Was looking forward to his return a couple weeks back, but since he got injured, we have remained unbeated and only let in two or three goals in 5 games.

Who would you drop for him, Siggy and Durante are on fire, the fullbacks are on song. Brown's scoring which leaves Lia, who has nothing wrong since gaining a starting place.

Who do you drop for our Marquee player??

i'd leave him on the bench for now, definitely.

We didnt change this side when the draws werent wins, and we shouldnt change it after a performance like that.

Excellent depth to have him on the bench and i'm sure he'll get a chance when someone gets a niggle

a bit harsh (actually, very stupid) to say we don't love him anymore.  He is still a phoenix player and we support (and love) him.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

why would u say we dont want him anymore?? he's injured. and the last game he played (against melbourne) he had a blinder. what a stupid thing to say. Dah!!

Would be great cover to have on the bench but as long as Durante and Siggy keep playing like this you can't drop them. Can see him leaving after this season.

Still very much love McKain, he'll come off the bench and have to earn his way back into the team, he'll know that after a performance like that you just can't change the team.

I still think he's great, and agree with those who say he should start on the bench.

Our bench has been looking a bit one-dimensional with three attackers on it in any case.

Yeah, put him on the bench. He is a class player, and will work his way back into the team i am sure. in place of who, well that i don't know.

All Aboard the Phoenix/ All Whites Bandwagon!!

It's changed to 5 yellows now, so one more and Tim will have a game off.

From next Sunday we have 3 games in seven days, that on the back of a pretty tough schedule just recently. Surely the chance to show we have some depth, McKain in for Siggy/Browny maybe, Caceres/Hearfield getting a run for Boom Boom who has been quiet lately and looks like he could do with a break.

If we have depth, which arguably we do, we should use it.

I'd like to see a bench of

Crowther
McKain
Caceres/Diego/Hearfield/Rojas
Barbarouses

Our backline is one of the best in the league now, we've only conceded more than 1 goal twice this season (Jets round 1 and Sydney round 4) and Paston is in great form (other than distribution). Siggy and Durante look like they can cope with the best attacks in the league, Manny and Lochhead are defending well AND  getting forward, then we have Lia and Brown, both of whom can cover the back 4 well and of course Brown is scoring really well. That's al without McKain playing, and he's one of the best CB/DMs in the HAL.
You know we belong together...

McKain is fit again?

He's a class player, and as others have mentioned, we could definitely use him for the next two weeks. A bumper fortnight for the Phoenix AWs, with three league games in a week, and then the return leg against Bahrain all in 13 days.

McKain could easily slot into a holding midfield role in place of Brown during this time, and work his way back into the 11. Always good to have 'hungry' players pushing the first team.

We shouldn't tinker with the combination that scored 6 yesterday, but easing him back to full fitness from the bench is absolutely fine with me. Could just drop Chen for him.

I'd have him in for Lia before Brown IMO, Timmy provides goals.

For me Timmy has been able to provide the goals because Lia has been doing most of the grunt work, its a balance they have to try and find.

Completely agree. Would have the same squad come next week for Sydney.

Then Jets game start McKain and give Siggy or Durante a break if they need it, probably Sigmund to not over work him so close to November haha. Also like the concept of Starting Hearfield for Bertos, but maybe actually Have Caceres on for him. Have a bench of Hearfield, Bertos and give costa a go. Maybe Marco if Bertos gets a full rest?

Then Perth game will give us a few more options and the best players of that lot will be chosen. No more time for Ferrante, Mulligan or Diego it seems haha.

Id say we dont travel McKain this weekend.

And I also think he could be alright cover at RB? Could be given a go there, however I was so impressed with Manny yesterday that I dont know.

Frankie,

I was using a little poetic liscence to make the thread stand out, nothing more, although i do notice the title has been changed so this wont make sense to anyon else.

Personally i think he's a brilliant ball winner and like many others over the past few weeks have been waiting for his return... and now after a 6 - 0 drubbing i'm not feeling quite as desperate / enthusiastic, and wouldn't know where to play other than to have him on the bench.

I'd bring him back through the bench. Though Ricki has a very nice headache to deal with over the week.

Yeh would be happy with Leo not starting this week. No complacency, plus both Caceres and Hearfield do have priors and pedigree...worth a chance for them to push for regular starting booths- if they can't I'm sure Boom Boom will be more than happy to sort it out from the bench...though I wouldn't mind hearfield up front either...Hearfield ifill Greenacre across the front...though this is match thready...

gotta get consistent...but dang it sucks we can't be considered for the champions league...

One more yellow for Tim and McKain will get a game anyway

Almost think I would like to Caceres get a start if (when) Timmy gets another yellow.

Would imbalance the team, I think. Caceres can't defend to save himself.

Not having Tim full stop would imbalance it. He's been getting forward brilliantly, something McKain doesn't and shouldn't anyway. Caceres would be getting forward but as you say can't defend much. Tim is playing a pretty good all round game at the moment

Given that McKain cannot pass the ball, I would be reluctant to see him return in the middle of the park alongside either Brown or Lia, who also are not great passers. He is a centre back - play him at centre back when an opportunity arises

Ricki said in the paper today he pulled up badly in training and is going for a scan it could be another couple of weeks.
