No More Idiots

If there is any sure way one person can go about ruining the Phoenix experience for the rest of us, it is through stupid acts like biffing bottles at players.

We realise this was only an isolated moment of stupidity and that the YF zone has largely behaved brilliantly - but it only takes one idiot to mess things up.

Yellow Fever has an absolutely fantastic spot by the players' entrance. But, that spot is a privilege and we can not afford to abuse it. Throwing stuff at all, but especially at players, will not be tolerated.

Whoever it was may have thought it was a giggle at the time, but if they'd broken someone's nose and Yellow Fever got punted around to Aisle 9 for the rest of the season, they would not have found themselves very popular.

If you see someone even thinking about biffing something, remind what a selfish and stupid endeavour it would be and that they will be universally loathed if they actually hit somebody.

It's great to see so many others already on the forum today giving a verbal spraying to the idiot responsible yesterday. That is what we need.

That is the official YF line.

What can one say? You've nailed it right on the head and we know the FFA are looking at everything Phoenix with a microscope. Let's not gift them an excuse. You see someone throwing anything except their voice, report it!

IDIOTS!! there are several of them.

The bottle that hit the CCM player came from above us in the fever zone, I didn't see who threw it, but the guys in front of us cheered him on!  I said how I felt about it!

It should be unacceptable for anything to be thrown from within the zone not just bottles.

I have noticed at the last 3 home games the things being thrown is on the increase. You might say its only been bottle tops or it was until yesterday. It should to be unacceptable that anything is thrown.

Im afraid i also cant believe that no one on these forums saw the clowns that did this yesterday,as they are not wanted anywhere near us if thats how they behave.

most of the beer throwing seemed to be going on below where our seats our we are in row p
but I was watching what was going on infront of me to see who threw the bottle from above!

The guy in front of me who cheered them on I could point him out again as I have seen him loads (doesn't normally sit near us) but who's to say he saw who threw it either!

Bugger reminding them.  Grab them by the throat and hand them to security.

No matter how provocative the behaviour of certain Mariners players was this is completely unacceptable and damages the Fever and the club.

Idiots.

I hope we're not going to see more of these incidents.

Across from me in Row L of the Fever Zone - just past aisle 22, a bloke threw heaps of beer in the air when the Nix scored.  The people behind grabbed his bottle and poured it over him and one of them planted him in the face.  OK, he was being a bit of an idiot (wasting beer for starters) but they totally overreacted.  We really don't need things turning ugly or it will scare people away from bringing kids top games

Interesting comment. So part of the Phoenix experience is looking forward to being drenched in other people's beer? Not making any comment one way or another, just putting it out there. Coming from a country where going to the football doesn't really involve showering people with piss, I just find it interesting.

I can understand people not rating it. But to punch someone in face is just plain wrong. If it upsets you that much ask them to stop don't thump them one.

But in all honestly it only happens when there is a goal. Its not like people are emptying there beer left right and centre. And who really cares If a little beers gets on you in the middle of a celebration.

It's already set a bad example. After the bottle came from YF Zone a 7-8-year-old girl down in front of us picked up an empty bottle and did the same.

Hated seeing that and never want to see it again.

What a dick wasting expensive beer and annoying people. Easy to say move out of the area but why not the one person stop spraying the beer around instead of several people moving?

Personally I dont care how much the beer cost, I'm not interested at all in being sprayed with it.

Seems to me that this is a critical point in the short history of Yellow Fever

What are the behaviour standards that are going to be accepted?

I think bottle throwing, and beer spraying definitely need to be outlawed by the grouphepatitis2007-10-22 22:28:27

I was right there screaming at all the Mariners Players as they left the pitch. I was looking at each of them in the eyes and tried my best to scream "you're a fat arse" to Sasho Petrovsky, but I think he didn't hear me.

My point is, I was there and I was using my VOICE, and I was telling them they're rubbish and they've been so f**king lucky to go home with 3 points. When I saw that bottle flying, I left.

What an act of cowardice.

In regards to beer being sprayed, I don't love it, but I'm not too concerned about it

yeah mate, I was right there.
For some reason which goes beyond my understanding, that dude ALWAYS has security going after him - at every single home game.
And he always gets taken away only to come back in the last 10 minutes of the game.

Bottle throwing yes

Beer spraying no. It happens I'm sure alot of people on this forum have gotten excited at one stage or another and jumped around with a beer in there hand.

 I for one have.
I didn't do it on purpose and apologized to the people around me. But if you start getting so up tight about people getting a bit over the top when a goal gets scored you risk policing the fun out of the fever zone

I think we i mean those of us who are here for the football in the YF zone have created what seems to have become one of the places to be to go and watch some good football (at times).

For that reason i feel its up to those of us who intend sticking this ride out to ensure the zone is what we want it to be.For me thats a fun place to watch the game ,have some laughs, great chanting all in a SAFE  enviroment without the need to have eyes in the back of your head to see whats coming your way.

To have that it seems to me its going to require some to take the lead and ensure what happened on sunday dosnt happen again.I for one have no wish at all to have my support for the Phoenix to be tarnished  by  this sort of rubbish. Its imperative for YFs credibility that everyone takes steps to ensure this is not repeated.

It is rather disconcerting that the first few people who asked me if i went yesterday, followed up that question with was i sitting where the bottles were thrown from.

