tl:dr has Auckland Phoenix lost his shark about this yet and thrown his rattle in a post
Yes
Inasmuch as I also preferred to see a more experienced coach appointed instead of the Dynamic Duo, I appreciate that there are factors at play we don't know (someone else approached and agreed on terms but not free till next season??? etc).
However, either way, I am not going to throw my toys and the club scarf out of the pram just because Des and Chris were appointed "against my best advice". I think it is more worthwhile to give them our benefit of the doubt. And so I, for one, will continue loudly cheering my team on, every game day, and also venting my angst on this forum of course.
Let's give them a Green light; and hope we may yet Buck the current trend.

Well, I hope that the new coaching duo don't "Fizz" but rather that the team comes back from the dead as Bucks Fizz did literally after nearly dying in an auto crash in 1984:
COACH CRASH 1984
"On 11 December 1984, while on tour and returning from a sell-out gig in Newcastle, the group's tour bus collided with some road works and crashed. While no one was killed, all the members of Bucks Fizz were badly injured. Bobby G was treated for whiplash, Jay Aston was hospitalised for back injuries and severe head pains, Cheryl Baker broke three vertebrae in her spine, but it was Mike Nolan who suffered the worst injuries. Nolan's head was badly injured, suffering internal bleeding and he fell into a coma. After an operation, he was reported to have died on the operating table but placed on a life support machine. He remained in a coma for three days, during which time the British press kept Bucks Fizz on the front pages headlines. Surgeon Anthony Strong at Newcastle General Hospital said that his condition was critical. On 15 December it was reported that Nolan awoke from his coma with the words "I'm all right". Following this, Nolan was ordered not to work for the next six months. The effects of the crash remain with him today, including epilepsy, short term memory loss and a 50% loss of vision in both eyes. But he still performs in a version of Bucks Fizz to this day. Following this, Baker and Nolan helped set up the HeadFirst charity for head injuries of crash victims."

do you still have that album?
Nah mate, this is the sort of music I was into circa 1980-81- live and local gigs (I remember seeing the Oils at Avalon RSL or The Antler for $6); plus of course Double/Triple J.

I would love to comment on your great detective work here Big Pete, but I'm steering clear of crashes for awhile.

BUCK GREEN
Buck Green is a pre-created Sim from The Sims 3: Ambitions. He is the new boyfriend of the much older Kat Hunter [i.e. Ernie Merrick], who is the ex-wife of Clark Peddler [Melbourne Victory]. His name could allude to the fact that he is younger and less experienced than Kat, as "a young Buck" is a term for a young man, and "Green" is a term meaning inexperienced. His name could also be referring to money, as he could have fame and fortune. He starts out with a career in Sports. Although he is invincible in physical terms, in his love life he is becoming the hunted rather than him being the hunter.

hey Ramon, hurry up and get your pro licence if you want to coach us!
I guess the Honeymoon period is over, was short and sweet whilst it lasted, now down to business as normal.
At the risk of sounding like the management knob I'm slowly turning into, our team culture seems rotten. It doesn't seem like anyone is held accountable for poor performances and there's no obvious passion or drive to succeed. We need to do the closest thing to burning it all down and starting again- new manager, new assistant and some new first team players please. Two years and counting of toothless football and uninterested players and inflexible coaching.
People like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis. You can't trust people.

When you start the season aiming for "the six" (ie sixth in a ten team league) you are demonstrating your ambition.
Normo's coming home
I only every heard Merrick say top 4 was the goal.
I thought it was more they said we want to be in the play offs so that pretty much covers any spot between 1 & 6.
It's looking pretty unlikely. Look at the Breakers, not a great start to their season and were written off but have strung some results together and are a good chance of making the play offs. They will have to rely on other results but they are at least keeping up their end of the bargain.
We should always be aiming for number 1, expect to be number 1 and strive for nothing less than number 1.
This crap about let's hope to make the top 6 or we want to make the top 6 is for losers and is a defeatist attitude. I guess that is the difference between being a true professional and a look-a-like.

I thought when Des took over they said our goal was top two at the start of the season but it was revised to top four.

No it isn't. You don't see a bigger picture do you? If you start with the attitude of number 1 now, you can get the players mindset focussed, you start to instill in them that that is the only target. It might not work out for the rest of this season but it should be a familiar thought process for them next season. It is the difference of being a professional or being an amateur. So to call it stupid is either very nieve or an underachieving attitude.

Hate to break it to ya LG, even if we did get manage to get all of the 24 points left on offer, we still wouldn't finish first. :-(
Have we met any of the goals set this season? I think not. I don't even know who can make a difference now. I still wouldn't rule out finishing the season with the wooden spoon, we have been that inconsistent it wouldn't surprise me.
We've scored some goals, but not met them
Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

What I am talking about is attitude and mindset, not results. We have to lose the 6th place attitudes.

I've got a feeling this is what Ernie drilled into the boys when we had that amazing season a few years ago.
When they went for their headshots for Fox Sports, Ernie told one of the Matchday Saturday guys (not sure if that's aired on Sky in NZ) that this team is special. Surely if Ernie is saying that to Fox reporters, he would have told the boys that and made them believe it.
I don't know what the hell he thought of this current team, but obviously it's not the same feeling in the rooms..
Who' going to be our coach next season?
These two are surely gone if we lose a fourth game in a row. As I said when the due were announced, we should have instead consigned Greenie to the P45 with Ernies retirement, as otherwise it would simply be a continuation of the Herbert-Merick dynasties.
We need someone to come in with no links to the past.
Oh crap! That rules everyone on this forum out then!

Having seen some of our shots at goal over the last few seasons I would suggest he was talking about the Top 4 rows of the stadium.

Irony Coops. I was 3/4 way through..."If you're in row z and you get hit in the head, it's Vinnie Lia" when he scored that beauty up in Hamilton.

Words and deeds. If that is the case presumably there will be an almighty bloodletting end of season considering how much of a failure the season has been against that goal?

Lol. I was yelling don't shoot at him too!

The way some of our attacking players go you'd wonder if any of them had ever met a goal.
Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
