - O'Dor - Dodd - Daniel
Ferrante - Aloisi - Johnson - Lia
------------- Felipe
------------ Brownlie

Spoonley
Cleberson
Coveny
George

If Elrich is fit he'd replace Lia, but Ferrante moves left ?  Covs and Brownlie interchangeable.

Costa would be the man to try left midfield, but we've seen no signs that Ricki will risk he or Draper yet.

Coveny will start, you can count on Ricki choosing him over the other strikers

Id say

-----------------Moss
--------O'Dor--Clebo---Dodd
Lia------Jono---Aloisi--------Daniel
----------------Felipe----------------
-------Webster------Covs----------

Bench:
Old
Ferrante
Elrich/Brownlie

not saying it will happen

my 2 cents...

--------------------moss------------------
---old----dodd---o'dor------Daniel
----Elrich-Aloisi--Johnson---Lia
--------George-------------------
-------------------Coveny----------

Subs:
Cleberson
Ferrante
Brownlie

in all likelihood, will be ferrante playing and elrich on the bench.. love to see George get a go at start in Felipe's position, providing Felipe is unfit, otherwise he'll be back to the bench again. o and i have on idea about what Lia does. thus he went to the spot i dont have a clue who will get

Thats about all the good Chris Jackson could do. Never was a fan of him.

I hope it'll be:

-----------------------------------------------Moss----------------------------------------------------------

--Old-----------------------------Dodd-------------------O'Dor------------------------------Daniel

---------------------Elrich------------------------Aloisi-----------------------Ferrante---------------------

---------------------------------George----------------------------Felipe----------------------------------

------------------------------------------------Coveny-----------------------------------------------------

Subs:Spoonley, Cleberson, Johnsen, Brownlie.

I am a big fan of Johnsen but i'm starting to warm to ferrante, i still think he has a high error rate but he gives us a lot of width and shifts play well and with Elrichs pace it'll be great. Daniel is a great passer of the football and at left back he will have us building up from the back with passes instead of hoofs. I think Paladini deserves a fair go, i really like the look of him (yes he didnt shine last week but who did?and wasnt given any chances).

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK OF GEORGE?

jury still out on George for me

Ferrante doesnt look like scoring - which i say rules him out of a forward midfield position

I'm liking that line-up a lot. I'd be scared that Daniel would lack strength at LB...and aerial presence.

Dont like George.

I would like to see Costa given a run off the bench. Young enthusiastic guys comming off the bench have done the business for teams in the past eg: Brocky and White and of course the Roar youngsters did the business against us last week.

A dog with a bone :)

Na mate i think Daniel will be nothing but impressive in the left back position. His defensive play is very strong i rekon. He will impress u!

Id like to see

-------------Moss-------------
---Old---Clebo---Dodd---O'Dor---
   Jono -----Aloisi-----Daniel
   ----Ferrante------Felipe----
             ---Coveny---

Subs
Elrich
Brownlie
Spoonley
Lia

Elrich to replace Felipe if not fit enough, George into subs. think we need Daniel up, he is a taker/maker of goals
Bit of a risk maybe with Clebo at the back but he has played there

Big call to say you dont like someone whos barely been given an opportunity.

If he starts, gets good chances and blows it, then it will be fair to judge him. ( i guess im judging him too tho)

I thought Costa looked far from a prodigy at the U17 WC. I think he will be a good player but is still a bit off this level right now. Only 17, needs time.

Sign Dave Mulligan, for next year. Sitting on the bench for Grimsby Town.

Clebo at Left back maybe ?

I'd be happier with that than the O'Dor experiment repeated on a side he's not familiar with.

Costa's touch and vision was quality at times, but he bottled it on the big stage.  He'd be a good bench option to give him time, but I think Ricki will only go there if we lose Felipe and/or one other, although it could depend on whether Elrich has made huge strides in a fortnight.

I also think we need to remember we are away from home with a depleted line-up, I would think we'll be pretty defensively minded (we have been all season when away from home).  The idea that we might leave out Johnson for another attacking player seems very unlikely to me.

I really dont buy this "being defensive minded" I've heard Rikki Herbert say something similiar. The team is awesome when they are attacking. And if you are defensive minded and concede, its hard to peg one back.

No O'Dor at full-back - any full-back. He cannot play there.

I'm not condoning it, but we're trying to guess what Ricki will chose, and if he's saying itthen I think we can assume he'll select it.

Yeah i get what you mean. Hope he learnt his lesson from Newcastle then with being defensive minded. Maybe the attacking players might get burnt out tho...and need a re-conditioning programme...because they work. Xcellent2007-10-08 21:52:31

Johnson
Ferrante
Felipe (possible)
Elrich
Lia
Brownlie
Coveny

Interesting that Killen got his first goal Sunday for Celtic in his first full start - has been a run on player towards the latter stages of games up till now.

Could history repeat with George??

I'm with Hn and wolfben on the O'dor is not a fullback issue, CCM memories are still too vivid!

not sure about Clebo at Lb -though I'd like to see him on the pitch again, i think he lacks the mobility and balance to be a fullback

Daniel would do ok, i reckon, and regarding the criticisms of him in the air, i think it's true that he's the only one in the side apart from Smeltz to have scored with his head this season, and whilst it was a looping header his jump was well timed

have Lia or Old got a left foot than they can use for more than just standing on?
