f**k these sunday games are bullsh*t. its like they treat the phoenix like the warriors... put them in the worst time slot so we can all tend to our hang overs at ring of fire instead of peaking. bloody bullsh*t if you ask me how do you expect parents to take their kids at 5 pm sunday to 8 or so sunday games. not happy.

I have to agree, why not 3pm k/offs?
they use the sydney game as an example of crowd attendances, but didn't they let kids in for free that day bumping up the crowd figures? it makes for a late sunday night getting home and stuff.
nice idea about the family areas and that, but stink that the phoenix actually asked for most of the games to be sundays, i don't think they really thought about all of the fans in that request

family zones are good but who wants to take thei family out 5pm on a sunday afternoon? mind bobbling stuff really. i guess its t suite the aussies so the get it at 3pm over their instead of 1pm. think bout it catch the train from paraparamu watch the game to 7pm you probably wouldn't behome with the kids till 9pm. what sort of genius mkes family day get home at 9pm. undertaker22008-05-03 09:14:58

Blimey, it didn't take long for the whingers to start up.  I travel from Paraparaumu, work in Wellington and WILL be taking my kids to the Sunday games - no probs.  It's what you do to follow your team.  I think it's a great idea - whole afternoon at the BB before kick off.  Bring it on.  Now if the BB just introduced a play area we'd be laughing!!!

I'm a whinger too. Sunday games suck for ppl like me. How can I drive seven hours back after that? Even getting a flight on a Sunday night is prob impossible.
Sorry for whinging, but I'd like to be able to get to more games.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

As a family with 6 year old child who have been saving up for months to buy a family season ticket this year, so many afternoon kickoffs is great news for us. We would still have gone to every game regardless but late kickoffs can be a killer the next day child-wise from a whiney whiney point of view!!
I'm sure 5 pm (rather than 3/4 pm) is about the relative time slot for Aussies watching TV, but it is still miles better than 7.30 for us. I suspect it's Sundays instead of Saturdays because of Lions games - they get priority even though their crowds will probably be less than half the size ours next season!!
I do feel sorry for those coming from very far away (eg Auckland) who will obviously be badly affected, but others should stop whingeing and get a life I reckon!
Can't wait for it all to start .....

At the Mariners we are happy with the draw and I agree with the 5 O'Clock Sunday games for families. On that survey thing that went around by the FFA I think almost every Mariner posted no Sunday games and maybe they listened.

Hers's our draw and everyone at the Mariners is over the moon and saying excellent Job FFA:

We have:

6 FRIDAYS: 2 Home + 4 Away

10 SATURDAYS: 7 Home + 3 Away     (Did very well there)

3 SUNDAYS: 1 Home + 2 Away    (for only 3 total / 1 home  EXCELLENT)

2 "HOLIDAYS": 1 Home + 1 Away

And in terms of Kick-off times:

4 Earlier than 6PM (1 home, 3 away)
3 @ 6PM (all home)
6 @ 7PM (5 home, 1 away)
8 @ 8PM (2 home, 6 away)

.... and no longer than 3 weeks straight without a home game (including FIFA breaks)

Let's face it no matter what day / time you choose it's not going to be everyone's first choice.

It's clear with the Sunday afternoon kick-offs, and the plans for a family area, the strategy is to build a solid family support base for the Nix. I think this is spot on - I can see Sunday afternoon at the RoF watching the Nix very quickly developing in to a family tradition.

Don't forget that half the Nix games will be played after daylight saving has started so even if you don't get home until 8.30 - 9.00pm it will still be light. I also think starting any earlier in the afternoon would have caused a problem with sun in your eyes for most of the game.

Just can't wait for ther season to start.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

See i'm not whinging,my angle was from the parents perspective of having to get your child up for school etc the next day if they've been out till 9pm the night before at the football.
obviously not a concern for you but maybe for others it is.

Real happy about the Sundays...get the whole family along, a few beers before the match, seven p.m finish, takaways for everyone after and then the anklebiters in bed by 9. Perfect way to spend a Sunday.

Totally agree that this will be very popular with most families. I am sure that Sunday evening at the ROF will become a tradition.

I personally didn't mind Friday night...but pre Xmas it did clash with office parties. What they have come up with is the best comprimise!!

Sunday's are a pain in the arse for me - clashes with lacrosse practice. Sometimes in that part of the year we bring practice earlier so hopefully something can be sorted out.

I loved the Sunday games last season....and am looking forward to them again this season!  Great to get to the Bencher around 2 or 3pm, have a feed, a few bevs and a good old sing song and ease into the match.  Still managed to get a nice glow on, sing my heart out in the Zone, return to the Bencher post match and be home around 10pm and into bed.

I actually enjoyed going to work on a Monday morning with no voice, a slightly fuzzy head and great stories of the match the night before to sing to my workmates.....

Friday night games always seemed too rushed to get to the Bencher and then the game straight after work.

Saturday night games I noticed attracted a much larger "dickhead" element of young guys who were already far too boozed and thought this was a good Saturday night out - they weren't that interested in the football at all and generally just wanted some trouble which usually ended up ruining a genuine supporters night or in making the Zone look bad!!

Glad there aren't too many Sat night games!!!!

Overall, I'm stoked with the draw, the quality of the home games (Victory, Jets, Roar & CCM all twice at home), the great home start to the season and the opportunity for a couple of EPIC away trips.....

PHOENIX CITY!!!!

Sunday games are good the only barstard  thing about them is trying to get home afterwards due to the crap public transport on a sunday nite.Looks like feverish needs to book a few mondays off.

When I used to travel Auckland to watch games I found the late Sunday afternoon games the best. No traffic on the roads on a Sunday night so always a fast trip home. Friday nights were the worst time as it was a day of work for travel.

No matter what time the games are they wont suit everyone. Saturday and Sunday afternoons dont suit people that play a summer sport but evenings are ok for many.

If you check the schedule
Sun 28th sept is school holidays,
Sunday 26th Oct is Labour weekend
Sunday 4th jan and Sunday 18th Jan are also school holidays.

I think that only leaves 4 of the Sunday games on school nights so its not all bad for those with kids.

perhaps some bright spark at Ridewell will earn their keep and arrange for a few extra buses on those nights

i expect you'd get a fairly big "who are ya?" if your man Jeeves picked you up from the centre circle in your chopper at the end of each match

talked to the lads in clubroom today general felling was  to sunday games. some people love them, some people dislike for the obvious reasons of not being able to curse a hangover at work on a monday mostly the young'ns!!! been thinking i like sunday games for these family reasons and engouraging young kids to get involved but 8 seems far to excessive.

Why all the Sunday games.
With the vibe rising I thougth Saturday games would be preferable, flow on to town after etc.

What competition is the Nix up against for Saturday games?

I can't see how it really matters what day the Nix are playing on, no matter what its going to inconvienience someone, and be excellent for others. Simple thing, if you have to prioritise then do it, if the Nix are as important as everyone claims then you'll make it to all the games you can.

another plus for Sundays is thousands of us heading into work/school whatever all utterly pumped about the game from the evening before with croaking voices and huge smiles - that's got to be a pretty unstoppable piece of marketing

(particularly with a whole bunch of home wins this season )

especially cos of the shirts off rule - plus the addition of mandatory helicopters won't help matters...
I like tautologies because I like them.
