Throwing Stuff is an UTTER NO NO

Shame, TV has picked up on it, but I guess was inevitable.

I think the club will come down hard for the next match, I think beer may be banned from the seats as a first measure.

you know, I'd be quite happy if that happened. I know that would ruin the day for many nice people who like to have a few and enjoy the game, but I'd be so happy if all those idiots who get completely trashed at the game couldn't get enjoy themselves.
It's selfish, but in a way, why do we always have to suffer??

me too -- be glad when alcohol goes the way of cigarettes and is history at football  stadiums. It would be more pleasant. I fear the stadium probably makes too much money from it for this to ever happen in the near future though. aladdinkiwiland2007-10-23 19:37:45

I hope they never ban alcohol at games. What a sh*t idea.

Yes, but then you penalise 500 people who have no problem at all because 3 or 4 can't handle it.

That's not fair on the majority.

Perhaps the stadium need to be more pro-active on the state of people being allowed in already drunk or removing those who are obviously so if they spot them ?

Just an idea.

that's what I said in another post. Let's get rid of the scum and enjoy ourselves - with a few drinks, yes, but not with people who are totally out of it and cannot control their actions.

If the Stadium was REALLY clever - they might consider putting alcohol/beer in plastic cups - just like they do at any decent stadium around the world.

You can't really throw them like you can a bottle...

Not a bad idea to avoid people throwing stuff onto the pitch. But Goodenss, I got totally soaked in beer with everyone holding bottles...if they were holding cups I might have drowned...

Maybe if they moved to New Zealand breweries ?

I suspect if you banned alcohol sales at the stadium you would end up with a lot more people turning up absolutely smashed too.

Yeah, but anyone smashed should not be allowed inside in the first place.
As I said in the other thread,

I think we should ban beer from the Fever zone.
Have a steward at Aisle 21 and 22 entrance, and just ask anyone with a bottle of Tui to drink it and throw it in the bin before going in.

That will stop people throwing bottles if they have nothing to throw, and we won't get beer spilled on us either.

You could still drink beer at one of the seated areas, but you wouldn't get the atmosphere of the Fever Zone (nor the anonymity it affords bad behaviour)

It might seem harsh, but it's not as harsh a line as they take in England, and the crowd is just as exciting there.

I disagree completely. Beer should not be banned from anywhere. People just need to take a bit more responsibility for their actions, and the stewards need to be tougher on those that get out of line. There is no need to punish everybody.

Are the electronic turnstiles able to do a breath-alcohol test too?

The kind of idiots who were acting up on Saturday are never going to 'take responsibility for their actions'.

Better to remove their ammunition than let them carry on before any stewards can grab them.

Looks like Phoenix might have to fork out for more stewards, which is bad outcome ... still it's going to be bad whichever way you look at it.

Not a bad idea, then they could get arrested for being drunk and disorderly in a public place. Serve them right for getting plastered. After all, it's a football game they are meant to be watching.

I partly blame the drinking culture currently to the fore in New Zealand. Anyone under 25 (& a few over as well) seems to think, that to have a good time and be accepted, you have to be absolutely legless. If you don't believe me, go for a walk around Courteny Place on any Fri or Sat night. And frankly, the drinking establishments encourage it - after all, it's their income isn't it.

Moderation and maturity make for a pleasant time for everyone. A cold beer on a hot sunny day watching the Nix. Life couldn't be better.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

The stewards checking your bags for alcohol at the entrance can make sure nobody obviously agressive or off their face can get in.

It's all very well to criticise Arsenal, do you have any ideas apart from more stewards around the Fever Zone?
And how many more would be enough, maybe 1 for every 5 rows of seats?

hey we don't wanna be in jail mate!
especially since 98% of us are good people - who have a few at the most and who behave well before, during and after the game.

I think perhaps beer could not be banned, but there should be a bit mroe attention (from stewards especially) about disorderly behaviour.
If someone is totally out of it, then they should be removed as they are more likely to commit offences and put the reputation of the club (and of YF) in jeopardy.
that could be done!

