Ticket prices for the Galaxy match? (Galaxy talk)

So, if it's costing $2m NZ to get the Galaxy team here and the stadium seats 35,000 then the ticket price will be about $57 per seat to break even with a capacity crowd.

That's assuming the only income is from ticket sales.

Is that an unreasonable price or should these exhibition matches be compared to other one-off events that can charge $150+ per seat?

its not an unreasonable price, but any higher and it would be, i mean theres so many kids that would want to see Beckham play (and teenage girls!) , couldn't imagine parents would be wanting to fork out out $80 for a ticket (or even more) for their kids and themselves, but I reckon it will be closer around the $50 mark

Do not forget that whilst it is a one-off game the spin-off for this can be huge if the prices are set correctly. You will get the hardcore fans to see the Phoenix no matter the price. Regular football fans will also turn up but the "swing" spectators are the ones that could be the biggest dividends. Reasonably priced and the stadium will be full. It may not cover the $2m but if 60-75% of it can be recovered that would be great. The benefits are that a good percentage of the "swing" spectator may be first-time fans to the Phoenix and stadium experience. If they enjoy themselves they could possibly decide to watch the Phoenix club games. More revenue for the Phoenix in the long term will be beneficial to the club.

However if the Galaxy game is overpriced you might discourage those "swings" and they may turn out but will not return no matter how good an experience they have.

It will be very interest to see their pricing structure.

With this game being beamed all around the world surely a decent chunk of the $2M will be recovered from advertising sales? Advertisers will be all over this for sure.

I wonder how much the A-League sponsorships will affect who the Nix can get on board for advertising at what is a game outside the Hyundai A-League?

i heard on the TV when the game was announced $80 a ticket...that'd be a fair guesstimate

$80 a pop for adult tickets, but remember there are 2 seating prices at the ring of fire, so I'm assuming there will be a good balance, plus there will be kids tickets as well, priced differently.

The tickets for the Sydney FC game are selling in Australia for either $40, $60 or $85 (category C, B, and A respectively) - in Aussie dollars obviously.  Telstra Stadium has a capacity of 83,500 though.

Unlikely to be a cheap night at the footie.

And realistically, it shouldn't be a cheap night.  It has to be seen in context, a one of "event" rather than a football match.  So price comparisons should be made to other sporting "events" like the Lions matches or say the sevens...

I reckon that around $60 seems right...don't forget the revenue from the over-priced booze and crap food...and the money the council is putting in should bring the ticket prices down a bit...hopefully extra discount for season ticket holders.

You could go to Anfield on any match day and see a far better team, playing a more meaningful game for $80(27pounds). Lets not encourage over-inflated ticket prices...$25 to go see the A-league is about right and twice that seems reasonable to see old Golden-balls Vs. the Phoenix for 55 minutes.
"Re: So price comparisons should be made to other sporting "events" like the Lions matches or the sevens..." Don't be fooled, this is not Argentina Vs Brazil in the Copa America...World Class = $100+, but A-league Vs MLS...not quite there yet...

Comparing it to a game at anfield is spurious for several reasons.  Anfield is not a one off game, it is part of a league.  The Galaxy are having to go out of their way to play this match here, therefore there is a premium involved.  A more direct comparison is a concert or a show, a one off "event" judged more for its popularity than its sporting merit.  It is after all a friendly.

Season ticket holders won't get a discount I'm betting, but preferential ticket purchases.  I'm not encouraging expensive tickets, but we have to be realistic.  The event shouldn't run at a loss

You're right....I don't want it to run at a loss either, but I'm just wary of how easy it is for people to take advantage of everyone's enthusiasm for the beautiful game...Hopefully they got it right with the season-ticket pricing and they'll get it right with this....

This is football..it's not about the fancy prawn sandwiches...

A fair and money making price would be $80 for adults and $60 for children.

Supposedly there are 18000 enquiries about the game already from women alone.  We may see half the stadium filled with Becks fans... I wonder how much they're willing to pay to see him?

It is going to be so stupid If half the stadium is cheering for the galaxy

If they are typical rugby fans, they won't be cheering. They'll be confused. It will be great

I have to agree with James Dean i believe that  a one off fee would have to apply for this game, although i do not care to see David Beckham i do care to the Phoenix whip the Galaxy's Arse!!!! YEAH!!! Which would be worth the asking price alone.

Not sure about sponsorship deals for this. To NZ it's big, so we should get NZ sponsors to get behind it (maybe they could drop the price of the kids tickets if we got a decent size commitment from a sponsor)...  ("Yes we're milking it for all it's worth" but then we are the NZ dairy board, something like that would be good...)

To the US it's not such a big deal.
Unless we beat them.
Convincingly.

The "Wellingtonian" local paper says that tickets to the Sydney game vs LA were going for $30-80, and that similar prices were expected in Welly.  Course that doesn't narrow down our speculations any :P

To tell you the truth, i would of rather brung over a lower level premiership team for whatever we paid for the galaxy and that fruit beckham to come over.

At least then we might see some football.

nothing set yet
possibly be $80 silver , $100 gold.  Children maybe $50 - though it will tie in with the Adelaide game the night before (Galaxy likely to be Sat night now) - so includes freebie for that one.
Prob a slight discount on this for season ticketers (plus pref booking)

No way! I've got a wedding on Saturday the 1st and so booked flights to Auckland Saturday morning and back Sunday lunchtime so I could see both Phoenix games. I will probably skip the wedding if it comes down to it.

My parents have flights down on the 2nd as well.

The website still says 2 December though.

confirmed in the dompost this morning moved to sat. tickets between 80-100 with discount and preferential booking for season ticket holders.

The a-league game on friday should be huge if all the beckham fans come to it!

oops - cross-posted this elsewhere;

I noticed in the DomPost today they are talking about tickets being between $80 - $100 each.

With the right discount for season ticket holders I'm sure there could be  a huge increase in season ticket members -  the maths would be something like half the season played, so ticket prices something like;
Galaxy Game only - $75
existing season ticket holders - $60 (that's about 2,500 tickets of the possible 30,000)
Adelaide Utd + Galaxy game - $90 (same weekend)
New Season ticket + Galaxy game - $120

 - so, for about a $50 premium the walk-up crowd become season ticket holders for the remainder of the season, which would be good marketing?
