If we got Peter Crouch at his age I would be utterly distraught. That could be a season killer.

Crouch lacks the mobility needed for our style of defence and attack. We need a mobile #9

They need pace and a good engine on them for the high pressing game.

Plus I'm pretty sure we are looking at marquee strikers - I'd hope we would be more optimistic than league one for a marquee

We were looking at players that could qualify for Guest Contracts whilst we waited for Krishna's citizenship. Now that we have the spot to use, I don't think we will be chasing a big name anymore.

Of them I'd have Billy Sharp, or Peter Crouch. Probably looking at the over 30's for Championship, maybe 25+ for League One.

Billy Sharp would be fantastic. A more mobile McCormack. I’d prefer Fornaroli as a primary option because he’s a lot more than just a finisher, though it seems he’s training his way back into the city squad.

How good would Rojas be for Burns? Role seems made for him

Rossi is still available, might be cheaper now.

Bang average for Bradford it seems. 24 games in 2 seasons, only 5 goals

Unless you mean the podcast Alex Jones, he ain’t doing much better

I'd hope we're a bit more ambitious than we were in 2007 tbh

Steven Taylor came from League One too of course. He's a defender, but happy with someone who can score goals as well as Taylor can defend.

He played most of his career in the Premier League tho. You look at the strikers around the league, Keogh, O'Donovan, McCormack, Le Fondre & Toivonen have all played in the Premier League + Riera played in the La Liga. The standard for strikers is probably at its highest level yet.

O'Donovan an interesting one, his last stint in England was in League Two. Wonder if there's any other decent strikers floating around down there these days?

ROD is the obvious weak one, he barely had a career in England but Keogh/ALF/McCormack were all Championship regulars and Toivonen an Eredivisie regular. That is the kinda level we need to aim for nowadays.

I was just pointing out we have had league MVPs who came out of the lower leagues, with Krishna, Siggie and Riera coming from asbp or wateva it is.

Contrary to what the naysayers believe the A-League quality keeps improving and we may not cut it anymore without looking at at least one more quality import to match the Kurto ,  Taylor etc.  quality already present.  Guys like Singh will develop better next to guys like Krishna but we need more.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Tbf most of those Championship strikers would improve us. On top of the two you've mentioned, I wouldn't mind Nugent or Hooper - both know how to score goals.

I'd be very keen to see Crouch playing for us. It would make life very difficult for opposing defences and take the pressure right off our other front runners.

No idea what nugent is like these days but hooper would be a fantastic addition. As long as his attitude was correct. From memory, it wasn't great towards the end of his celtic career.

Well Stephen Ireland has been released from Bolton, he played with Taylor at Newcastle. Not sure he is what we need & nothing saying we are chasing him.

Players signed from Scandinavian Leagues don't really have a very good record in the A-League:

Aleksandr Kokko
Wayne Brown
Michael Jakobsen
Tobias Mikkelsen
Johan Absalonsen
Morten Nordstrand
Juho Makela

Only Absalonsen has really stood out. Also you asking someone to come from a Euro winter and play straight away in an Aussie summer.

Hope what Taylor was saying about talking to lots of players are true. Interestingly yesterday Mulvey said the Mariners are going to strengthen in January but they won't get imports because it takes several weeks to get a work visa. Maybe NZ is easier but it hasn't been a problem for us in the past iirc.

Maybe Mulvey was speaking in code, ie CCM can only afford NPL players to 'strengthen' their squad.

They are probably gonna look to pick up some players on the outer at their A-League clubs. Luke DeVere is fit and can't make the Roar's travelling squad for example. If they came and asked us about Fox/Lowry, would we stand in their way?

I'm only assuming it's a signing because Rudan is there and it's at their training ground. It's scheduled for 830am which seems a bit odd.

So perhaps more likely some squad NZ players.

Good solid additions if that's the case. Timely with current schedule and players on yellow cards. Although am still keen to see Callan Elliot get a run at some stage and have been happy with what I've seen of Max Burgess.
