You're right. He was atrocious last week. And all the goals he has cost us this season!

How often has the Phoenix won 2 on-the-trot away from home?

He was one of our best against Adelaide.

Would like to see Rojas come off and Clapham or Lovemore get a bit of a run and Marco a bit of a rest valeo2011-02-08 20:43:45

Atrocious my ass! He was fine, tactically kept to the plan and even played some good balls in. Defensively far more sound.

Botafogo - Rio de Janeiro and Wellington Phoenix, my two teams til death do us part.

This. He was stable at the end when we needed to hold the ball. Didn't look like scoring really but still put in what was required. Still, we'll see which Daniel shows up eh

Sarcasm fail.

Daniel has copped WAY more flack this year than he has deserved. He was bad in the game he started, but most of the time he has come off the bench he has added something. In most games he has made at least one defense splitting pass. aitkenmike2011-02-08 22:06:09

I thought players in the domestic league couldn't go directly into the Phoenix.  Have I got  this wrong or has this ruling changed?

They can go in.  It's coming back again that is the challenge.  Four week standdown for Professional back to Amateur football.

yeah so i wonder if they have thought about this? 1 month standdown is interesting. Wonder if it'll apply if they dont play?

Imray and Spoonley both injury covered early last season and were carefully released to allow four week stand-downs before O-League and ASB Premiership obligations.  Neither got on the pitch.

I suspect they will stay with the Phoenix until the season is done anyway.

I suspect this is what they cleared with NZFA yesterday. I highly doubt this will be an issue.

"They've only come in for the one game," Herbert said. "I can't see them carrying on, but it's a fantastic opportunity. They're a couple of good Kiwi boys and now they get a chance."

Is Clapham even classed as an amatuer?

Permalink Permalink
about 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
It's about the competition definition, not the individual definition and officially the ASB Premiership is/was amateur.  I will qualify that this could have changed but seeing how antsy NZ Football were about making sure no one was officially paid this season that seems unlikely.

This is directly from the NZFC regulations. Although it doesn't explicitly state injury replacements to the NZ based a-league team are allowed to play immediately upon return, just the fact that it mentions them as an exception, and you are not allowed to register someone else, indicates there is provision for this. I don't have time to scour the laws looking for it but I'm telling you, these guys will be allowed play for their NZ teams straight away.

Players Selected by Professional Clubs

8.15 Notwithstanding anything to the contrary under 8, a franchise club may replace Franchise Club Players at any time on account of a player being selected by the New Zealand based A League franchise (other than as an injury replacement as contemplated under 8.17(i)) or another professional football club, so that that player is no longer available to play for the franchise club during the relevant NZFC season and whose transfer and registration shall be dealt with under NZF Regulation 5 - Status of Players.

this may be a stupid suggestion but why cant they play as amatuers in a proffessional league ??? Nobody says they have to be paid to play, its just an opportunity and forced by circumstances !!!!!!

Its done in golf ?????

Possibly done in the lower divisions in England, wouldnt be many but !!!!!

That's not what that quote says rj.  What that says is that a Franchise can replace a player called up to the Phoenix.

Was that the section you meant to quote?

It says "other than an injury replacement". Meaning you can register a different player but not for players called up as injury replacements.

What does 8.17(i) say?

You might need more information for context, I find it pretty badly written, here's a link to the whole thing

and also more on status of players

New Zealand International Loan Players

8.17 Notwithstanding anything to the contrary under 8, a franchise club may name in its twenty four (24) players under 8.1 a player whose registration shall remain held by a FIFA authorised entity offshore, who may loan that player to the relevant franchise club for any agreed number of weeks during the current NZFC season without that player‟s registration having to be held by or as directed by NZF, provided that that player is a current New Zealand international player "All Whites". For the purpose of this regulation, a current All White is defined as a player who has played for the All Whites during the three years immediately prior to the commencement of the current NZFC season.

There isn't a rule 8.17(i) as I can see??

8.17 is about NZ International Loan Players - that is, All Whites playing overseas being loaned to an NZFC franchise.

Think as someone else has stated, Clapham and Lovemore won't be clased as Professionals as the nix may not be paying them, so the stand down period doesn't apply?
