As it was a condition of entry to another country that was broken, I feel he will lose the right to enter that country. How long is up to Aussie immigration and courts. Could be 6 months or 2 years. It is not going to help that the virus they were worried about was actually among the group. Its not going to help that they bent a few rules not available to others that they could train as a group etc, and this is how he repays authorities. If they throw the book at him ie 1 yr or more he is finished as a nix player for a while. The nix aren't going to really make the decision on Tim. It is immigration Australia. interesting the police haven't charged him with anything. I feel he will be kicked out and told not to return for a certain amount of time
Tim Payne
Typically Ausi immigration are very tough in exclusions which typically starts at 3 years
You didn't usually have to do to much wrong to get that one
Bloody hell some of you do like to over react. Wonder if the same calls would be being made had it been Taylor or one of the other high profile players. I somehow doubt it despite the expected denials.
Tim would have been well aware of the expectations and the potential seriousness of Covid19. I am sure there would have been meetings and health briefings beforehand.
What he did, would as mentioned above by others, be a sackable offence in another line of profession. Yes it was minor, no one got hurt etc, but that doesn't mean that there wasn't a possibility for that to happen. Another km and he could of hit someone, crashed into something or a 1000 other things.
Tim got drunk, stole a buggy and joyrided whilst in quarantine, putting himself, his teammates, and the rest of the community at risk.
Sack him (I like the guy so would hate to see him go) otherwise what message does this give?

Most of their point is that it never would have been. Those guys have been total pros. Gotta say the way Payne has played this season, crossing for Hooper etc. means I wana see him playing again. Self interest really. Heard that it was a 5 km trip, so not insignificant. Wonder what they were thinking.
Even "total pros" can do some stupid things
should be sacked.. would've got away with a warning and fine... had this covid 19 situation not been occurring.
He can cry all he wants but the reality is there for all to see
different scenario, different type of money involved - very difficult to just sack. Payne will be on a maximum of 140k... probably around 100-120k. Also the club captain and best player by far.
By your previous reasoning he should be sacked though shouldn't really matter about his so called status. Wont happen though.
...And rightly so.
He stuffed up, he apologized, he's learnt his lesson. Let's all move on.
I'm sure Nix management would have given him a big kick up the old arse.
And he's probably on his last warning, but until he stuffs up again let's give him the benefit of the doubt.
He's a kid, not a drunk or a criminal.

He's is not a kid. He is 26 year old footballer playing for the Nix and NZ, managing his own contracts with the club. At that age the brain is fully developed to understand actions and consequences.
I'm not sure what are the sanctions should be, but this is not a 'stupid kid' thing. It's just stupid.
Same for Oliver Sail.
It is stupid indeed and no one disputes that. But I stand by my opinion that they should be dispiciplined but not sacked.
If this happens again, we'd have a very different conversation.
I've manged staff for years and fully believe in second chances and in drawing a line in the sand
whether he gets sacked or not might well be a moot point if the owners follow what Perth, Brisbane, and Adelaide are doing.

and CCM - even our good old RNZ commiserated with Michael McGlinchey in this morning's news bulletin.
In all seriousness in the history of this club has anyone else done a dumber or more serious thing during their employment?
We all make mistakes. We all have regrets about at least one thing we've done in our lives, and if you don't have any regrets you're either a complete saint or a liar. People deserve second chances. Apology was made, time to move on. Much more important things to be focusing on now in the world.
We might be needing players if we are still around after this.So sacking him may not be the wisest thing to do.
Isn't refreshing to see the NRL fine and suspend Nathan Cleary for Covid breaches.Remind me again what punishment has been dished out to Tim Payne or are the Phoenix hoping people will forget it ever happened.
you can't compare the two, what Cleary did was much worse and showed a complete disregard for coronavirus rather than what seems like a drunken stir-crazy lapse. Although I'll be surprised if Payne isn't fined, it's not something you should be proudly reminding everyone of more than a month later
Tim's actions received mainstream media coverage over here. Different rules for pro sport players compared to everyday Aussies is an ongoing simmering issue, brought into sharp focus with recent NRL and AFL players' stupidity. The Nix will be pulling out all stops to get clearance with Australian border control and NSW Health and FFA. He will be an extremely lucky young man if he is allowed to travel back to Oz in current covid environment.

This is not my personal view; but the reason is ... "because he is not an Australian citizen", in light of covid spread/borders closed etc.

This Tim Payne situation should've been dealt with ages ago. This is Dome and co hoping it will die down and go away ,get it done with and move on. He can't be allowed to get away with it you can't just say sorry on the radio and that's it I'm sure even Jason Pine would agree mind you he's in the pocket of the Phoenix

You dont know how it has been dealt with inside the club

Hello Tim,
Hope you are following the NZ covid level 3 rules.
So you think some dumb Ausi guy breaking social distancing rules dancing with some dumb females in his house is worse then
Some extremely dumb kiwi while actually working for his organisation, getting pissed of his tree, drink driving, breaking isolation (yes, the rules were tougher in Ausi then when Cleary did his dancing) while in quarantine with his team, breaking immigration laws and then getting arrested
And by doing so making it more difficult if his team has to ever go back there to keep their season and possibly their origanization alive
Get a grip
No i don't know how its been dealt with inside the club but we should know just like every other sporting organisation etc NRL EPL NZ Cricket NZR I repeat the Phoenix just want us to forget about it.Poor Poor Poor

What Tim did is much, much worse than Cleary. You have a foreign citizen breaking quarantine that was mandated as a condition of entry compared to an Australian cirizine breaking social distancing policy . A British woman was arrested, deported, and banned from entering Australia for three years for doing the same thing.

Sorry, Payne's was much worse - he broke quarantine.

of course he did break it - the entire squad were doing quarantine before their first game - read the news before they got on the plane to Australia

Yep, we have no right to know internal disciplinary matters. Obviously if he gets suspended or (unlikely) fired, it is inevitable that we would find out, but other than that, what business of it is ours?

? Of course I wasn't there. Like all of us, i'm going on what is being reported. I wasn't in the house with Cleary and the girls either.
Is there any dispute that he broke quarantine? Isn't it by his own admission?
I thought i read somewhere, he is up for a DIC charge at a NSW court some time this month. Obviously he won't be there in person.
Details were quite vague at the time. He was caught DIC of a golf cart, but was he still with in the boundary of the compound they were at, or was he actually out on the street with the golf cart.
Its pretty hard for everyone to make judgement when they don't know all the facts. That being said I didn't hear his apology on radio sport and if there was any detail confirmed in that interview.
Just gotta love how some on here love to over dramatize just about every thing Or should that be every thing. FK it just put the gallows up Tim needs to swing.
I like the bit about how Piney is in the pocket of the Phoenix

He's not going to be pulled over by the cops for driving around on private property. He was driving on a public road inland from Manly beach.
