Yip, this. Next season if we have both Ifill and Rojas, it needs to be them wide no matter what. Either a 433, or 442/4222- with two defensively safe midfielders.

Have been thinking about this for a while - I do agree that it was a bit unfair to expect the guy who hadn't played in twon months to win the game for us. Ifill did look rusty and far from fit, and getting him on with half an hour to go was a bit hopeful.

But on the other side, I also understand the decision - everything was breaking down up front for us, and I guess the thinking could have been putting a guy who has a proven track-record of winning games for us was a worthy roll of the dice, and putting him in the middle meant that you could have both Ifill and Marco on at the same time, and hopefully one or both of them could make something happen. It didn't, and now we have all this angst. But I think the reality is we needed something to change up front to get something from the game, and Ricki's call simply didn't work out in the end.


EG I understand the reasons but the last 10 min would have been better. Interesting that they scored after he came on.

Oh, I agree, especially considering that when he came on, there was also a prospect of another half hour of extra time which I think may well have killed Ifill if he had to play them.

Think the earliness (is this an actual word?) of the substitution is more a reflection of Ricki's desperation to get more threatening presence up front. Like I said, maybe not the best call, but an understandable one.

I would've taken off Hearfield for Ifill and McAllister for Greenacre - Ifill on one side, Rojas on the other, Greenacre up top.
 
Never mind though.
 
Striker required next season surely though. McAllister is ok as back up and Greenacre and Ifill aren't getting any younger so we definitely could do with someone up there.

The good news (for me) is the Thai season just started, and this year (for now) there won't be an offseason. The schedule was released in Jan, and there have been at least 3 rewrites since then. They decided to get rid of weekday fixtures, (having expanded the league), and then to take a break for the SEA Games, meaning the season wouldn't finish until Jan. Apparently someone finally realised yesterday that AFC particpants need to be confirmed earlier, and they're going back to the drawing board.
 
The off-field stuff here lol-tastic, and the footy's not bad either.

The ongoing saga of our away form. Probably highlights that if we are to ever win the Title, it will be necessary to finish regular season in first or second place, and have a chance of direct entry into finals or playing prelim final at home.

Friday was a great effort but despit lots of possession, pressure and shots balls into area etc, we did not create many clear cut chances imo
