I guess it was the only way they could break our line of defense.

Just shows what 3 games in a week does to players. And before anyone says they are professionals and in the UK they play 3 times a week no problems. In the UK they don't fly for 4+ hours and play a game in the tropics and then fly back. It was obvious the whole team was flat.

I reckon the sending off was a key part of the game....we were starting to flag and the jets were picking up the pace. They were gone after that.

Young Rojas showed why he needs another season in the A-League. He can expect to get double marked and he will have learnt from this experiance. Still even though he had an off night he still got an excellent assist and should have had two if Dmac had not missed a sitter.

I agree with some of your comments, but where did we fly(apart from Perth and Townsville)in the last week for 4hrs plus and play in the tropics?
Flew to Queensland to play the Roar....Queensland = palmtrees + heat + humidity + crocodiles + mosquitoes + coconuts = tropics
No Crocs on the Gold Coast either [unless they swam down in the floods or escaped frrom Currumbin Wildlife Park] hang on, no crocodiles of the reptile variety........

While I'm happy we won that was the most rubbish performance I've seen in a long time.

Yeah, there was confusion about Manny's tally, but it's definitely 8, so he's out for 2 games too.

You never know what can happen. Especially against Sydney and we need to get at least a draw from them 2 away games

Sydney away is going to be very tough. All the talk I've seen about getting something from that away match in particular seems to be based on the pre-New Year Sydney. They are unbeaten in 5 in matches that included Gold Coast, Melbourne Victory and Central Coast. If you look at a form table for the last 5 games, Sydney are top.

Their final games are against the current 6th, 7th and 8th place holders in the table. Sydney are a bigger threat to our playoff hopes than the Heart or Jets.

Average performance today but it was a tight game and Newcastle didn't give much room away, other than at the goal, which was genuinely a good goal.

Happy with the 3 points, although lost my bets so never listening to Grandadi again

Annoying to hear Sigmund and Muscat out for the next game though...

More worried about them missing the more important match against Sydney. Adelaide away is a match we've never won, only avoided defeat in once and have an aggregate score of 3-17.

No Siggy or Manny for the six pointer in Sydney =

This has probably been asked, but with the Asian Cup ending can we expect North back to cover Sigmund?

Also, it seems as though Ricki generally uses Manny as defensive cover and has a dedicated attacking bench, could be the return of Musa?

Jade North will be back so Siggy's loss wont be too bad, Manny might be a different story though...

You have a very short memory

Ricki tried to shake Branko's hand and he refused - then they got in a huge argument haha. The Culina's and the Griffiths...imagine if they were all in the same room together.valeo2011-01-31 00:12:47

On balance 3 points is worth the number of yellow cards although some of the tackles were looking rather reddish.

Good to see a decent crowd although what it might have been without the $5 tickets might have been embarrassing.

One more home game to go. Let's hope the other teams' results favour us and then we carve up NQF on 13 Feb.

Last season we were in Aisle 23 and pretty much stayed there all the time. This season for one reason or another we've moved around a bit from our Aisle 24 seats.

Aisle 24 is MUCH quieter than 23 so may drift over that way next season. 19 wasn't too bad, but the end on view is a bit suckey if you are close to the ground.

Considering the constant tackles from behind and shirt pulling that the jets dished up,they were very soft cards given to us.

Still wondering what Griffiths said!

So Hearfield's was soft after sicissoring Brockie at the half? The fact that both Lia and Sigmund were warning in the 1st half for chopping players from behind (Sigmund on Brockie) and then continued with it is soft? Dura smashing that guy from behind? Manny leg sweeping the achillies from behind?

Guys the yellows were from indiscipline and not learning early on. All our cards came from smashing players from behind and in two cases after being warned previously. I put this on Durante for failing to tell his team 'hey guys we've been warned, we need to settle' and general discipline during the game. We lead the yellow card count and based on what happened tonight this is not a real surprise with the manner in which we play

Why were the fever so quiet yesterday?

and why don't the Nix play it on the deck when its a force 9 gale in Wellington??

I can't believe there is angst that we didn't win well enough against one of the teams we're fighting with for 6th. After 3 games in 7 days I thought we did amazingly well to grind out a win. We hustled them well in the midfield and pretty much just gave Brockie those two chances (and the one off the post).

1-0 was all that was needed under the circumstances and it was a beauty of a goal. Not having Manny for the next two games is a bit of a worry, he was the best on the park tonight.

Oh and Branko is a douche, why the he'll did he refuse to shake Ricki's hand?

Can't say I blame you, although I got the result right Very strange, torrid game. Terrific goal, best we've scored this season by a mile. There was also an odd feel about the YF zone- quite a lot of nastiness and aggression between our fans. What the hell was that about? We will surely miss Manny a lot, but we've got other options. I reckon we will make the finals, but it won't be easy.....

Where we were had loads of newbies. They weren't too bad, but were obviously getting frustrated at having their view blocked by people standing. They stayed seated throughout, somewhat inconspicuously when all around them were standing.

I heard a conversation between a youngish lad and an older bloke. The young lad had taken the seat of the older guy (season ticket holder) and was asked to move, the youngster threatened to toss him down the aisles. Not nice

Agreed, the only complaint I really had with the ref was that he didn't book Griffiths for his challenge from behind on Lochhead that never even got near the ball - attackers always get away with sh*t that gets defenders booked! (And that he missed Manny's handball that led to Griffiths giving him the red card serve.)

yea that free kick we got on the edge of the box was a dirty big hack, easily a yellow, shocked to see no cards from the ref there
apart from that i thought the ref was spot on? Obviously assuming whatever griffiths said was really bad...

Not the best performance I've seen by the Phoenix but a great time was had by us visitors from Whanganui, sitting in aisle 30. Geez, Wellington can blow, eh? Thought the Fever were a bit quiet although I loved the send-off given to Griffiths. Any thoughts on man of the match? We all thought Vukovic could be a contender, that man had a damn steady pair of gloves yesterday. Mannie had an excellent game too.

Funny feeling that game.OK , the game itself didn't live up to much but we found it very hard to get into it.We've seen some dire games there before and really enjoyed ourselves. Not so much yesterday. We both felt quite disconnected frem the whole thing- I'd only had one beer too.

One question- at times , it seemed as if Vukovic was being boo'd.My little boy asked why?I heard the chants  as well and couldn't quite believe it. Did we mis-hear or have we missed something?

Yeah did seem that some who had brought $5 tickets thought it gave them the right to sit any where.Told some that the seats they were in were season ticket holders, they didnt seem to care.then got PO when said season ticket holders turned up and asked them to move.

Also dosnt seem to help when some season ticket holders think that gives them the right to seat their non season ticket holding mates in the wrong place.

"The coaches appeared to exchange heated words after full-time. Herbert did not want to comment on the pleasantries but Culina said: ''There was nothing much in it, except to say I was a bit disappointed with the result and the coach on the opposing side was very much delighted with the result - I think you can read in between the lines.'' - Yeah you're a cock

This. Half the time I had no idea what the whistle had been blown for, the rest of the time I didn't know why it wasn't being blown.

Second game in two weeks I've driven eight hours from Auckland to come to, again it was well worth it! Great crowd, great result - hope to be back down in two weeks!

I know its not very original but how about using 'Ricki Herbert' instead of 'Arthur Brownlow'.I checked out the link from kiwihatter,(cheers) and that would be nuts at the RoF
