Am I reading too much into it or are Daniel McHardy and Jason Pine intimating it's him in this thread?

I thought they were. And I thought McKenzie saying it on One News had to be based on something more than 'Swiss-Bosnian mentioned on podcast-YFers google'.

Don't give the NZ press too much credit.

For sure but it makes more sense than any other name. And wild speculation and half baked  rumours are necessary to maintain sanity during the dark winter months

But it only makes sense because of what SST said? Wild speculation is what this is, but some are starting to treat it like it's fact...

Well, it makes sense in that it's a realistic target, who is out of a job, has links to the A League, and has shown a willingness to work outside Europe. Not like Wolf or Di Matteo or Moyes or any of that BS

Exactly. My search criteria was "Swiss-Bosnian Manager." Given we don't have enough money/attraction to buy someone out of a contract it is incredibly likely he's probably unemployed.

There aren't many Swiss-Bosnian or Bosnian-Swiss managers (for that matter) kicking about so there were two people - The Swiss national team's manager - Vladimir Petković (not going to happen) or Darije Kalezic - out of work end of last year.

If the primary search criteria was wrong, it could be a totally different person.

Meh, it's as good as confirmed. Semantics.Australians may know something about a popular Australian assistant coach who often talks to media buddies.

Vidosic is an interesting signing. The most experienced Assistant we've had since Trani?

Rado would be a great signing, the sort of assistant we've been missing.

I'm assuming that players from Bosnia and Serbia as they are not part of the EU can't just rock up and play elsewhere in Europe?

Maybe a good potential striker is playing in one of those leagues on not much pay?

A lot of those types end up in SE Asia earning more than most A-League clubs can afford.

Well if this is as reported this is a massive upgrade on Merrick/Greenacre so to my mind it shows that the club are (a) serious and (b) investing money in the right place.  Let's hope we can get the players he needs to deliver!

100% agreed.

Whether it works or not is dependent on a number of factors; but at least we are giving it a crack.

I heard today that Kalezic and Vidosic is actually happening!! I'd love to know where that leaves Buckingham and Greenacre. Greenacre is very engrained in the club, wife also has a job at the club.

It'd be interesting to know too if the new gaffer has some reasonable coin to spend on some good new signings.

I would hope they both (Buckingham & Greenacre) are retained in other roles at the club.

Speculation alert: I would not be surprised if Vidosic still wants to be a head coach one day. Maybe after Kalezic returns to Europe or moves to Australia (more likely) Rado will be in the picture?  He clearly wanted to coach previously (at the Roar but it all went to custard).

Believe he has already said he does not want to be head coach again after what happened at the Roar; but I can't find a source for that. Remember reading it, though.

Buckingham could still be the goal keeping coach with the Nix but guessing we might have to find an academy role for Greenacre, if he wants to stay.

Time for Greenacre to leave the nest and go and prove himself somewhere else. He should try and get a gig as head coach at NZ premier level. See if he has got what it takes to be a head coach. He has had his chance" at the Nix.....and the results have been mixed. It is time for a clean out....we have allowed mediocrity to become the norm at this club.

I hope the new coaches put a bomb under the club and players. I am sick of the lame " hope we make the top six"" attitude. I hope these new guys come with a strong sense of the tactics and style of football they want to play to be succesful. If some of the players don't like it.....tough. Find players who will bust their arse every game. My support for this club is wavering. I will support them 100% if they put in the effort in every week...despite the results. But I'm not interested if they just continue not to turn up.

Lets be honest - we all love Greenie, but he lucked into this job. Not many coaches go from being a player straight into an assistant manager role and then onto a head coaching appointment.

He's now had a lot of experience and should be able to find a job somewhere else to hone his skills.

If you're the new head coach do you want the unsuccessful applicant for the head coach job as your keeper coach? I doubt it.

I do not think this is necessarily the case here from the perspective of the head coach, and Rado would also understand someone who wants to stay at the club after an unsuccessful head coach stint.

On the other hand I would agree that Des might be backing himself to coach a team and eventually go somewhere else, probably back in UK.  It would be hard for him to get an equivalent gig here (well, there aren't any) or in Australia (where continental coaches are preferred to English ones).

Which is a shame because Des has skills and ability the club would benefit from, but obviously not enough to succeed as head coach as yet.

Does he? Maybe. I don't know much about him. I just think it's really doubtful that someone who has been the top dog, applied to continue being the top dog and lost, will be a positive influence as fifth assistant to the new top dog. I reckon the new top dog will want his own people who are enthused about him and his ideas. Not the bitter and twisted carcass of the failed incumbent.

But hey, maybe his skills and abilities are so valuable they'll make it work.

I don't believe that's correct. It's relatively common for a change in CEO to herald a change in leadership team composition/membership. It's also relatively common for unsuccessful applicants for corporate leadership roles to depart having been unsuccessful.

Perhaps you're equating the Head Coach role to some sort of middle-management position, where a bunch of applicants might apply including some who report to that position, and they may stay despite being unsuccessful. But I don't think this situation is analogous to that.

This is the key leadership role in the organisation. The top dog. And my view is as above. A vanquished top dog won't be welcome, and won't want, to hang around to be the top dog's seventh assistant.

I've seen it a few times once a CFO became the temporary CEO and applied for the job, they didn't get it but stayed on board. I've also seen a number of senior managers apply for a CEO position and ultimately another applicant was chosen, they all stayed.

It also happens frequently, as you say, in middle management.

I don't know many people who would be petty enough to let the fact that a better candidate got a job that they wanted reflect on their performance if they stayed, if they felt that way they would leave.

You want the best employees possible and if they were in the position before are happy to stay in a lesser role then who cares?

I've seen it mentioned a few times that Kalezic doesn't like scouting or signing players, he's not a manager in the English tradition but a coach. No doubt he'd have a lot of input but it seems like the nix with it's football committee would be a good fit.
