Foundation member, poor memory, bad judgement.  But what the heck:

solely on demonstrated, on the field individual football skills (S), teamwork, workrate and playmaking (T), consistent game impact (I)

*no marks for longevity* just consistent fizz on the field while they were here

Total (S, T, I)

OK, I get a whole lot of ties, but I've ranked them subjectively.

1.  Ifill 28 (10, 8, 10) class, goals, assists and occasionally some wicked defending

2. Smeltz 25 (9, 7, 9) predator scorer's skills and instincts. that's it, but it counts.  21 goals in just two seasons.

3. Burns 24 (9, 7, 8) pace, skills, goals. Won games.  Until they sat on him

4. Bonevacia 24 (10, 8, 8) skills, effort, but vision and production not quite matching.  Still deservedly No4. Potential for more.

5. Brown 24 (7, 9, 8) under-rated end to end toiler, organiser, and 23 goals, 9 assists.

6. Durante 24 (7, 9, 8) solid, organising, saved heaps (and hope he has another good year in him, with Rossi alongside)

7. Sigg 24 (6, 9, 9) desparate, 110%, motivating and, in the end, not a bad footballer

8. Greenacre 24 (8, 9, 7) tidy as, total pro, but not quite the impact you'd like

9. Krishna 24 (7, 9, 8) pace, effort, mixed touch, goals.  could move up if he has another couple of improving seasons

10. Rojas 23 (9, 8, 6) skills, pace, effort, corner taker, but green when we had him and not a lot of production

Up and comers:

Kosta

Finkler

Rossi

Special mentions:

bertos, most assists, but ... not quite a top 10.  Bertos or Rojas, on straight class, I go Rohas. Better than Greenacre?

daniel, skills, assists, goals, fun, not given enough time by Ricki, probably otherwise should be ahead of Rohas, but lacking some pace

felipe, classy as, but, honestly, I don't recall enough memorable match making moments

daddi, short but sweet

Not quites:

brockie, one great season, hit and miss though. impact? requires scoring when it counts

mcglinchey, tidy, but not as impactful as a Greenacre or Brown

lia, ok ok, works hard, loyal, tough, blah blah, but missing the pace, impact and overall skillset to be top 10.  Siggy stopped more attacks, motivated more and worked more, Brown scored more.  And the rest of my top 10 are just better players. A great squad member for us, but not top 10.

Manny, Riera.  Good starters, did the job. Not top 10.

I think good criteria and score card. One thing you could add to would be the longevity = Each season gives an extra point. Otherwise very well rounded.

Pretty scathing assessment of all phoenix players, past and present.

He is a politician sure but he is a football fan. I don't feel like when he is in the YF zone he is doing it for votes and I believe he does actually loves his football so his top 10 would be backed up with some knowledge

I'm an optimistic pessimist.
I'm positive things will go wrong.

Odd kind of top ten. Not the greatest players or even perhaps in the best form, but perhaps the most honest or overlooked or somesuch, though all are special players or at the least had some special moments IMO:

Manny (C)

Greenacre

Karl Dodd

Mark Paston

Jonathon McKain

DMac

Ridenton

Tim Brown

Dani Sanchez

Jason Hicks

I always thought McKain played his best here and should never have gone. DMac whilst being big and clumsey scored goals. Sanchez too was decent enough. Dodd was an honest player but he, Plodder and O'Dor kept getting mixed up in defence. resulting in a comedy of errors.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

The Ruf, The Ruf, The Ruf is on Fire!!

Dodd purely for his brilliant drop kick on Joel Griffiths

DMac cos I watched him score a 30 metre goal against the Roar in pre-season in Hamilton and was thinking well Kosta's made a mistake here, Ange is a bust- but this Sean Lovemore could turn out to be a decent replacement. Heh.

not sure how anyone could exclude moss, durante, sigmund, ifill or smeltz.after thats its more competitive with Daniel, costa, rojas, paston, burns probably pushing for the next five slots.

You can't pick them on the peak performance of their career, you have to pick them on their performance at the Phoenix - which means no Rojas or Kosta for me (although that will hopefully change this time next year).

If you did pick on peak performance then your team would have to include Ahmend Elrich and Tony Warner. Heck Pantelis would be reasonably high up on the list (although not top ten) despite the fact that with his two seasons at the club he never played a game (poor guy).

I think you forget at some times under Ricki, plan A was "get it to Rojas". And Plan B was "get it to Rojas".

Rojas might not have been the complete player then but he was pretty much our main attacking weapon. (Much like "get it to Burns" in 2015)

That's my reason for selecting Rojas in the Top 10.

I remember it more like- when will Rojas get a run?

972 minutes in 21 games. He only started 10 games but still remember the excitement of those few meaningful appearances.
