whats the pre-season cup draw?

Good news is 11 home games (we had 10 last season) - we were due for 11 but you never know ...

It is going to be a long dry spell from our home game on 28 Sept to the next home game on 26 Oct.

fcuk 4 weeks away? that's going to be very tough to deal with, for us and the team,

Queenslander 3x a year.

Pretty sure the U-17 Women's World Cup will be on in that gap.  Hence the long period away.

Why do we have so many games on Sundays? Clashes with Lions games or something else?

Crowd wise Sunday games may not be a bad thing.

We played 4 home games on a Sunday last year with an average crowd of 11,600. Excluding the Adelaide game the night before the Galaxy game (distorts average - free tickets etc) we played 5 other games at home on a Friday or Saturday with an average crowd of 10,400.

Maybe it's easier for out of towners and families with younger kids to get to Sunday games ?

The pre-season cup. The thing before the real season. Had 2 games last year (and 1 in Christchurch).

That's here in NZ. Also played Central Coast and Melbourne over in Oz, so 5 pre-season games overall.

We might try (await details) to jack up a jaunt to Queensland for the 28th December.

If people wanted to pencil that date in.

Yeah, they have changed the pre-season cup to shorten it as the regular season starts earlier.  Last season you had 4 'league' matches then an additional play-off match... followed by the final.

This year it is a straight three games in the group and the group winners play a final.

Sunday 20th July  - Phoenix vs Central Coast - 16:00 Westpac
Sunday 27th july  - Clogs vs Phoenix - Sunshine Coast
Sunday 2nd August - Bling vs Phoenix - WIN (Wollongong)

Yeah I'm currently planning trips around the draw. November 7th is definitely on the cards for a post-exam blow out.

It was 3 group games last year as well, wasn't it? So there won't be any further playoffs to determine the other placings like in the previous seasons (that's how you had 5 pre-season games, all teams had additional 2 knock-out games)?
Not really sure if that's a good or a bad thing yet.

Sunday games are a royal pain in the arse for me. Means taking the Monday off work . Much prefer Friday or Saturday's. Point taken on the crowd thing though.

Personally, having  home games in consecutive weeks is a pain as well, from a domestic harmony point of view!

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

*rings the missus* "Hey babe, would you like to go to Brisbane for new years?"

I might (also/instead) do a Perth/Sydney double away trip (2/11 and 7/11) at the expense of some U17WWC matches.

20th july 1st game to see the phoenix in action again, so i reckon we will get a good crowd

I'm just irrationally happy to have a fixture list, to help prove that last year wasn't just a glorious hallucination

good on you yomcat for that countdown idea (though that might just make the waiting even harder)

like Jaq says sunday games not so good for folks like him and Oi Oi E (and the hundreds of other heroes who travel from wellies outer-suburbs, like Napier and Wanganui, for the home games)

but arrgghhh the Ring of Fire beckons

Promised myself and she who must be obeyed an away trip this season - definitely going to the Sydney game Nov 7.

Tossing up a CCM game as well. Anyone know how long / easy is it to get to Bluetongue Stadium from Sydney CBD ?

Simple train from the Centre of town.  Stops not far away from BlueTongue.  Retrun trains run quite late as well.

As I said earlier, we're contemplating a 'Tour of Duty' to Brisbane. on December 28th but it will take us a few weeks to get our ducks aligned.

Was considering Brisbane for New Years, this may have just confirmed it.

As long as I don't have to hang out with Feverish or Frankie Mac. I have been on trips to Aus with them and refuse to do it again...

Got to love it when the announcement on the Phoenix website calls Westpac Stadium "the Ring of Fire" a couple of times.  Counting down to July 20th .....

Love all the Sunday games.

It was great getting down to the backbencher before games last eyar on a sunday arvo, having a fews brews add a sing before heading off to the game, especially during the first few game before BB got too popular.

Not so sure about 5pm kickoffs in the middle of winter though, would have prefered 3 or 4 pm.

I'm very pleased with the draw too. I'm a big fan of Sunday games plus I get a very good time to trip away for Melbourne.

Can't wait for the season, come on Phoenix!

f**k these sunday games are bullsh*t. its like they treat the phoenix like the warriors... put them in the worst time slot so we can all tend to our hang overs at ring of fire instead of peaking. bloody bullsh*t if you ask me how do you expect parents to take their kids at 5 pm sunday to 8 or so sunday games. not happy.

Yeah, too many Sunday games.
It was nice to see some of the team out on the town Fri/Sat nights after thrashing the Glory last year.

Not so likely now ...

Up for some away trips though.
Still to get to Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, Gosford
(OK, probably not all this season - but definitely Melbourne this time)