Over reaction i think not if thats how outsiders see what has happened then much of the good work that has taken place so far will quickly mean nothing if these dicks are not weeded out.

ok, so we stray a bit on the language in the chants, but any sort of missile throwing is definitely forbidden.
I think the stewards to date have been bemused, but tolerant of the behaviour of this 'strange' football crowd.
Well, at least until yesterday's incidents.
So if it's not too late I would suggest if we don't self-police, then it's going to be done for us and maybe not to our liking.
There's 3 weeks to the next home game to get our act together - anybody got access to a photocopier where the rules of engagement can be copied, so copies can be handed out to people in the YF zone (ie those who do not visit this forum)?
I'm quite happy to volunteer to stand at the entrance to aisle 21 and hand out leaflets.

something like - 'enjoy the game - sing / chant / point / clap / get semi-naked..... whatever you like, but DO NOT throw anything, either in the air or onto the field'
GO THE NIX !!

or whatever wording is appropriate

Why don't you make some in house rules in the fever zone.

i.e

Rule 1 - No throwing of any objects onto the field or at players
Rule 2 - No fighting
Rule 3 - blah blah blah.

Breaking of these rules will result in your fellow fans pointing you out to security and having you removed from the game.

You could print these rules out and hand them out in the zone. Just so every understands what they are really doing.

Not everyone is going to read this forum.

It seems a matter of time before alcohol is banned from the Stadium, first for soccer, then for everything else.

Some might enjoy the fever zone , but apart from the bottle throwing, it's pretty clear from this board that some other immature behaviour is going down.  Now if you behave like British soccer hooligans, then pretty soon you will be treated like them, and you will be herded in and out by police with horses and dogs, caged in and not allowed to move around to visit refreshments etc. And kicked into the meatwagon as soon as you step out of line.

Fever supporters should not denigrate others who go to other parts of the ground. I go round the otherside where its best for my 3 year old daughter, but even if I was on my own I wouldnt feel the need to attend the fever zone.

I am an ex-player and manager and like to watch the game critically, but that doesnt mean I dont get as passionate as the rest of you. But I dont need to throw bottles of beer, beer on its own, swear, or insult the opposition as they walk off.

If you think this is what constitutes being in the fever zone, then prepare to be treated like silly little hooligans.

Some of us will continue to enjoy the football without behaving like t**sers

Surely the Fever Zone should be about solidarity, revelry, good humour, and cheering - with some jeering thrown in for good measure.

.. and the jeering stops when the game stops; CCM applauded YF when they came off the pitch (and I think it was well intended) - so why not return the compliment to them for providing an entertaining game of football?

...what? So petrovski is allowed to give us crap, and not expect any retalliation? Most of the mariners players clapped us, which was great, but some were well out of line...When you do that sort of thing in front of a mob of people...things are bound to get out of hand. In england, if a player gives it to the crowd, they get fined...why not the same in the a-league?

Also, throwing bottles was wrong, and i hope they are able to catch anyone doing it, and ban them...but some of their players partially caused it i believe.

The "who are ya!" that is chanted at the opposition is just a bit of banter...the mariners did initially help to escelate it into something that was really regrettable. Therefore, both the fans and players should be punished.

That is my opinion at least...

We had some real bad punters in the BB after the game, I'm afraid to say they have officially ruined it for everyone, as the tolerance levels of our staff, were stressed to breaking point. we are going to have to police the intoxication levels really strictly now. I wasn't at work after the game, but the pointless destruction of our property doesn't reflect well on yellow fever. all our staff know the regulars for the games so we know those responsible weren't among them, but we still had a lot more problems with this crowd than we have ever before.

Ok ok ok, some perspective please. Idiot behaviour is unacceptable. We all agree and are all angry as heck at whoever the clown was on Sunday. and it is important we stamp that kind of rubbish out right now. We condemn that and any other anti-social behaviour.

But on the whole the spirit of the YF zone has been great. I have watched enough football games and spent enough time in Britain to know that even making a flippant comparison to British football hooligans it utterly ridiculous. People are having a good time and creating a great atmosphere. that's great. if you dont want the noise you can sit elsewhere. likewise if you want to sit and focus on the game that's fine. but YF will continue to make noise. the great thing about the football is there is a different environment for everyone.

I agree. Anyone who has ever been to any Football League Ground in the UK will understand the frustrations of trying to get a beer down your neck pre match and then half time. The rule over there is that alcohol cannot be consumed anywhere where there is a view of the pitch whih results in hundreds of thousands of people crammed onto the concourse under the stands trying desparately to get served before the macth starts or resumes after Half Time!!!

When fools decide to abuse the system these are the harsh measures that follow.

Maybe the next Yellow Fever shirt should say "Stop a drunk twat throwing a bottle. Bloody Legend!

Lets not have this happen here!!!

Interesting to read what Uber said happened after the game at BB.

I thought there was a different atmosphere in the YF zone, where we stand there was a whole group of guys (and girls), who were just interested in drinking, texting, p*issing around with each other and shouting a bit of abuse when the YF chants started up etc. None of them were actually watching the game or interested in it.

I get the feeling YF zone is starting to turn into a sideshow and we were the stop off point on a 3 day drinking binge for some people.

Think that's the risk we're running. We are, quite rightly, saying the the YF zone is the place to be for atmosphere etc. Sadly, the downside of that is that this makes it more attractive for part-time, not really interested in football, f**wit pissheads to buy tickets in. I reckon, as others have said, self-policing the zone is the best way to deal with it, before someone else (like the cops or the FFA) decides to. Auckland Jag2007-10-23 09:12:39
