yea, they should make an exception for a match to be at the Basin Reserve I reckon, with 2:30 being a good kick off time. Even though insufficient lighting being a reason for not being allowed to host a club. I reckon a one off match should be alright. The seating is another factor, so who knows if that can ever get a pass mark for a match.

This. The basin has been suggested many times before, and every time, the answer is NO, for many reasons, and there's no way there can be any 'exceptions'.

Maybe New Plymouth, end of a dance festival and a russian ballet that night so no event conflict.

you wont get a crowd! they havnt managed to when the nz franchises went there and the local team doesnt get a crowd. youd be better to go to hamilton or somewhere down south

In all fairness, Hamilton got a poor crowd when the Kingz player there (1,500 IIRC?) and a fantastic crowd when the Phoenix went there (9,000). New Plymouth may be worth another shot at some point.

(I'd still vote for Hamilton, however)

Just accept the fact that Auckland is by far the best and only reasonable option. That way I can get to more than 1 game this season (when I'm down for Christmas)

Its no longer a problem.

Some YF faithful would encounter Smiggle Overload if we went to Auckland.

Napier a far safer proposition!

Make that Eden Park ....

The Wellington Phoenix will bring A-League soccer back to Auckland this season after announcing a home fixture at Eden Park this season.

Phoenix CEO Nathan Greenham announced today that the side will play against Adelaide United on Saturday November 19 at the ground that will host the Rugby World Cup final four weeks earlier.

The New Zealand Knights, an Auckland-based franchise, played in the opening two seasons of the A-League.

The Phoenix will also play a match in Dunedin, taking on the Brisbane Roar at Forsyth Barr Stadium on December 14.

Get in. Loving it. I hope to see as many YFites get on a plane up here for this one. We'll need at least 20k to be heard in there. There is a also train station near by unlike NHS and Mt Smart so transport is great.

Its no longer a problem.

Not happy that Auckland jumped the queue ahead of Hamilton, but no sense kvetching about that any further, rather gonna focus on how fantastic this is for Auckland's football supporters. I'll be planning on heading up and enjoying what could be a fantastic night alongside some of the many brilliant Auckland Feverites I've become acquainted with. Pretty sure I owe Footpaul a cider or thirty two, could be a bloody good trip!

Also looking forward to seeing Auckland City's "Down With Australian Football" Knitting Circle come out in force to cheer on their beloved Adelaide United.

Looking forward to having you all up here in sunny Auckland! Hopefully we get a good crowd, teach a few Aucklanders how we do it down in the Capital and get the three points the Nix have become accustomed to with these home away from home games. Get in!

Going up to this one, overnight stay. Still considering going down to Dunedin, but probably not since I went down for the pre-season match, also not being an official home match I think as well as a midweek game, I don't think it will be as good as the pre-season match.
