Two weeks for Troy...

The independent Match Review Panel (MRP), chaired by Barry Such, and including Alan Davidson and Simon Micallef, met in Sydney today [12 January] to consider incidents arising from Round 19 of the Hyundai A-League.

The MRP determined the following:
  • Troy Hearfield (Wellington Phoenix) was issued with an R2 Red Card for "violent conduct" in the match against Sydney FC which Wellington Phoenix did not challenge. The MRP proposed a sanction of two (2) matches.
  • In relation to an incident from involving Troy Hearfield and Alex Brosque (Sydney FC) in the first half (29th minute) against Sydney FC on Sunday, the MRP accepted the matter escaped the attention of the referee. As the matter escaped the attention of the referee, the MRP has authority to intervene. The MRP found the player had committed the offence of "violent conduct" and proposed a sanction of two (2) matches.
  • The sanctions are to be served concurrently, meaning Hearfield will be suspended for two (2) matches and will next be available for Week 1 of the Hyundai A-League Finals Series if Wellington Phoenix qualify.

Ridiculous... the number of completely disgraceful acts this season that the same judiciary has ignored is huge.

Where is our penalty for Brosque stepping in to Hearfield at the time of the elbow ?

Where is Brosque's 2nd yellow for initiating the confrontation with Hearfield ?

Where is Cairncross's yellow for that first second tackle ?

How about Muscats suspension for the stomp on the groin of Agostino ?

Tiatto's for the two finger salute in Melbourne or anyone one of a dozen disgraceful tackles?

The judiciary is a f**king joke.  Two weeks for the head tap is reasonable (ish) but to go back and add cite him for the other when they have ignored so much this season just makes them a laughing stock.

dont quite get that - doesnt 2+2 =4?

anyway, sounds like the judiciary are as useless as Williams.
I still think that this is an over-reaction when Brosque was the one that confronted him and they were already touching heads.

He did nail him with that first elbow though..

...and that's a bad thing?

may I add Mc Flynn's 2nd handbal, albeit less evident the the first one? it's still at least a yellow card offence. And 1+1 usually means 2.

Violent Conduct is normally 2 weeks at least.

Completely agree, however, do you think the elbow suspension would have occurred if he didn't get red carded?ScoobyD2009-01-14 12:44:37

Settle down, Troy has hardly been inspirational for us. I for one will be quite happy to see a different 11 this week.

The refs in general are pretty incompetent but not biased... Ben Williams has a history of screwing the Phoenix.

Ben Williams is nothing but a cheat plain and simple.
He screws the Nix everychance he gets.
Whats most alarming is this is very obvious and has been all of last season and all of this but yet he still does it with last week being almost the worst yet.
The A league is obviously happy for this to occur as nothing is done about it.

Yes some of the other refs leave a lot to be desired BUT Williams is just biased take a look at the games he has reffed and for once the statistics, W/L cards etc bear this out.  The man is a piece of sh*t with no integrity.  It is appalling that the league let hin ref.

Knowing that the players should have given him no excuse nad tried harder and won despite Ben the cheat.

My heart sinks every time I see he is the Ref as I know this sort of crap will happen.
It is time for the club to do all they can to have him off the panel.  There is more than enough video evidence to submit to the League.
I dont think the A League care if we make the playoffs, bur Ben Williams certainly does.
He is a despicable arsehole and hopefully he gets whats comming.

Williams isn't biased, he's just utterly incompetent. He also seems to be a complete prick personality-wise, which is not helping his case.

Speak up oh wise ones....

No one... needs more Jamie Cross.

Anyone except Williams or O'Leary will do me.  O'Leary is (in my view) the best ref in the league currently but better to keep him away from the NZ side... Williams is a disgrace.
