I will post an "Ode to Terry" here shortly- thankfully it won't be an obituary....

Terry, it's hard to know how to even thank you for all you've done. As a kid growing up in Wellington I always dreamed of seeing pro football there, but felt it would never come true. There seemed to only be slim hope of seeing us make the world cup again. The Nix revolutionised football in this country, and it's thanks to you. Sometimes I still can't believe that it all really happened. One of my lasting memories of you will be of the huge smile you had when the All Whites beat Bahrain, it was written on your face how much it meant to you. Just like it meant to kiwi football fans. No matter what anyone says, if the media keep trying to make drama out of all this, the amazing memories you've created for us all will live on. I'm looking forward to the day I can take my kids to Nix games and give them what I always hoped for as a kid. You are, and always will be, a hero of mine. Thank you for what you've done for football in this country!

A) saving NZ a place in the A league
B) Bringing the team to Wellington
C) showing that a crowd at a NZ sporting fixture can create atmosphere and noise
D) Getting the AW's to the world cup
E) Occasionally pushing the oval ball game out of the limelight
F) Bringing the Beckham machine to NZ (and making a profit!)
G)The Bahrain game being in Wellington - without you it'd have gone to Auckland in front of 15,000
H), Daniel, Ifill, Greeacre, Brown, Dadi, Hearfield, Paston, (etc) and of course George

You built a team and environment that appealed to people of all types and the stadium became another part of Wellington's many fun activities to do. I dragged along all kinds of people who would never normally follow sports/football and they all had a great time. You inspired the mighty Fever and the team you built and sustained became loved by many

I hope the circumstances of your exiting doesn't taint your own enthusiasm for the Phoenix and you continue to be a part of this new found football passion so many kiwis now have

Terry, you have been a legend.

Not only have you changed the scope of football in NZ, but you've brought it into so many households that wouldn't have seen it otherwise. You started something. Something BIG. There are kids who are going to grow up dreaming of being Phoenix players, and countless others going to games week after week.

Terry if i say everything i feel right now i may cry like a little girl. So i'll just say thanks for everything, absolute legend. You deserve a bronze statue of you errected outside the stadium.

   

I still remember the semi against Newcastle as the best sporting event I've ever been to, Terry made that happen, and that will live long in the memory, and on youtube where I watch the highlights about once a fortnight,

What he started will never be forgotten and hopefully what has happened puts no doubt at all about our future .It was also great to hear that Gareth was talking about recognizing that his contribution to that.