The way I see it, there have been isolated incidents of drunken idiocy (very limited given the 12k or so average at home games), which came to a head with the throwing of bottles on Sunday. So far there has been no attempt whatsoever to punish these isolated incidents ie stewards kicking offenders out.

My solution? Be tough on offenders at the time.

Calling for a blanket ban on alcohol after a limited number of negative incidents, where the vast majority of people behave and can handle their drink is, quite frankly, one of the most ridiculous over-reactions I've seen.

why not make it a limit on the amount of  beer you can buy. say they give you a card before the game  take note of your seat and aisle etc, you need a card to get beer, everytime you get a beer they stamp it and check your  whoever from aisle 32 row e seat 103  if the ticket and seat #'s don't match no beer and if you get to 8 no more beer  maybe that's a way to limit drunken behaviour  the amount of beer you can buy at the game  it's just an idea

That doesn't cover how many they walk in having had, and some people are unmanageable on 4 in half an hour, let alone 8.

I just can't see it being logistically viable giddyup.

The better the behavioural standards are at the games the more likely we are to get better and bigger crowds, which in turn will help the Nix as a club, and help to promote football in NZ.  Banning alcohol doesn't mean banning the excitement, only if you need alcohol to bolster your machismo should it be of any concern.  The concern is to weigh alcohol being freely available versus the ability of prats who don't know their limitations to stuff it for everyone else. There are people in the footballling community who make it essential to prevent them from imbibing. We have a great club here, it will thrive without alcohol,or in spite of it.  For the record I'm not a teetotaller, a long long way from that position.  Put the price of the alcohol up til it hurts, and the extra charge to go towards the Nix

EXACTLY - there has been NO attempt yet to punish people behaving badly.

From everything I read, not seeing him and his halfwit mates should be counted as a result.

Anyway.  Well off topic.  We're discussing our problems here, not Tard persecution.  if we were discussing that I'd post this.

Good to see some ideas coming out but it logisticly wouldnt be possible to do this. The cues are long enough already.

I have noticed that the stalls are been manned by volenteers and not the normal staff. That is one thing that could be adresssed. There is clearly no monitoring of who is purchasing the beer and how pissed they may be. Its also easy for someone to get largered up before they come and ' sober up' as they walk in the gates only to let it all out again when they get inside. Friends can also buy a round for people who are already pissed and even if they didn't get served themselves they will just go to the next stall.
They will never ban alcohol from matches as there is just to much revenue in it for them.

The only option is more security who are trained to look for and deal with problem patrons. Trust me, this is not hard to do. They just need more numbers and provided they are trained properly there is no way it will detract from the fun that the rest of us will have.
When you go to a pub,  there is security on and people obey the rules or they are turfed. Its still fun to go to the pub. It just means more for the rest of us.

Hi footygal here I started a post by saying "throwing bottles not on" it certainly is a No No but I think this whole bottle thing has now been done to death. There are more threads about the problem than there were actually bottles thrown. some people are just repeating themselves  just to make a post.

I promise my Girlfriends and i will come to the next game if we change the subject and start getting positive.

I think the Mods need to step in now and put the lid on the bottle issue (pardon the pun), and lock the threads.

May the Sun shine on the Nix for the rest of the season.

Oh and how about some tighter shorts!

I've had to delete a pile of stuff in here tonight.

Please take a second to think before you post.

The media frenzy came from what has been posted here, you need to consider this when you post even if you think it is just humorous.  This place is high on the radar currently and thoughtless posting just perpetuates the problem.

Media will try and show the sport in a negative light and we should not give them the ammo to do so.  I hope this will not occur again and  people have got the message.

I think everyone has concluded that we need to watch our behaviour - as a courtesy to those around us  - and as the media spotlight is on us.
I think everyone has said just about EVERYTHING by now - so time we moved on and talked some football I feel.
Go the Nix.
