Is anyone else getting sick of this? I wish the media would just f**k off. Its none of their business, and nobody cared before Terry S was 'famous' anyway

WHile I think we'd all like it to go away AJ, there are some genuine issues here.  It is a story with news value, although the level of attention paid to it is undoubtedly larger because of the personality involved.  If Bob Jones or Ian Cassels (other developers) were in financial trouble then this would be a business page story, not a front page one, but it will still be newsworthy.

I haver to say that I don't think Terry has run particularly good PR on this one (Sam you might be able to comment better).  Admitting that he has a cash squeeze brought on by the recession and his own creditors, state that he's in negotiations with the council and that he intends to pay everything that he owes and then subtly remind everyone that he has done plenty for wellington and football.

I think he has come across as desperate - selling his car was awfully timed and his constant bleating about giving back to Wellington through the Phoenix doesn't sit well.  That's a matter for him and the council in its negotiations but to many people - especially those who don't have an interest in football or the Phoenix they would argue "so what".

I think its the dompost that bought up anything phoenix related from what i could tell. Actual quotes from Terry have been minimal compared to statements and speculation that the dompost have been writing about.

I know, but not addressing an issue and letting it run and run can be just as bad.  You can't just pretend this will go away, plus you end up letting misinformation sit out there...

I live for DS' Kudos. It cut me to the bone when he told me on 4-4-2 (yes I actually posted there) that I "am behaving like a gentleman as usual" sarcastically. Words hurt man, words hurt.

Missed opportunity!

Apparently top investigative journalist and caped crusader Dave "Douche Bag" Burgess was out on the streets this week pretending to be a beggar for a story.

All I can say is I wish I'd known...

Did anyone see on TV3 Cambell Live when one of their reporters tried to interview Terry as he was going through security at the airport. It was the most disgusting piece of scumbag journalism that I have seen. Terry managed to keep his cool(only just)...he declined to be interviewed but the guy ran along side of him and kept baiting him....saying stuff like "why hav'nt you paid your rates?" (when everyone knows he has)
If I had of been there I would have decked the C**T.

Its amazing how the reporters are never there to report on what Terry has done through the Phoenix, for the local community. the school and hospital visits, the money for charity, all the stuff for the kids etc etc.

The Phoenix has had a huge positive affect on my life and the lives of thousands of others. It has changed the landscape of football in NZ. We all owe a huge debt to Terry.....

Just a thought, but if Dave Burgess obtained $164.70 from the Wellington public by means of deception is he guilty of a crime? (despite the later donation to the City Mission). The fact is those people who helped him were duped so that he could get a story.

Someone in the media really should do a story on this!

Actually Terry had been asked to be on Campbell's show when the story first broke and he promised he would front up and give his side of allegations the day after the final Apprentice show aired as he didn't want to murky the waters for the show. Then that day he wdn't take their calls after they had patiently respected his promise. To me that kind of sums up his character and how he uses charm and false promises to slide out of things he doesnt want to do - like paying bills.

He has had a huge positive effect on many footy fan's lives and he has definitely changed the landscape of football in NZ. But that doesn't make him a man who keeps his word

lol I can't even remember what the thread was  I wrote that in so obviously you pay more attention to my postings than I do Cronus

I'm not anti Terry. More ambivalent and just stating above that he went back on his word to the Campbell Show so one can understand why they got frustrated and hassled him like they could have from the start.

Personally I'm sure he is a man of great charm and he has great taste in sports and I agree that many men in his position got so juggling many balls and not always being an angel. I just feel for little contractors who are themsleves struggling as have worked for companies before in Wgtn's Building industry where trickle down effect can bring them close to going bust through no fault of their own

Nothing sinister, just a LOL really!   I think I only remembered it because it was such an exciting time back in March and it was a nice story.

You're right it was exciting and I was quite chuffed he took the time to say thank you to a fan. & sorry for teasing lol... all you younger brains prob remember things better than I do and I'd have never found my own old post

I'm actually very glad Terry sorted the rates thing out because it did seem very suspicious this group of businessmen had put their hands up to take the NIX off his hands when he did all the hard work and supported them frm scratch

I disagree with you Stealth.   Just because you are asked to be on Campbell Live, there is no obligation to be. These shows say, we asked so and so to appear, and they declined, and make it sound like a crime. It isnt, it is just a "news show,"  and you go on it or not of your own free will.

The attempt to embarrass him and harass him into making some sort of statement was appalling I thought, the show lost all credibility for me there and then. I thought Terry handled it well. So what if he decides not to appear now, its fine with me. I doubt if John Campbell or any of his mates would like to be treated like that. Really he has nothing to answer to to them

Pleased that Terry has paid up, takes the pressure off. Im glad that he picked the right man for his team, and I'm also glad the bloody show is over, dont do it again Terry please.

Pretty sure I've read that ours are due in the coming days though, think it was held so it didn't clash with the hype around last night and get lost in the profile of that.

Incidentally the reason 'Mr Serepisos was unavailble for comment' was that he was in Melbourne for the game.  he didn't seem remotely stressed sitting in business class on the plane back, and nor did the handful of players and staff on the flight.

NZF reading to many of the media stories.

Are NZF here to discount the world cup pay out to the Phoenix to fund the grass roots program.

Or are they simply on the way through on cheap flights coming back from the game last night.

Or here for a free lunch?Hogster2010-05-25 17:28:43

There looked to be new posters in the Nix shop when we drove past (in the rain) tonight so I didn't get the chance to read them but expect them to be about season passes going on sale.

Saw poster thing at fourkings last night bout 2010/11 memberships, so I think, tad gone, but all goods.

Phoenix thing on Campbell live. Interesting stuff!

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Truth is why should Terry S put up with the way the Phoenix has been treated by Asia, Oz and NZ Football.  The Nix get to the playoffs, pack out the stadiums and Oz Footy take the gate, they can't play in the Asia Champs (yet) while NZ Footy admin are quite happy to ride on the back of the Phoenix wave, and currently are globetrotting on the Oceania/FIFA gravy train. Have a look at how many admin are milking the WCF perks right now. You wouldn't believe it, or the perks. They wouldn't be anywhere near the Finals if it wasn't for the Phoenix, but it's that old Auckland arrogant envy thing, after failing with their own franchises. You hear it in the Auckland Sky TV commentary at most home games.
Why should one individual have to fund the hard yard years at the Phoneix, and potentially be forced out, if self funding does get too tight. NZ Football is a strange outfit right now, but at some stage, has to return from South Africa, and look after the best thing that's happened in NZ Football for decades - the Phoenix.
