Jerryd Tyson has been released by WSW - has anyone seen him play? Would he be an upgrade on Italiano/Velaphi?

He will be signing for South Melbourne in the VIC NPL

His best chance of getting another A-League gig is as a teams social media person tbh.

Listening to ccm vs Newcastle.... Commentator's said that phoenix approached Jason Hoffman for next season, he turned us down.

I heard this and started wondering, who is making that decision? He is a decent utility player but his form this season is an outlier, I doubt he will reach these levels again.

Thats the single most important question I think

We have no coach

We are not signing our own players until we have a coach

But we are approaching Jason Hoffman?

One could suspect the new coach may have already accepted (and kept on the hush) and identified this player to start the process?

if thats true it would be someone who has with Hoffman before. Does that narrow it down?

If this was indeed the case, then it would most likely point to three ex-Jets coaches - Gary van Egmond, Mark Jones or Scott Miller. Haven't really heard much from van Egmond in recent years, likewise with Jones. Scott Miller was "linked" with the Nix job a few weeks ago, but he was also rumoured to be in the running for the CCM gig and I think also with Perth, so make of that what you will. Hoffman was at Heart/City for a while too, but mainly under John van't Schip who is now coaching Ryan Thomas at PEC Zwolle so thats definitely not going to happen. John Aloisi was in charge for a season and coached Hoffman then, but I would think all of these options are very unlikely. Given Domey has said they're currently busy, out of all these the most likely candidates would be either John Aloisi (because the Roar are in the finals) or Gary van Egmond who I've just remembered is the assistant coach of the Matildas (who have reached the semi-final of the AFC Women's Asian Cup and therefore would make Gary unavailable)

This is just speculation on speculation, so I'm not saying this happened: But the only way I find us approaching Hoffman acceptable is if both candidates for the Nix job were asked about what sort of players they want the club to be chasing in the interview process, and they both had eyes on Hoffman. A possible explanation but no proof.

To be honest, I'm more bothered about the fact that Hoffman apparently turned us down. Not because I particularly rate him, or want him here, just the (massively unsurprising) fact that even bang average journeymen like him don't want to play for us. Allegedly.

Like the hand waving we're doomed rubbish about Scot Miller or whoever else has been linked by an agent or the media with a gig here (as coach or player) I give this whole story a 1/10 on the News credence scale.

Sam Malcolmson is still 6 months behind. He also calls McGlinchey a quality import.

I see young and experienced Kiwi players who are being coached by quality New Zealand coaches every week of the year that have the ability and desire to succeed if given the opportunity. We are a small country and the football fraternity is a tight network and as such most know what is happening around the country. Another fact is that most of the influential football community have strong ties overseas either with clubs or former players. A Kiwi appointment would ensure a connection with coaches and players. Every major sport in New Zealand has a Kiwi coach so why not football?

I think what he says is quite reasonable. Having a local coach, of course, hinges on them being suitably qualified according to the FFA criteria.

To me it reads like an article a Fox commentator would write about us - kind of vague, doesn't show any real knowledge about us and throws in a name like Michael McGlinchey that on paper is recognizable as one of our better players, despite not having played well for us since the Burns season; doubt he will still be here next season. It reminds me of a season preview write up by one of the fox pundits. They clearly didn't recognise many names on our roster and went with Ali Abbas as our star signing and the key to us scoring goals.

Where else would WeeMac go? Scotland? His move to the JLeague really screwed him as he can't have been too far off getting Australian citizenship.

suggesting that weemac is an import shows how little he actually knows though - regardless of how reasonable he is being.

He already flopped in Scotland before coming to A-League so can't see much interest for him in Scotland given that & form over recent years.

Please show me where all these Kiwi coaches with Pro Licenses are hiding. I agree with the point of having a New Zealander coach, but because of the (bullshark) FFA stipulation of coaches requiring a Pro License its all a bit pointless discussing it, because how many Kiwi coaches even had it? Until the league parts way with the FFA or until we are booted out, its gotta be an Aussie or foreigner for at least the next few years surely
