I think with Manny and Siggy out our lineup needs to be:
        Vuka
Disco North Dura Lochy
      Brown Lia
Ward            Marco
    Greeny Big Mac

We need to take control of Flores and Van Dyk, straight from the first tackle. If we get a point ill be more than happy. Really cant afford for Dura to get another Yellow. Thoughts?

With no Manny to watch Flores we could be in a bit of trouble. Lia will have to stick to him without any rediculous bob-sleds, not sure he has that in him.

               Vukovic

           Dura          North
    Troy                          Tony

                    Lia
             Brown
Rojas                         Ward

                  Greenacre
            D-Mac

With Lia dropping deeper to deal with Flores I'd expect Greenie and Ward to have to treack back a lot, Rojas will have to be on song to keep us going forward.

Crowther
Daniel
Toto
Pavlovic

The bench pretty much picks itself, if we take the lead I wouldn't be surprised if Ward went central and Greenie was brought off for Daniel to pack the midfield.

Dreadfully under-resourced bench.  I'd take Musa over Pavlovic or Toto any day.

yea no muscat scares me a lot against adelaide

greenie will definitely have to drop in
wouldnt be surprised to see a very defensive approach with rojas on the break as our only real goal threat?

I agree that is probably the best option, but if Ricki wants to be more defensive I wouldn't be surprised to see:

            Vuka
Disco   North Dura   Lochy

            Lia

       Brown   Ward

Daniel                 Marco
           Big Mac

with Lia taking over Manny's screening role and sitting on Flores for the game.aitkenmike2011-01-31 12:04:05

Lia as the DM scares me a little, he's tough enough to do the job and fully capable but if he makes a rash tackle we could be screwed very early.

Queenslander 3x a year.

with Lia taking over Manny's screening role and sitting on Flores for the game.
This might suit better, with Ward in the centre of the park instead of Manny it is probably more offensive than the team we've been putting out recently, and this has the advantage of not forcing the players into a new system.

i would consider keeping the 433 but Daniel starting wont be amazing

and i agree with Lf1, I would take musa over toto. Would have him and Pav on the bench. Both are signed for next season so why not atleast give Pav some chances to grow with the squad.
We got him for two more years so we gonna need him to start improving.

I agree. No point giving up on the kid just yet. I remember seeing some encouraging glimpses early on in the season and wondering why he didn't get more game time. Then he got more game time and he has been frankly woeful. However he appears to have a bit of skill and pace, so perhaps under the right guidance he can improve to be a better squad player and possible future starter. We'll see, I guess.

I have a sense of dread whenever Manny the Machine doesn't play - especially away to Adelaide..

This is one time where I wouldn't actually mind seeing Diego in the middle - still injured, though, I suppose. All that sitting down got to him.valeo2011-01-31 22:20:54

I will be in Adelaide for a wedding on Saturday. Currently devising a plan to sneak off to game. Any other Phoenix fans going to be there? Thank god I am not here for the sevens.

Ah the sevens Just cos you wear a stupid costume for 2 days of the year doesn't discount the fact that you are still boring for 363 other days of the year. Watch some real sport I say like..... Football!!

First Skipper On Hand For 100th Celebrations
Monday, 31 January 2011

Ross Aloisi

The Wellington Phoenix play their 100th Hyundai A-League game on Saturday February 5 and the clubs first skipper, Ross Aloisi, will be on hand for the milestone.

Aloisi is these days on the Fox Sports commentating team and, as luck would have it, he has been assigned sideline duties for the game against Adelaide United which will be played in his home city.

That is fantastic. It will be great to be part of it, Aloisi said when told of the milestone.

There were many sceptics when Wellington businessman Terry Serepisos took over the franchise relinquished by the underperforming New Zealand Knights on March 19, 2007, but Aloisi wasnt among them.

I knew that with Ricki Herbert as coach the Phoenix would be alright on the field, and when I got to know Terry as well I was always confident the club would be successful.

To reach 100 games is great, but Im sure there will be a lot more milestones to come.

Aloisi spent only one season with the Phoenix before injury curtailed his career, but he has nothing but good memories of his time in New Zealands capital.

It was an amazing time in my life, he said.

I love the city, the club and the people of Wellington, and really do miss the place.

I have some fantastic memories from my time with the Phoenix and one of the highlights was playing against LA Galaxy and David Beckham.

Not only did I get Becks shirt I also got a hug from the man himself!

Away trips to Adelaide are awful.  Horrible place for us at the best of times, and the current suspensions won't help one bit.

He could play as a mid also, as he has played a fair bit of footy in the midfield (not a-league of course)

He came on as a sub in the 4-0 over Newcastle for Rojas and played on the left side of midfield, I think he'll travel but doubt he'll make the bench.

Over the last few games Muscat has been there as cover. If a defender goes down I guess Lia could slot back, but then midfield ball winners would be very bare. I think Musa will be on the bench without question but I guess we shall see.

He looked pretty uncertain there, didn't really get a touch of the ball and other players didn't really seem to want to pass to him there.
Although I could see him more at home in a defensive mid role.
I remember when he played in CB he had good vision and accuracy with his long passes, and a good throw if I remember correctly?
(maybe I made the throw bit up, I'm not sure.)
I'd like to see him with more game time.

I think we will.  3 games in 8 days will mean Ricki has to use his available bench.  Would be very embarassing if we couldn't finish off NQF at the end due to tiredness.

The amount of ball Lochy gives away, would be a disaster.

The Moose should play CB and CB only (which he has yet to do for us - if Dura gets suspended we'll see it against Sydney)

Honestly think he could grow to be a very decent CB from what i've seen - doesn't look like a full back at allvaleo2011-02-01 23:47:30
