Yeah, good point about Djite. We have to give him credit for that goal even though technically it was a defensive lapse. You need a lot of strength and good balance to hold off a close-marking defender inside the 6 yard box, then turn and put the ball in.

Time for Paston to get a start.

I've just read previous post saying " Moss is our rock" and " He is very well balanced at shot time and almost always make the right decisions. He is quite good"

He's let in more goals than any keeper in the league!

dude.. wtf r u watching the games seriously...... the fact that more goals have gone in than any other in the league is not because of moss... Moss has done extremely well to only have that many goals go in. This team is still young, which means they are prone to more defensive issues with knowing each others game and communicating well with one another, moss is not to blame for the goal count against him. Last week was the perfect example with lochhead's missed clearance leaving the striker in a position that he is expected to score in every time. against last night the second goal was not his fault, merely that there striker is extremely good and fought off o'dor to win the space he had

And the first goal was clearly his fault

Think Nightz is stirring but he's got a point. Moss doesn't look as comfortable in the air as I hoped he would. I hate seeing keepers flapping at high balls - gives me the willies. In all other areas he looks good and can't be held responsible for bad defence.

As next week looks like there is going to be alot more players having their first team debut I would say Paston has a fair chance of starting.

Casio proved to be a handful and Diego seemed to panic our defense ,need to be a bit more structured and composed at the back, some of the clearances were a joke when our players clearly had more time to deliver the ball in a more constructive manner rather than a sunday league hoof up the park and  generally down the gullet of one of their midfielders !

Oi! You haven't seen the Wellington Sunday League then! We don't encourage hoofing!

No offense intended ,mind you im sure the Phoenix coach dosent  encourage it either but there was a lot of panic kicking by the defense last night!

The answer to life's problems are rarely found at the bottom of a beer glass - but it's always worth a look.

why is it time for paston to get a start ?

the standard brainless anwser : moss has let in more goals than anyone else. every single one his own fault obviously.

nothing to do with this team being new?
or that the midfield cant keep the ball ?
or that his defenders have been poor positionally ?

nope... all moss's fault.

genius.

To be honest I thought that it was the worst performance of any ref so far. The league is improving the football but the standard of refereing is third rate.

You must have missed Friday nights game then. He (Breeze) was alot bloody worse than the Phoenix one (Williams)

What was all the rubbish about Dodd having to change his shirt and not being allowed back on the pitch after he had been bandaged up...seemed to go on way too long...

Its in the rules. Players are not allowed to have blood on them or their outfit. Its a health issue. I'm sure you can appreciate the connection between sport, blood, 3rd world countries where football is played where blood type diseases are prevalent....

Saturday night was my first time at the Stadium to see the Phoenix.....I thought it was absolutely BRILLANT. The best atmosphere I have ever experianced at a sports event in New Zealand. You Yellow Fever guys were amazing. The way the chants were picked up by the rest of the crowd was fabulous.

As for the football, very exciting....the Phoenix will be a great team one day. At the moment they seem to rely on the individual brilliance of guys like Felipe(how will we stop him heading to a major league) The Adelaide midfield completely dominated and we lived off scraps....I'm not surprised by the 85% possession stat they had.

Still if we can come away with a point when under the cosh like that says heaps for the teams guts and character. Its still early days for the Phoenix but the thing I really like is their never say die attitude. Its going to be a hell of a ride this season....but I wouldn't miss it for the world. Monday morning I'm off to buy my Season Ticket!!!!!

That stat seems wrong to me, I think it was wrongly reported. The official A-League website has our posession at 49% which sounds much more accurate.

I think Moss has done very well and deserves to hold his spot.

Of course mate, that's a ridiculous number. I can't believe that any team would have that amount of possession in a game.
For example, Croatia was playing Andorra in EURO 2008 qualifying a few days back and had 74% possession. And Andorra's gameplan consists of putting 11 men into their own penalty box and try to keep the score down and crossing the halfway line maybe twice in the whole game. For the record, Croatia won 6-0.
So if Andorra got 26% possession in a game they lost so heavily employing the tactics they did, it's clearly ludicrous to believe Phoenix only had 15% possession last night.

Based on history Paston is better and as people have said when you go for a ball in the air you have to get it.
