The start was perfect. even though it wasn't always perfectly delivered, it was an accepting powerful message to inspire people to improve. Thank you

Patrick's ringing unendorsement of his qualities as a future parent... Good pod guys. At least one of your wishes about the teams in the hunt for the playoffs has come true this weekend.

Nice intro, before the usual descent into chaos.

If the debate over whether Kopa starts over Taylor before realising they've both been part of Sudan's preferred back 3 most of the season could be classed as an own goal, then you guys missed an open goal when comparing the 2010 squad to this year's.  Surely Caceres' equivalent would be one M. Nicholls?

No Roy? No problem. The Phoenix smash the Jets thanks to a David Williams hatty, can they repeat the magic against Adelaide this weekend? TeeDubs went down to Eastern Suburbs in the Handy Prem final, and the pod gets nerdy and talks about the report issued by the New League Working Group and what it means for the A-League.

Sorry about last week.  Dave got sick and the gear was at his work.  So we got a bit stuck at the last minute.  Rest assured there will be a pod this week and we will chat Rudan and the Atomic Pageantry of our last 2 permornaces

Richard Parkin joins the podcast for a second time, after a tumultuous couple of weeks featuring two losses and Mark Rudan quitting. Meanwhile, Rich imparts his wisdom on the A-League reform and the New Leagues Working Group.

Must admit I wasn't expecting a positive pod. Good pod, Richard obviously is still close to the club and I wish he'd share some of that info more often.

Future seems bright.

I listened to the whole pod. I noted the spots referred to me but I found the most significant piece was at 1:05:00 mins - right towards the end. That is the main point on an excellent pod. Thanks guys for the interviews and the pod in general.

agree with Richard that we need an NZ-centric gaffer here for the next few seasons. Use our Kiwi point of difference

you’d take Des or Greenie for starters IMO (kiwish)

Probably not qualified but Hay and Figuera with some kind off qualification work around?

Er Sean Douglas? Ricki :)

My only issue with Greenacre is that he is too nice a guy. Sometimes you need a coach to almost lose the plot and tell a few home truths but I am unsure if he could do that.

Or does he just come across like that?

I think he's been tried and failed, although the circumstances have always been difficult

Where I see part of Rudan's success is in driving a no excuses culture. Apart from that home Glory game, where he rightly got stuck into the officials - I don't remember him ever really criticising the reffing. Near the end Merrick breed a 'weak culture' constantly lamenting the referees, travel, world is against us blah blah. Achieves absolutely nothing, it's an Aussie comp, and they just don't care if the poor Nix people get upset.

As Rudan said when he first arrived, the Nix were seen as weak lot mentally across the Tasman. He has from time to time, moaned a bit about the travel/scheduling (mostly about the 'home' game at Campbeltown which was in hindsight a Welnix mistake), but mostly he's just tried to 'harden' the place up somewhat. Going back to that infamous Army exercise camp.

Any new coaching setup needs to continue that. That doesn't necessary have to be driven by the head coach (agree just can't see Greenacre in that tough guy role). Paul Gothard (GK coach) at least outwardly, seems suited to the bad cop/hair dryer treatment dressing room job!

Also I'd expect someone like Steven Taylor to set high standards, and not tolerate any slacking off. Before Dura carried a lot of that burden almost solo, not anymore.

However I think Welnix will take a lot of guidance from Rudan. So if he recommends Vidmar, then I reckon he's the favourite.

in terms of leadership and carrying on the high standards, Dura, Taylor, and I would also now say Alex Rufer would be those guys. Rufer gets up for it every game and you can see he'd just about die for the shirt. I like having players like that. Siggy-esque, you could say.

Des Buckingham fills the empty seat on the pod this week, coming on board to talk about the mens U20's and their upcoming World Cup campaign, his experiences travelling the country and spending time with all the Handy Prem teams, and to address whether or not he'll be applying for the Phoenix job. Meanwhile, a last gasp Roy goal saves the Nix and keeps the hopes of a home playoff alive.

Couldn't help but have a laugh when Buckingham was asked about the International program with the AW's and wanting to play rather than turning down invites to play.
