What else could he have done?
There are some versions of it on YouTube - just search "Phoenix City".
Great post Terminator x......I'm all for adding Phoenix City as the icing.....
Please listen Tony P, this will just raise the roof (even higher)......

What else could he have done?
Why compose something when we have Phoenix City crying out to be played and chanted.....look how well the Dario (da da, da da dah, da da dah...PHOENIX) latino number goes when we're all chanting that one.....
Great that John is a Phoenix fan - he can spread the word on a global scale....

Tune 5 Tony
I was just in at Phoenix Towers. I could have dropped one off.
I'd go with version 4 off that list of yours Quackie.
That mix is also released as Rockers Express as well as Judge Dread.

You can also listen to (or buy) the original Skatalites version from the excellent Soul Jazz records site (it's on the Studio One Rockers album):
http://www.souljazzrecords.co.uk/releases/?id=176
Or you can buy a couple of different versions on iTunes (search on "Phoenix City"). I recommend either the 8 minute live freak out version by The (current) Skatalites, the version by Symarip or the version by Judge Dread."

I write with what I and many fellow Wellington Phoenix supporters/season ticket holders, regard as a very emotive point, our clubs identity and perception.
There has been a long running thread on the Yellow Fever site, regarding a Run On Song for the team and the overwhelming opinion has been in favor of the record PHOENIX CITY, performed by The Skatelites with versions by Prince Buster, Symarip, Judge Dread and also Roland Alphonso & The Soul Brothers.
Wellington Phoenix are a fledgling club who arrived at the magnificent Westpac Trust Stadium like cuckoos back in August, I feel we all have a mission and that is to mould an identity in the Australasian public mind and having a recognised signature tune goes a long way to achieving this.
The record does not have to only be played when the team runs out, there are many other times during the game, when we score for an example, when irrelevant annoying records are spewed out over the PA, lets use these times to market our club, via TV & Radio.
Other great internationally recognised football clubs have achieved this branding and use it to the advantage :-
Liverpool with You Will Never Walk Alone Gerry & The Pacemakers
Southampton with when The Saints Go Marching Home - Traditional
Millwall with Let Em Come Max Bygraves
England with Its Coming Home The Lightning Seeds
west ham Pretty Bubbles
Chelsea The Liquidator Harry J Allstars
So why cant we ?
This gets up and you lot are the coolest team in the league, bar none.
ive got a song that wont take long, Adelaide are rubbish.. the second verse is same as the first.. ADELAIDE ARE RUBBISH
Tony P .. you will be wetting yourself

It's a great song to run out to etc, but please lets not have records played when we score, or any other time during play. the fans are well capable of creating the atmosphere.

I've got a Didgeridoo and would be glad to fly up to each home game (provided someone else pays
) to
play it, mind you I'm awful on it.I think we can start a yellowfever band, Feverish on the Triangle, Loyalgunner on the Didgeridoo, and anybody who is equally as gifted as us on the kazoo.
He'd pick this up and be able to play it for YF real quick......and he could play from up the back so the brass reverberated out across the ground.....with us in full voice!!!

Good to see everybody jumping on board but I'd steer clear of the above clip - it's a dodgy version if you ask me. I much prefer this one by Japanese band the Ska Flames which is s better representation of the song (it's the "Phoenix City!" bit you really want to get the crowd into):

Feverish, Hard News - perhaps we should also cut some copies for the Backbencher and Fever Lounge to play. Let's turn this into an all out war of attrition with Phoenix City blasting out of every Phoenix venue in the city.
If someone PMs me an address to send them to I am happy to cut a couple of disks with the 5 different versions I own (Skatalites original version and live version, Judge Dread, Symarip and a great version by a yank band called Les Miserables).

How about Wellington's own The Offbeats version ?

No, no, I think you'll find they stole it off Melbourne or Sydney. They did EVERYTHING first.
