THE prediction is in temporary suspension.
My powers have been weakened lately, and I think I have worked out why..............I predicted after the Perth Test (on this very forum) that England would retain the Ashes. I was right of course. Unfortunately the prediction mojo tank took a big hit from that so nothing from me for this game (publicly of course, but I will still inflict myself on friends and family).
On another note......the Barmy Army in Australia were worth two wickets. If anybody ever doubts the importance of singing your songs for your team (and not the brainless, teamless vuvuzela droning FFS) just watch the Ashes series again. The Barmy Army were 100% and loud behind England, winning or losing. We are the best in the League for this. The Aussie fans just sat and gaped at them like stranded fish throughout, except for the occasional crappy "Ozzie Ozzie Ozzie Oy Oy Oy" (they still haven't worked out that this is actually an adaptation of an English chant from years ago, bless 'em).
So the messages for us are clear;
1) Turn Up,
2)Sing. Loudly.
3) Never despair.
Remember, we are the Phoenix. We can beat anyone

Wellington Phoenix v Melbourne Victory
Wednesday 5 January 2011 7:30PM
Two rivals with nothing to choose between them lock horns. Its a massive midweek match-up as the race for Grand Finals spots heats up!
When the Hyundai A-League 2010/11 season draws to a close after 30 games, two teams that will hope to be looking towards the Grand Finals are Wellington Phoenix and Melbourne Victory.
However, with more clubs than ever vying for a place in the top six, this season its going to be tougher than ever to secure one of those sought after spots. Therefore, it could end up being games like Wednesdays that decides who gets a golden ticket and who misses out completely.
Every point counts and a tussle with a side that could potentially steal your Finals slot takes on the importance of a cup final. After all, not only does it put points on the board, but it takes vital points away from rivals too.
Phoenix, therefore, are set to play plenty of cup finals between now and game 30, starting at the Westpac on Wednesday as Melbourne Victory make up a tough opponent. As the two sides jostle for position in the run-in, there is little to choose between them.
Both games so far in the Hyundai A-League 2010/11 season have ended all-square. The first midweek encounter of the season ended with a goalless draw. Since then, the two teams matches have resulted in well over 100 goals - something which was illustrated when the sides next met.
Then, Victory's Archie Thompson became the first player to notch 50 Hyundai A-League goals in a brilliant 2-2 draw. After Phoenix took the lead, Thompson and fellow goal-machine Robbie Kruse turned things around, only for Phoenix to steal a point five minutes from time through Paul Ifills finish.
While The Fever Zone wont have Ifill to rely on for the visit of Victory, they will still go into the game in the knowledge that their team are simply unbelievable at home. It doesnt matter who visits, at Westpac, Wellington are confident of sending any opponent packing with nothing to show for the visit other than a match day programme.
Like their hosts, Ernie Merricks side were far from great on the road in the second half of 2010, so the clever money would certainly be on Phoenix to remain unbeaten against Victory in the Hyundai A-League 2010/11 season.
Can Victory cause a shock by coming away with three important points, or will Westpac remain the fortress that it has been for so long? Get your tickets today and find out. If 2010 is any indicator, then 2011 is going to be a magnificent year for football in the Hyundai A-League. Lets start the year as we mean to go on, with a big crowd making heaps of noise! Warm your lungs up, the season is really cooking now!

Hey dude, getting really worried about the lack of hype from the Nix camp. No publicity stunts or anything going on. They arent even putting any stuff up on their site, unlike the start of the season when they were in everyones face. Am worried that they wont be able to pull a big crowd for one of the most important games of the season.
Any idea whats happening?

now that you mention that, I remember the start of the season we heard very little and people were saying how its still rugby season or whatever so why focus on attracting audiences that were split and why not wait.
But we really havnt seen enough I don't think. I wish we could attract more attention but its not easy

It aint easy, but it's god danmed neccersary! I dont understand why they dont use the fever to help with marketing?!? I mean, danm im bringing 8 or so mates to the game on weds but thats cos im a die hard and not through any help of the clubs!
Im always happy to support the club in anyway that I can and im sure others are the same. So if the club has no money to do their own promotion, why dont they make use of some of us!?!? Danm, you could do some mean guerilla marketing!

Aint a kid or student anymore so that ain't gonna help me hahaha! And considering its holidays and no ones in town, I dont think it will help them though. Unless they have been targeting youth football teams which would be smart.

Except the majority of youth football teams disbanded monthas ago, and this is an initiative they have used every season for this match.

Not sure about this one, you'll probably have to buy an adult ticket. Go into the Nix store on hunter street, sure they will know.

A win here and we have a chance of making the top 6, a loss and it'll be 7th or 8th. After this game things only get harder with CCM and the Roar away. In all honesty, though, 6th isn't good enough. It will be an away game vs the 3rd place team and we have no hope of winning it so 4th should be the aim even though it is thoroughly unrealistic.

But if it's unrealistic why go for it? Isn't that the same as "banging your head against a wall?"
