Id be happy for Des and Greenie being there for the season.

Greenie has had many years on the fringes and i think he deserves a chance at this level. He speaks well, and was a very experienced pro.

Des is the unknown to us, but very qualified. If he's happy to assist Greenie id be happy. Not sure if co coaches are sustainable as there must be a time where both disagree. That's when you need a gaffer, the gaffer then falls on his sword if all goes wrong.

Greenie certainly does not "speak well".

Whenever he's in the media he's always hesitant and uncertain - "Hopefully we'll win this week", etc.

You need a coach that speaks with confidence, and that will inspire fans to turn up as they will believe the team can win.

It will also inspire players.

It's no wonder we only got 5,000 in Auckland when Greenacre was so hesitant in the media the week before.

He is a nice guy, but he needs to do some media training before considering a manager's role.

Phil Alexander, Crystal Palace CEO of nineteen years and former Miramar Rangers, Wellington NZ National League centreback:

"Hi Rob and David. I'm giving Alan Pardew the flick this week. I know that you're looking for a new manager so you might want to hold off on your decision. Thought I might send Alan your way. He's mentioning a million dollars a season."

Rob Morrison: "Hold on. That might work for us in Hong Kong dollars..."

Yeah, right.

Ernie tried to retire a few weeks before the Adelaide game and was asked to stay on so Welnix knew that this was on the cards - they were probably sounding out people from that point. Add to the fact that they were pretty adamant it would be resolved in a very short time frame and it's a pretty good bet they had a good idea on who they wanted.

The self imposed deadline passes tomorrow and it seems unlikely that a new coach will be announced on Christmas day, so we can assume that something has gone awry.

I see it as one of two options:

The first is the calibre of candidates are so good that they're allocating more time to it.

The second is that they know who they want but that coach doesn't have the right accreditation and Welnix are talking to the FFA about it.

I read yesterday that they are likely to make an announcement before new years but that Des and Greenacre are probably favorites.

Can anyone else name a team co managed professionally? If it happens, it will be a very unusual occurrence.

I don't think it will work personally, football is a game of strong personalities and having two people trying to lead a team will eventually lead to conflict IMO.

If it is D & G I think they should only get until the end of the season to prove themselves. A dual-manager situation is unusual enough but neither of them have any experience of being a manager yet even by themselves. At least giving it until the end of the season makes it easier to change things if it really doesn't work, and gives them a reason to prove it can work, rather than just writing the rest of this season off as "rebuilding".

Iceland at the Euros I believe. Although hugely different dynamic between international and club football, AND leagues compared to group-stage/knock-out tournaments.

What I worry about is if there is indecision and mixed messages in a high pressure situation with the two of them not coming to a decision.

that was never a co-managerial role, Clough was always boss

highest profile was probably Houillier and Evans at Liverpool

Lars Lagerback and Heimir Hallgrimmsson did a not bad job of it with Iceland - although that was International so different dynamics than club football.

Who says they will go with co-coaches, mayeb appoint Greeny as coach and Des as his assistant?

I think people are guessing it will be a co-manager situation because that's how they've been doing it for the interim role(s)

Greenacre doesn't have the right credentials to be head coach but Des does, so if anything it will be the other way around.

Interesting that we don't know who is ultimately in charge. In the herald it speculated that if they win this they are likely to be kept on. Doesn't make sense to me

Pretty much exactly what I think. Would be very disappointed if they got a 2 or 3 year contract, but them seeing out the rest of the season gives them a fair shot at proving themselves.

Why do you like the sound of this? Jeez, this is so discouraging.

Why do the Nix management and some of the Nix players have 0 ambition? Why do we bother to support them when they give 0 sharks about the team? We care more about the team than they do it seems. This is so incredibly frustrating. Will the Nix be just another SS Premiership (or whatever the sponsor is at the time) team 5 years from now?

was it a lack of ambition at Melbourne Victory when they appointed Kevin Muscat as Head coach when  Ange was poached, or did they just hire the best guy for the job?

Do you really think two coaches at the same time (pretty unusual; who does the dressing room trust more?) will be as good as either of the coaches you mentioned? Do you really believe Greenacre and Buckingham, based off mediocre performances against three of the lower table teams merit becoming the coaches? Some people are thinking appointing them is good "for this season"... I think there's still plenty of matches left to appoint an actual good coach rather than settling with mediocrity for the rest of the season. We need to be aiming higher than this.

I hope someone is appointed before the next match, but you know what the most likely and simultaneously most annoying outcome is? The pair of them either being either still interim or not but either way defeating the piss poor Adelaide, who have one win this season. Easy bloody win but for some reason heaps of people on this forum will be praising them once/if this happens. Getting 5 points against the lower table teams is not an achievement, sorry. Making that 8 after defeating the worst team this season really just makes our points look ok on the table when they're really not.

What we need to be asking ourselves is this: how will Greenacre and Buckingham fair against the good teams? Do people really believe we'll be getting a lot of points out of them, or are people content to settle for mediocrity... again?

Tony Adams was Harry Redknapp's assistant at Portsmouth and took over as manager after him. Got 4 wins in 22 games and got sacked.

Seems about as relevant as the Muscat example - as in, not at all relevant to the Nix right now. Ange wasn't sacked and didn't resign because his team was doing poorly, he left because he got offered a better job. Picking Muscat was sticking with continuity for the club who were at least reasonably happy with the way things were under Ange. The Nix now are a completely different kettle of fish. We seem to have systemic issues so an outsider would be better placed to shake things up.

Also, on what basis are Buckingham and Greenacre the best men for the job? They haven't exactly set the world alight in 3 relatively easy games in charge.

1. They were heading on a upward trajectory e.g. continue the good work.
2. Muscat had leadership experience from his time as a player, as I noted in a earlier post.
3. He had been part of championship winning sides.

If its gonna be Greenie & Des (I still want Ramon myself), I hope they get a long term deal. Appointing them for the rest of the season & reviewing at seasons end is treading water. We don't have time for that, we need to keep progressing towards the goal of meeting these metrics specified by the FFA. Saying these 2 guys are our coaches moving forward towards this goal is a decisive statement by WelNix.

Basically agree RR. We need to hear why Welnix believe (insert name) is the right person for the job to turn things around.
