Might be a good idea for a thread on VAR..
To compare Phoenix VAR decisions for the remainder of the season to other decisions in the league/somewhere else. Or just any VAR comments in general

So harsh that Tim Paynes red card has been upgraded to 2 games “serious foul play”. Just a normal red to me….

If you see this challenge in the prem today VAR looked at it, no red. This is way worse than Paynes??

Same reason a Phoenix midfielder gets a yellow for simulation in midfield?

Jay o Shea sent off for an identical challenge(Newcastle vs Roar tonight) to Paynes the other night. Can’t believe I’ve forgotten his name, but Australian commentator not happy with the decision.

Brisbane fans are livid on social media

Games gone if that's a red.

I mean you see at least a couple of similar challenges pretty much every match, especially in those ground duel situations.

I'd be pissed if I was a Roar fan, because it's basically buggered them. In saying that though, I think earlier in the season O'Shea would've stayed on a yellow for that, so maybe there is a crackdown on that type of play across the league?

Interesting to see if the rulings are going to be consistently applied across the league if indeed we are entering into the crackdown era of this season too.

That challenge looks same or slightly worse than Payne’s. In current terms you know it’s going to be a red.
I agree, neither Paynes or O sheas challenges were serious foul play to me, and contact was relatively low as both about half of their foot made contact above the ankle.
The RED card should only be used if the tackle has studs that make contact clearly above the ankle. Not for ground challenges that lift their studs at the end, unless they go flying higher above ankle contact.

In current rulings though, both challenges red card is the ‘correct’ decision.
Kind of stupid though for **Phil Moss to call it as a bad decision, we know it’s gonna be a red when it goes to VAR.
