Shame on everyone who said George cant trap a ball. Some class touches. I think he really looks promising .....but the boy needs to learn some english...he could hardly communicate.

ya english is a must..

they should get him English night classes along with clebs

Clebs English is fine, it's his reading of the game that is a problem!!

Some people wanted to grade George on his training performances - others (I'm looking at you Lunatic) just appeared to want to knife him in the back before he'd even kicked a ball in anger.  I've been saying for a few weeks now - get George on the field in a match and he'll wake up and show you some class.  Great to see him on the pitch - the lad looked so happy, it must have been hell for him not being involved.  Hopefully Ricki has seen what he can do now and will have a little more faith in him.

All good.

Thought George deserved a lot of the credit for our equaliser, he looked like he wanted to make things happen when he came on, quite a different style to Daniel and Felipe though - which probably widens our options.

As I've said before - very direct, wants to be involved with goals...  Loved his celebrations after the goal - he knew he took the keeper out of the game.  Class!

About atmosphere, you always expect chanting and passion from aisle 21, and we heard that tonight. Great work fellas. But at the 1/2 way line, where I am, it was the best it's ever been tonight. People are really picking up on the chanting. I know I could hardly speak by the end and developed a nasty headache from screaming. ;)

Satisfied with the draw.

Some advise from a Mariners fan still smarting after we lost out on Elrich. But in the spirit of football getting stronger sign Felipe for as long as you can.

Fred at Victory was magic  Felipe is better, try not to loose him to another league. The A-League needs players like Felipe, he will pull crowds all over OZ.

Phoenix are my second team but with Elrich along side  Felipe, you guys have got an awesome midfield and if they stay fit should take you close to  grand final where the Mariners will beat you.

Everyone start kissing Lunatic's backside - need to keep him sweet if you want to keep Felipe.

Thought we were VERY lucky to get away with a draw as Adelaide dominated the game. We didn't play well at all. Smeltz goal was lucky but i'll take it. If their keeper didn't suck so much we would've lost 2-0. Though i'll reserve judgement till i've seen the replay - I was pissed off most of the game however.

im bloody annoyed..this was meant to be a triumphant welcome home and it turned out to be a very lucky draw.

adelaide absolutely cut us up at times. they had 24 shots !! in our house !

other incoherent thoughts:

We still cant keep the ball. Ross spent too much time running around like a mad man.

The communication between the rest of the team seem to go haywire under the pressure of chasing the game yet again.

The referee was appalling. His decisions contributed to the wealth of possesion adelaide had.

Adelaide are a good team and sure of themselves in a way we arent yet. Their defence was spot on most of the game (and easily dealt with SS). Well apart from their keeper who probably has concentration issues given they had so much ball.

Moss on the other hand had to be on the whole time. He is very well balanced at shot time and almost always make the right decisions. He is quite good.

The fans again were superb. Second halfs where the Nix are attacking the Fever end make for a great atmosphere. The place does go mental when we score.

But back to moaning - Rick still has a lot of work to do with this lot. Having the seen everyone else play now im fairly sure we wont finish last but we're far from a top four side right now.

Guys on the Melbourne forums reckon we're the consistently loudest crowd in the league this season - and remarked that it seems that the whole ground get involved  - not just the hard core supporters bay.

I have to admit - one or twice during the -'clap clap, clap clap clap, clap clap clap, PHOENIX' chants I take a moment to look round the stadium -and it's looks pretty kick arse to see everyone joining in

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

What was the crowd last night said 11,000 on the telly but looked more?

I agree with Teza and the colonel req, the referee was apalling, and the linesman closest to aisle 26 was total goose too. The Adelaide guys were getting away with handballs   holding and pushing our guys around at will!  Having said that, I don't think we played all that well either.  We haven't scored a goal at the Ngauranga end of Westpac yet but Felipe sure went close in the first half.  Mossy was great.  I'm very impressed with his positioning.  he is our rock at the back along with Dodd and O'dor. Our pint sized Felipe though was the man of the match for me followed very closely by Moss.  I love the atmosphere in the stadium! YF set the benchmark and the crowds are starting to really join in now.  Three very good home crowds so far.  When we score everything goes mental even the old grey haired pensioner sitting next to me in Aisle 26 was off his feet roaring when we scored! Brilliant!  Bring on Perth Glory!!!!

Casio proved to be a handful and Diego seemed to panic our defense ,need to be a bit more structured and composed at the back, some of the clearances were a joke when our players clearly had more time to deliver the ball in a more constructive manner rather than a sunday league hoof up the park and  generally down the gullet of one of their midfielders !  Kiwi Jambo2007-09-23 08:54:38

Is it just me being one-eyed or have we had terrible match officials at every home game so far?

What was all the rubbish about Dodd having to change his shirt and not being allowed back on the pitch after he had been bandaged up...seemed to go on way too long...

Surely the person with the greatest impact on FIFA's Fair Play initiative is the ref and if they aren't up to scratch you just get more cheating Aussies...

Evidently he had blood on his shirt in that case.

Although - I couldn't understand how that ended up a fk to Adelaide - Dodd gets cleared from behind - the big fella lands on top of him and it's a AUFC FK! - wtf!

...and while we had ten they scored.  That was one of a long list of ridiculous calls and that one almost cost us any points.

was quite surprised to see the ref not yellow anyone. One that sticks out was felipe getting brought down after he got round someone right by the byline down ngauranga end of ground.

An attacking opportunity ended by a foul that was a fairly blatant takedown?? Cant get any more yellow than that.

Never have I witnessed such blatant bias in officials at a FOOTBALL game. The irony being that before the game started, both skippers took an oath of allegiance to fair play. What a farce, within 1 minute Daniel was taken out by the worst tackle [apart from Rattin -Argentina 66 world cup] ever perpetrated on a sports field. It could have maimed the bloke for life, only for the ref, who was within yards of the offence, not only ignoring the assault, but saying nothing to either skipper.

There were a huge number of kids at the game last night - what does this sort of action convey to them.

Absolutely disgraceful, as for 95 minutes the beautiful game was ruined by inefficient [supposedly "professional" officials] in a very professional sport, and for me makes me realise that we have a very long way to go if FOOTBALL is to be properly represented. The Phoenix players to their credit did NOT retaliate

At least thanks to the TV, other sports lovers witnessed such ineptitude or should that be bias!!

We still seem to lack confidence in front of goal, however I am sure that this will improve with more shots on goal outside the box.

Does anyone check on the attendance stats, as it seems that this is NOT a correct reflection, given that the stadium look almost half full last night - is someone working a tax fiddle!!

For the 2nd goal if Aloisi had held his ground instead of doing a diving header (?) could he have stopped it?

Was a definite yellow...Felipe was on his way...I think Aloisi got a yellow late on...probably thought he'd get away with giving someone a kick as the ref seemed visually impaired...

The crowd dounded superb on the livestream and I believe helped the Pheonix get over the line.  Welly is doing NZ football proud in a way Auckland never really managed, full credit to you.

Bruce Djite is starting to mature into a very dangerous striker and each game he seems to be getting more sure of himself.  It sounded a great goal from him last night and I'm sure more are to come.  Adelaide is getting a lot from the young brigade which is encouraging, especially given that the older players are getting injured one by one.

Felipe is currently looking the recruit of the season for the A-League, certainly the Reds were at odds and ends trying to deal with him.

My congratulations once again to Welly and I hope you keep up the attendance at the Cake Tin as if you do 2008/09 will see sponsors falling overthemselves to get onto the black and yellow shirt.
