Mr Huxley should have taken his wife to the Ring of Fire and been in the Fever Zone when we equalized against Melbourne Victory on August 26th.......then there'd be absolutely no way his wife wouldn't understand the attraction of the beautiful game.......

There is a huge amount of talent, skill and passion coming out of Africa - that I have to agree with.  And to have watched the ability of Drogba, the education of Kalou, the raw aggression of Obi Mikel and the incredible all round game of Michael Essien there are some fantastic players coming out of that continent and they all certainly love the honour playing for their countries - and for the people of their poverty, drought and war stricken nations.

2010 World Cup in South Africa will be an amazing tournament, and I'm picking Ivory Coast to reach the semi finals.....

Only to lose to Scotland, who will go on to beat France in the final ('cos we own those Frogs!)

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

That would mean that the All whites, who qualified by beating the Aussies will have knocked out Italy and Brazil!!!

Yeah, the AWs will lose 75 - 74 to the French on penalties in an entertaining semi-final

Hmm, I must say I agree with some of the things he's saying. He got very carried away with the Zullo incident though, there wasn't that much in it.

There should be no place in our game for thugs who seem to get sent off about 3 times a season. (Yes we all know who they are). Personally I'd like to see the ban for a sending off be longer so the players who consistently get booked for rash and dangerous tackles become less and less appealing for managers to buy.

Also I think anyone should be able to be convicted of diving on video evidence post game. These players should receive a similar ban. Stomp diving right out of the game I say! (hurrumph)

Nice one, Fitz.

If we did relegate diving to the Olympic Games, where it belongs, we could lose Daniel for a few more games each season, but if the penalty for offending was harsh enough, he'd soon learn to stay on his feet.

And how about a very tight limit on yellow cards? Once a player reaches the max (say about 8?) that's it. Out for the rest of the season! (A red card could count as four yellow cards towards that tally!)

Sound draconian enough?

(Anyone know how much control the A-League has over issues like this without needing Fifa consent?)

agree about retrospective bans for diving!! if the the video shows no contact - instant one or two match ban

re suspensions for cards, different leagues clearly have different suspension thresholds  but whether they needed to go to fifa for approval i don't know (i'd suspect not - but ???)

not sure if I'd ban a player for the rest of the season for two sendings off - especially with some of the decisions we've seen

Each football authority controls how the displinary process works in their own competitions. The Laws of the Game aren't affected, just the punishments for breaking them. Wouldn't think something like that would be a FIFA matter, although they might get involved as it's a tad controversial.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Nope, Football's fine as it is. Obviously a three year old league in a small-ish country where soccer is the third football code isn't really going to be the place to see technique over force type football. Maybe he should've got his wife to watch the Socceroos last night instead.

But then those decisions would also be subject to video check post- match.

If the ref's got it wrong, no foul or penalty for the player or team.

However, the ref would be forced to sit on a bed of nails for the duration of a Nix home game ... in the company of a bunch of Yellow Feverians.

Give new meaning to the Ring of Fire?

There is really only a handful of players who are dirty, forceful players in the A-League. Every league has them. In the A-League most of them will be retired in a couple of years anyway..

And what would we be left with?

Q:  Other than when we score, what is it that get the YF the most animated and creates the atmosphere we love so much (I'll make it multiple choice for you)?

a)  A great 30 yards pass
b) a neat one two
c) a nice gentle tackle where only ball is taken and both players remain on their feet
d) an opposition player diving and getting a free kick
e) A nasty badly timed challenge, studs up not even looking at the ball
f) a full on 22 man brawl where even the ref gets involved

IMO 3 of the above are nice viewing for the prawn sarnie brigade, and three are what get the YFZ going.  As I've said before the game has become too soft already!

Sad but true, DLB. Same in most sports, it's the old "I only wtach motor racing for the crashes" syndrome. Can't beat a good all-in brawl to fire a crowd up. Mind you, they're not much fun when you're refereeing the game tho'

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

if it's all thuggery then players like felipe, juninho, and perhaps even Costa won't last in the league

I'm quite happy for one of their lot to get sent off, and i don't mind if ross, tim, or johnno turf someone over the sideline (as long as they don't pick up a red for doing so)

but I also think that a decent ball played into space or a player who can make someone like Tiatto look a mug without getting their leg broken for the privelege are worth the price of admission

all i want is enough aggression to win, anything above that is bollocks as far as i'm concerned
