With the size of the squad, management and medical staff. Training at least 5 days a week they will need a large facility . I don't think Wellington has any thing like this. The Hurricanes took Rugby League Park. May be they will have to take over the old show buildings and turn the top car parks into fields. Who need ashpalt there now a days? Blew2007-05-17 22:46:48

Lollipops has 3 or 4 totally awesome pits full of plastic balls, maybe they can train there?

If they only have a groud then they will probably align with a gym (most likely Les Mills or Exodus) to keep set-up costs down. That way only grass, a changing room and meeting/tactics room will be needed. This opens it up to most grounds in Wellington. The only issue is most grounds have teams playing on them so a full time team training will damage the surface too much with the combination of games and training. They'll need a dedicated surface. I'm lost for ideas outside of a new location as non-playing surfaces are normally woeful. The time it takes to lay a new surface is too long for them to get on it this season. I can see them using Ole as a short-term option with a new location next season.

Its no longer a problem.

If they use Ole, it is out of the way if they want closure. BUT i herd the basin is an option.

Hi there, the Knights used Massey University Albany for the majority of their training.  We had (have) an indoor cricket lane set up (the best in NZ outside of NZ Cricket itself) and they used this a lot.  The boys also used the sports halls often for practicing drills, and they spent alot of time in the gym exercising with the rest of the gym members.  I became quite friendly with Brockie, Moss, Bull, Adshead,Bazeley,  Emblin, Devine, Rodrigues (I knew of his signing well before it was anounced), Hickey and Salley.

I personally always felt that Baz and Emblin got a rough deal from us kiwis, they were (and possibly still are) good enough for the A-League, the majority of the rest of the imports not so.

Miramar Park has no room for good facilities unless the Tennis club is relocated. The ground it self could never be good enough to be considered flood proof in mild WGTN rain.

I heard Herbert mention the Basin only in a talk with Morrison on radio sport at about 11.30 yesterday morning.

Basin would be good for public trainings but won't they be having to rope off the cricket block after club rugby finishes there?

Your probably right, but I left NZ when Salley was injured and never had a chance to see Marcina or Gao play

Just read in stuff that they have confirmed the Basin and Newtown Park.

"Meanwhile, Phoenix have confirmed the Basin Reserve and Newtown Park as their two training venues. Training starts on June 4."

Any chance of someone getting down there with a video camera to get some footage of the brazilians in the next month or so?

If we build it, they will come...

How about Raroa Park it is fantsastic, has a small changing shed, the field slopes so you can't see the opposite corners and right next door is a meals on wheels restaurant for the boys to retire to after, it includes sleeping accomadation (Dame Malvina Major Retirement home is it's other name).
