Wot about Ole Soccer Academy @ Porirua

Kaiwharawhara Park is legendary around wellington for its quality surface and well managed and maintained club house, the lights are a little weak though...

What about at the Uni? Is there any Sports Science type set up there?

Wonder if itll be open training so we can go have a geez or two!
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
The uni is sh*t as as far as i remember, dont really have any good sporting facilities
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Kingz nearly always had open trainings.
It was real fun going to watch Fallon yell at the players and listening to what they would say when his back was turned.

A dog with a bone :)

KP - Kelburn Park has no facilities - Boyd Wilson anyone

Seriously, Ole Academy is probably the best choice as it has a good setup - If the upgrade at Newtown goes ahead that's another option.

ole academy would be my pick, but possibly memorial park in petone. capital soccer HQ is there.  not sure how good the facilities are though

I think Ole is the only facility that could accomodate a professional team.  It would be good if they could have training and back office all in one home venue...

Being a professional club they will need a clubrooms/offices. Depending on where these are may effect where they train. Word has it that the old Petone college may be an option and using the grounds there eventually. It is next door to Petone Memorial and that may be the training ground until the old school is refurbished. It is one of very few purely football grounds in Wellington so is available all summer. The only problem is that TW train there in the summer and so do Petone during the winter.

Its no longer a problem.

Any idea where and when training wil begin?
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago

From a financial standpoint they'd probably want their training base to be out of town. Cheaper rent than closer to town and also cheaper housing for their overseas/out of town players (if the club is picking up any part of that bill). So possibly out Porrirua way or in the Hutt

almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago

good point but somehow i don't think finance is gonna be a problem...

almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
I thnk theyd want a more local place like Newtown Park. I dont see anything wrong with that.

I think Open sessions would allow the public to sit in and practise chants, and edge the players on, giving them a reason to push harder. Would be better for fans and players alike.
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Oh what a great idea.  Watching the players train while practising chants such as 'Winds of Change'

Tell me, surely, this wouldn't really happen...

I let my guitar speak for me

STOP WITH THE PRACTISING CHANTS - thats full of sh*t.

'Wind of Change' was never a chant, it was more a suggestion that we should adopt some song.

Heres some info re training and information night

WCC as their contribution to Phoenix have closed Newtown #2 with the aim of redeveloping it as a quality training venue. MacAlister Park is the alternative and the WCC are paying for temporary lights there so no real problems about that. WU agreed to the shift as there is a benefit for the Club once the redevelopment finishes and it keeps us in the WCC good books as far as Newtown # 1 goes. Re Phoenix, there is an information night at the Petone headquarters of Capital Football on Monday 14th 7pm at which Ricki Herbert and El Tel will present and answer questions

doesnt the stadium have a gym and sh*t, wouldnt they practice there......i forgot that the stadium is a bourdelo
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Macallister park is a dump last time i played there they squeeze 2 pitches on a park that can only fit one full size pitch.
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
haha they wont train macallister, we train there and its average. Theyl train at ole. Wests training ground no doubt. Possibly Newtown but doubt it.

Finance is ALWAYS a problem.
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago

and ye the westpac probably does have a gym but this isnt body building, they need a ground to train on and they might but its unlikely theyl train on there playing ground.

So possibly out Porrirua way or in the Hutt

Man I would not what my players living in the Hutt or Porirua.  It's ok I'm from the Hutt so I can bag it.

almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Im not from the hutt and i agree its trash, they will definetely probably live in some of terrys properties possibly or oriental bay somewhere. The last thing u wanna see in the papers is Aloisi walking down the street with 3 little maori boys smoking pot and offering him some haha. Also the training ground might be a 35 min drive but ye ole is the best. Maby what eveyone should have thought of before making ole is why have it out there? U dont exactly have ne good teams. Wests? rubbbbbbbbbish. I say Newtown would be the training ground! Could we please get a poll going for this. Westpac, Newtown Park, Ole, and whateva else then other perhaps.
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
I think that you maybe a bit behind the times about Porirua. It has come along way since the 70s and if I recall Newtown is just as, if not worst at night. And who won the Chatham Cup??????.
and also Porirua Park is a great ground!
Some of Wellington great sportpeople come from Porirua ans surrounding areas
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Wests r like chelsea players dont care about the club they jst wanna get money thts why all our players left olympic. But we got a better team this year and are paying hardly nething in fees yet attracted the likes of degregorio to come. Passion not money. Also who have u developed? We got simon elliot and leo bertos, not to mention costa in a way too. Tolli butty u lose. Neways back to the pheonix. Oh iv posted enough time for u others to post.

When I spoke to Ricki last week he said that Terry was talking to the council about a training ground so I'm wondering whether they might be looking at something purpose built?  Guess that rules out the Hutt and Porirua as they have different councils?

I know that some of the guys have been doing some work out at Ole with Stu Jacobs before the squad assembles, so maybe they'll start there for now.  Newtown 2 is a way away and I don't see how they could have Newtown 1 as a training venue, it's the premiere match venue in Wellington.

Is the all new Karori Park an option?
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago

Ole would be a great place to train with its facilities and stuff, but for some reason i see them at Newtown Park.

almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
The new Karori Park could be an option at some stage. Prob Ole is the most likely.
