Hatter was asked on Saturday by the young princess in the zone, where the balloons were! Was most annoyed that he wouldn't be popping them anymore!

Just read the full thread... fantastic stuff, the memories, oh the memories.

My personal journey, I was a regular smack bang in the middle of the zone for seasons 1 and 2, so got to experience the zone at peak. Then the missus caught the bug but wasn't keen on the zone, so we'd go to every game together and sit just off the side of the zone for seasons 3 and 4, so we could get in on all the chants, but stay comfortably seated. Missus was a champ - she'd put a bladder of wine under her top and pretend she was pregnant when we walked in! We would top up out of that sucker for the whole game, good times.

Then seasons 5 and 6, missus wasn't so keen anymore, but another mate caught the bug, we preferred to go sit at opposite end in the sun and yarn, so would do that week in week out.

Moved up the coast and have only gone to one-two games per season since to be honest, but still lurking round here.

Bopman, over the moon to read your Brownlie post, I am exactly the same! Such a vivid memory of that bobbling and coming back off the post. It really did feel like we were sucking the goals in at the end there, it was magical. I was in mid-air celebrating when that came back off that post, I was convinced it was in, we were right in line with it in the fever zone, it was crazy. I use that game as my mental motivation when I'm watching one of my teams and they're losing. I'll often repeat to myself "Nix were down by 2 with 10 to go, and pretty much won it but for a bobble on the pitch, we can still do this!"

Also the first ever game at the stadium, that pre-season 3-0 win over Sydney, was a massive day. My first time being in a crowd chanting like that, it was so great. I remember thinking that the "same old aussies" and "were not auckland anymore" chants were so hilarious at the time. They got old quickly!

I actually wrote a piece about one of those two games, can't remember which, and sent it to greenie, he put it on the front page. Just about the whole match-day experience and how awesome it was. Can't remember the exact words, went searching online but couldn't find it, might be lost forever now.

Backbencher, fantastic memories, I would get absolutely mottled before kick-off every time, which has definitely affected my memories of the games to be fair...

I remember jumping up and down so crazily after a goal in season 1 that I rolled my ankle on the step in the aisle, and collapsed down a couple of stairs. People helping me up, boozed as, ankle swelled up black and blue, didn't give a crap, kept jumping and going crazy, shirts off etc etc. Woke up next day and my ankle was a right state, limped for weeks!

Still have this up at my desk at work, from first ever game at the stadium;

We reminisced about a few on Saturday but some of them have gone from my memory now.

  • The early years of the Yellow Fever NZ Freestyle Football Championships (credit to Feverish).  A couple of them had 4-500 people along to watch.
  • Twelve pubs and it's growth to the event it has become, including the annual 2ndBest vs El Grap Battleships challenge.
  • Smashing my face open on the seats midway through 12 pubs in 2011.

Also have fun memories of a pre-season tournament game one year, where we went to a penalty shoot-out at the stadium and won, against Melbourne Victory I think? Me and the missus, having consumed our bladder of wine, were right behind the goal going crazy, it was awesome.

The missus was a crack-up at the games actually. After Smeltz scored that worldy against Victory that time to put us 2-1 up, I jumped up and was going absolutely mental, she just sat there and goes "hmmm... I think that was a bit lucky, I don't think he meant to do that". I was like "what in the f*ck are you talking about???"

Then when we got home I chucked on the replay, she saw it on the tele, and still tried to claim some technicality in her stubbornness, saying that the touch to take it away from the defender was accidental, I still give her crap to this day about it. Every time Smeltz scores a goal anywhere, for anyone, I'm like "pfffft musta been an accident aye?" hahahahahaha

Still have fond memories of watching away games at the 4Kings prior to any renovations being done in our first season.  Was basically a concrete floor with a makeshift bar serving (I think) out of plastic cups.  That Sydney game where Felipe scored a cracker was probably the highlight.

Yes.  The Fever lounge.  Sticky floor.  Two taps. A complete fire trap and 150 to 200 in a room that should have held 50 but the energy when we scored.

That room was so unpleasantly warm but boy it was a fine place to be.

Roadtrip to Tauranga for preseason match at (New)Bay park would be my highlight.

Hardly anyone turned up.
Pissed down with rain.
Liz was asked to sit down, who then spun around and informed that person. "We stand to watch the football".
Some new signing busting his knee in the first few minutes.

Was one of my unfavourite games. Remember it well. Queueing up for ages until someone decided to open the gate. Was bloody wet, got cold, ended up having to take a week off work sick.

I was at that game as well. The only positive was that we were able to say we saw Pantelis play for the Phoenix. He was never seen again after that. We also bumped in to Chris Greenacre at the airport as he was flying home early alone. Had a great chat with him about his playing career.

I remember this awful game in the 09/10 season against the Fury. It was absolutely pissing down and bloody freezing, and obviously because it was NQF the football was pants. But halfway through the second half we started chanting "we've got the best summer in the league". Those spontaneous moments of self-depreciating humour are some of my favourite fever memories.

Has been a number of those moments over the years sadly just cant seem to recall as many as i want to. Do remember acouple of early ones that always used to bring up a laugh. When one of the opposition went down injured "your going home in a Qantas ambulance" was one. The other one remember and i recall one of the opposition players looking up at zone with a WTF look on his  face was "your just a bunch of convicts".

Not sure if im imaging this but i do seem to recall in that first couple of seasons watching games in the late afternoon sunshine.

One last one was just after Dadi had scored his bicycle kick it went quiet for a moment  and screamed out loud for all to hear was "he's my Dadi"  by a larger old white bloke  in the middle of the zone.

Its those moments of humor which for me have been sadly lacking in the zone in recent times.l
